Not sure I would rate these actors as the top 5 in games but I now know who the people whose voices are behind each character

He isn't strictly relegated to the games but Kevin conroy/mark hammil were fantastic in the Arkham series.

I would have to agree with #1, though. The Master Chief's voice is so epic and fits perfectly. Best voice in any game I've ever played.

Best voice actor is Mark Hamill. I dig all the cartoon voices he did too growing up.

That's cause he's not as universally badass as Master Chief. Or Shepard foe that matter. : p

I think it would take away from the aura of him. Seeing a face would be almost like a letdown, because we haven't seen a face...ever!

It also keeps the person playing the game guessing on who he is. Is he a full robot, half robot half man, or all human in a bad suit. Either way, Master Chief is someone I would want to be around when shit goes down lol

Naw, that's all been covered. He's full human, with medical enhancements and a badass suit.

Personally, I think it's a mix of mystery and the ability to have him look like whoever you want.

Imagine if they had gone all Commander Shepard face design though......

If they did. They would have to create one bad ass face....with some scars and shit like that lol. I mean, the dude has been shot, stabbed, blown up, and etc. You can't just give him a pretty face and all lol

Well his face is pale, according to some novels as a result of years in the suit. Don't know about scars, since he's been protected by a suit most of the time. But I'm sure he has a few.

Fall of Reach is the best IMO. The Flood and First Strike are pretty good. Contact Harvest is ok. I really liked Cole Protocol and Ghosts of Onyx. A lot of people didn't like Glasslands (and there were a couple things in there I didn't like, but overall average), and the sequel is coming out in October. The forerunner saga is pretty interesting, even if it doesn't relate to the Spartans, it gives some interesting backstory.

Agree with Fall of Reach being awesome, and I really enjoyed the backstory to Flood. Largely agree with the rest, but I'm one of those who didn't live Grasslands. Mostly because I can't stand Karen Travis.

Sorry, but completely rewriting canon because you feel like it is more than taking liberties. There's a reason they're retconning a bunch of her Star Wars stuff.

From Star Wars?

The whole "Mandalorians are the moral compass of the galaxy" bit. Which was a major retcon from her in the first place.

Her insinuations that they were equal or greater to the Jedi and Sith.

That the Jedi Order itself is inherently flawed and fundamentally corrupt, as well as hold no allegiance to the Republic, only to the Order.

The idea that the Clone Army is in fact a slave army that secretly despises and hates the Jedi.

The concept that the entire Clone Army only consists of 3 million or so clones, which defeated 200 million+ droids.

That there are thousands of Jedi who feel Yoda and his beliefs are foolish, dogmatic, and outright evil. Yoda, who is the second most enlightened and knowledgeable Jedi in the entire continuity.

Apparently when Jaina, who is at the time the best combatant in the Order, is confronting the Sith Lord who was her brother, her problem was that she didn't enter a haze of battlelust and anger. Only by giving in to her emotions would she be able to defeat Caedus. As a Jedi. Or how she simply couldn't understand how to fight against someone who couldn't be felt with the force, who had lightsaber resistent armor and weapons.......even though she had spent an entire trilogy perfecting just that.

My favorite retcon, though, is when Karen Traviss has Darth Caedus, who's the grandson of Vader, and is basically Darth Vader 2.0, defeated soundly and running for his life from 12 Mandalorians. Only to see, 3 books later, Caedus toying with the same 12 Mando's before putting them out of their misery.

The woman has such a hard-on for the Mando culture and a blind hatred of the Jedi, it borders on the obscene. But I guess you can't really expect more from someone who never watched the prequels before writing prequel era novels, never did more than read editor notes on any other Star Wars novels before she butchered their characters, and honestly believed that the Jedi and Sith were never more than a Star Wars based Nazi party. One of my favorite Traviss quotes:

Getting into Jedi heads was that much harder. But I swore I could get into the most repellent characters' heads and see them as they see themselves, so I had to. I still wouldn't trust the Jedi Council with my wallet, let alone with running my country, but you won't spot that in the books. I keep my spoonbenderist views to myself.
or

I see Vader as a tragic character who's been betrayed by everyone, and I can't help thinking of the Jedi as self-serving unelected elitist spoon-benders making whoopee on Republic taxpayers' credits. It's an iconoclastic journo world-view. Believe me, Order 66 was long overdue. I have a couple of Jedi that I don't want to shoot on sight, but they're my own creations, so I could make them a little humbler and more aware of the consequences they create for others.

Yeah, not so much. Oh, and comparing fans who point out your flaws and failures in-print to the Taliban.....

I completely forgot about Evolutions, even though I loved it and it's sitting on my shelf. Don't know how that happened. And I was unaware that there was another book in the Forerunner saga upcoming. I had thought they were done, but I enjoyed the first two so I'll get that one too.

Well, not really. There were only a handful before the early 90s (Heir to the Empire in 1991 really popularized the genre). But they still have 10+ years on them, and probably a wider audience.

I didn't know that. Star Wars def has a larger audience than Halo. Most, maybe all, readers who read the Halo series are those who played the game first and than read the series.

I know this is an older topic, but im surprised no one said Nolan North.

He plays Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, Desmond Miles in Assassins Creed, the Penguin in both Arkham city and now in Origins, Dr. Rictofen in Nazi Zombies, and David in The Last of Us, just to name a few. Sure he might not be 100% number one, but he has been in so many games, he is like the 'Leading man' so to say.
