Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any helpful information about Aviano's Air force base or Mildenhall. My wife and I have been given those two options for an overseas assignment and are trying to weigh the differences. Any help is appreciated!

What's your job? If you aren't flight line then either base is nice. Aviano would probably be better since it's right in the middle of everything, probably more established and easier to travel to all of Europe.

Yeah I am a desk jockey basically, but I have heard the big downfall about Aviano is the Cost of Living..

^this. Unless you are a maintainer or aerial port, aviano is the way to go. Centrally located to everything you could want to do. England sucks in general haha unless you love rain and love only getting British tv and like 5 AFN channels.

Well I definitely have words, but that's the first time they've been called wise haha. Good luck with the PCS.

I just had a friend PCS from there...as active duty I heard it wasn't bad. However from the spouses view she hated it. She had friends there and kept busy, but overall didn't like it. I know the travel is great in Europe. Look up Ryan Air....they have dirt cheap flights going to all over Europe ....cheap as in $20 cheap.

Definitely will look into that, fortunately for me both my spouse and I are active duty so we should be okay...
I wouldn't pick either, I was at both location. Your best bet is Ramstein. There is lots of desk jocks there. Lol!!! Was there for 7 years loved it. Good location and easy to get around and tons of things to do.

Ramstein isn't an option for us right now.. my wife doesn't have any job openings there. What's so bad with Aviano?

If you are a desk jockey I don't see eithet base being bad. England has a lot of rain etc. Italy has a lot of locals that do not like military. Flight line wise I wouldnt want to be at either of those two bases lol.

It's ok if you speak Italian, other then that the base is tiny. If you need any thing you might have to order it online or go to ramstein to get what you want.

Hit up Aviano Air Base. You'll love it out there. Italy is a Great country to live in. Plus when you have a 4 day, you can take off to another country in Europe. Travel my friend, travel
