View Full Version : Fact checking and troubleshooting Iraqi invasion questions...

This may or may not apply to all, but to the few thousand who breached Iraqs border
19 Mar 03 and have listened to BS up to the ears about who was where and when, I've found the solution...Upon listening to a fake ass sounding Marine talk about the invasion, I began to prod him with questions about the time frame and locations, all to which he answered with shaky and discombobulated "facts". I didn't give in to the urge to bust him out in the bar, then bust his ass, but was I pissed...

So, my wife, Sara, and I set out to find a factual timeline and order of battle for the initial push into Iraq. After combing websites, wiki, my 214, I came across a website,

www.GlobalSecurity.com

Dude, the website gives you a free trial to read 7 articles and if you spend the time to read a bit or ALL of an article (mini novel 6 chapters and a picture chapter) titled

"ON POINT"

It's the most accurate, factual, and detailed account of the war's strategy, logistics, and even some recently declassified facts I know any military person would LOVE to read. It is so detailed and accurate, the US ARMY history books carry the article as true account. It's quite long and only covers 03-04 but it tells the who's who, and the where at's. I absolutely loved reading the quotes from the Generals and reading the story of the Cav guy who killed 500 Iraqis by himself! Read it if you have any question how the war machine works, how the battles were fought, and who, what, where, and how it's all utilized, THIS IS IT!!!!

Just "GOOGLE" "global security ON POINT", starts getting good around CHAPTER 2!

Just a well written, first hand account story of us beating the fuck out of Iraq...who wouldn't enjoy that?

I know...A lying ass fake Marine trying to get laid with fairy tale war stories...homos...

I used to go to that site all the time. Definitely some great stuff all the way around, no matter what you're looking for.

Personal experience with the site: I had a guy who came out of the IRR to my reserve unit and tried to feed me a BS story about his involvement in Desert Storm. I was in Desert Storm, and used to collect historical articles about it, so I grew a little suspicious of some of the things he was saying. He claimed he had earned the CIB while helping liberate Kuwait, but I printed off a listing of units that were there and asked him to show me where his was on the list. Obviously, he couldn't, nor was there any documentation in his 201 file or online ERB to back up his claim. He finally gave up and said something to the effect of "Aww man, I was just pullin' your leg."

He had no answer when I asked him if it was possible that he had any paperwork at home. He knew he just got busted. Unfortunately for him, his new company commander was standing right there when this was going down. Needless to say, he got one hell of an ass-chewing, a counseling statement on his first day in the unit WHILE inprocessing, and had the distinct honor of knowing that his entire chain of command up to the BC and CSM already knew his name.

He lasted a grand total of eight months before getting booted out.

Lol ah the Air Force... :) An "11 series MOS" is the numerical skill identifier for the Infantry in the Army. 11 Bravo(11B) are main Infantry, 11 Charlie(11C) are Infantry Mortarmen and so on...

For anyone who is interested, here's the PDF copy of DA PAM 611-21 (Military Occupational Classification and Structure System). This lists all the Army MOS' as of 2008, along with their respective ASIs (Additional Skill Identifiers).

http://www.apd.army.mil/Home/Links/PDFFiles/MOSBook.pdf

Someone smarten me up on a couple of things: When I was in 3/5 CAV from 1992-94, the majority of the battalion was 11M (Mechanized Infantryman). I see that that MOS and 11H (Heavy Anti-Armor Weapons Infantryman) were rolled in with 11B. Any idea how long ago this happened?

Secondly, I was under the impression that Engineer MOS were going to change from 21 series back to their original 12 series. Did this not happen, or is this PAM just outdated?

keep calm and chive on, this will get worse as the years go on, every Marine you will meet will say they were force recon or sniper, Army delta/ranger/special forces, Navy seal and Airforce fist/security/recovery team? I don't bust balls anymore I just ask enough questions so they know I know they are BS, they usually buy you a round or two just for not calling them out. This even happens at our VFW where guys tell all type of tall stories but are only associate veteran or social memebers, when asked why they don't apply for regular membership they come up with some excuse, the biggest is they are afraid of letting someone review there DD-214 for membership and we are loose on the rules, I pass most vet through for regular if they served deployed during any conflict. If you let this shit eat at you your going to go crazy, this is just the tip of all this shit from Iraq and Afgan, ask the Nam guys the best quote I found is that group that calls out Navy Seals that are BS, the CPO retired that heads that group said only about 5,000 Navy Seals served in Nam but I have meet all 50,000 of them.

