I am currently a 2T2 (Air Transportation), but I am seriously contemplating switching to a 2A7 (Non-Destructive Inspection).
If anyone has any insight into the AF or civilian equivalent of this job, I would love to hear it.

Calibration and PMEL shit is huge on the outside if you can set yourself up properly by getting your 5 and 7 level shit. Its a boring job I am sure but coming from 2T2 it would be a nice change of pace.

I've been in the NDI business for about 20 years. Eddy current, FPI, and mag. Have some UT background. But it's not my primary discipline. I like it.

Thanks guys, how does it pay on the civi side rhino? Also I have heard a huge hub for NDI is out near where I live in plum, pa. Any word on if that is true?

Well, for a classification for 3705, I'm a WG-10-5. If I would ever go into X-Ray I could move to WG-11. But, I have no desire to get beat up working in FPI anymore. I've had back and shoulder surgery for both and I'm done getting hurt!!

Well, for a classification for 3705, I'm a WG-10-5. If I would ever go into X-Ray I could move to WG-11. But, I have no desire to get beat up working in FPI anymore. I've had back and shoulder surgery for both and I'm done getting hurt!!

Yeah, when our X-Ray guys have no work, they have to load for FPI. Jet engine parts get heavy like a motherbitch. So, I have chosen to not put myself out in that!!!! But, there's good work out there.

Ive had some over the shoulder training from my Powertrain guys.. ive done quite a bit of NDI work. Mainly black light and eddy and its part of getting your A&P license(which i have) from the FAA...

NDI + Theme Parks = Big Money!!.. i have a friend 20 years Prop and Rotor(powertrain)exp .. got out and retired in FL .. works at Disney make big bucks!!

Private sector work can be lucrative as hell. I know a handful of guys who have retired from federal service that supplement their retirement with one-off gigs all over the U.S.