Yea, what is a 21 series Engineer? I was a 12 B. There were other 12 series back then. We did mines and demolition but were organized and equipped very similarly to dismounted infantry. 12C's built bridges. Other engineers did construction like carpentry and plumbing and others ran heavy equipment....????

You can never be too rich, too good looking, or too well armed...

The 11 series has gone thru changes over the years. The 11H's were phased into the Bravo series around when I was in Basic as we all received training on Heavy Anti-Armor weaponry, so somewhere around '02-'03 I believe. In my unit our entire Delta Company were all mounted Infantry, they had about 10-15 armored Humvee's that dished it out. I think they were all prior 11M. Nowadays 11M's are Bravo's too I think. They are 11B primary's and when they get assigned to a Infantry Mech unit, they receive specialized training there(like how to drive a track).
My whole Battalion was phased into a CAV unit in the 101st right after I got out so all those Bravos and Charlies are considered Mikes as a secondary.

That's why I never joined either. I had a run in with some many years back, right around the time I got back from Kosovo in March 2000. I was doing a detail for the local VFW with some other Devils and afterwards, were were chating with them about this and that in a picinic area and one inperticular "Marine Vet" was running his suck about everything under the sun. He was a bit shitfaced, but not enough to completely forget what he did in "Vietnam"....any way...the first thing that brought me to believe he was BS was that he was wearing any Army Cav Officers stetson....so...I asked he if he was in the Army, and all loud and proud he said Hell no "Sarge"...(I was a Sgt at the time), I was "Marine Corps"....so I asked him is rank...he said he was a WO....so then I asked him his MOS...he said......"Recon, LRRP, 65-69...NAM, 25th Brigade...!".....I gave him a passive look of disapproval, and tried to let it go....so a few minutes go by, and he grabs one of the VFWs blank firing M-1 Garands rifles....and he is trying to fire it into the air....but can't seem to figure it out....anyway...I excussed myself from the table I was at and walked smartly over to this gentleman...I snatched the weapon from his hands...racked it, hit the interal mag release and sent the bolt home, I got in his face and told his tell his bullshit story walkin'....he said "hey Sarge..."...and I cut him off quick, fast, and in a hurry...and advised him that "Sarge" was never used in the 20th century for Sargeant...nor did we ever wear stetsons, or have LRRPs....and there was no 25th Brigade....and sure as shit NOT in Vietnam.....and for the time frame that he stated he was in, he would have been trained on the M1 in ITR...and a supposed Recon Marine of that period whould surely remember how to operate such a weapon...and to stay away from me and my Marines for the remainder of the time we were in the park. He, quickly understood I called his BS and he just walked away and stayed clear of us. I returned to the table and handed the weapon back over to the old timers who we were talking to and they asked me what I said....I told them that him and I were discussing the finer points of the Corps....the guy gave a sutble laugh and said in a low tone...they always knew he was full of shit, but he was from a different post...and we left it at that. I guess the VFW never really checked his claims....I dunno how it works, but this guy fell through somehow.

Just be proud of your service, most people don't even have the courage to sign on the dotted line and give themselves to a greater purpose. Tube strokers have the sharpest skates!!!!

There are few things I say to people if they ask....

-I was a 1369 stingball grenadier

-Flamethrower operator

-door gunner on the space shuttle

I say those with a straight face and usually get a "ohhhhh, response". The stingball grenadier is my favorite

well we check DD214 for becoming a regular member we have a group of 4 one from each service except the Coast Guard. The checks most are easy except for the early 80's and 90's were you have to look for certain service related stuff and dates. Like I said we have a lot of associated vets who just show us something that they were in. These are the guys I usually hear talking BS, but then they usually have enough sense to keep their mouth shut when certain people are at the bar. I guess I'm really into it since I live in a dry town and the only place to drink is the VFW and American Legion.
