I have found electronic warfare to be my point of interest. I played a couple PVP low level battles, and found the ship with the superior electronics usually beats a ship with superior armor. Or at least that has been my experience so far.
I am Amari, so I was looking at either the Curse or the Sacriledge. The Curse "says" it is the electronic warfare platform, but looking at capaciter, power, etc the Sacriledge looks better. I can also qualify for the Sacriledge faster than the Curse. Thoughts on one versus the other?
Also, what equipment counters a warp scrambler and one of the vampire modules? The one battle I lost the guy tangled me then drained me.
Thanks guys....I get my retriever tomorrow so I can make some money to get more fancy stuff. :-) Still staying in .8 and above for now.
I am still new, so somebody else hopefully answers these questions. I have used some EM shield/defense to escape a web effected.

GREAT! You sir are on your way to greatness and becoming the BAIN of all your enemies, welcome to the BEST career in PvP!...but you will hate what I have to say.....

Ok, Amarr ships, suck with capacitor...typically in PvP, most Amarr ships are fitted with projectile weapons...yes, arty and autocannons....mostly the later, because they do not use cap. With that said.....they both suck as EWAR Plats....the best EWAR ships in game are Caldari ships. The reason is because they are ECM boats, and ECMS=Life in PvP...and you do not need T2 mods....the meta 4 ones are just as good and half the price. The Curse is a Combar recon ship, but usually only seen in small gang-pvp....the Sac is a HAC, heavy Assualt crusier and uses missiles...it has a good tank, but is useless as and EWAR ship...and rarely seen in PvP because missiles are not the primary of Amarr...they are the Caldari weapon of choice. You are looking at two different ships that fit roles on the opposite end of the spectrum...don't do that, play within the roles!
Also, what equipment counters a warp scrambler and one of the vampire modules? The one battle I lost the guy tangled me then drained me.
There really is nothing that counters warp scrams and vamps....EXCEPT, ECMS and SPEEEEEED. Getting out of range is key, and jamming off targets is what is sought in fleets. EWAR is a tough but rewarding career....most of the time you will have to be super heads up and be watching EVERYTHING! You warp in at you optimum range, generally 50km-120km depending on your skills and ship boosts. Your weapons will NOT be alot, you are not DPS, but support. Your weapons will consist of self defense for drones and fast friggies...those are what will come for you. You main goal in life is to use jammers to keep the enemy from targeting your mates, this is why drones are a PITA for you, once set on aggressive, they will seek you out....but only when you are in their range...and there are NOT many ships that can send them out to your range is its 120km. As an ECM boat you DO NOT WANT TO BE IN your targets RANGE....I can not over state this! You are there not to scram or DPS, but jam! Again, fly the role!
With that said, each race has an EWAR platform, but Caldari is the most widely used. Amarr has vamps and turret destab, but they are not used much in fleets...if at all. Mimis have target painters which is not a big deal, everyone uses them, BUT they have the Raiper....the most used, most effective, most lethal TACKLER in game....you will be able to point(warpscam/jam) and web(slow down) at over 150km with the right gear and skills.....good raiper pilots are very sought out! And the Gallentee have catch all, middle of the road EWAR, the Atron is a nice, throw away ship used as a respectible tackler...but the Keres and Malus are meh...ok in small groups. The Arazu makes a GREAT tanked scout that can use a cover ops generator....they are leath ships, but fit that hunter-killer role....if you see a lone arazu and he is NOT running...be carefull....he probably has 30+ friends a few systems out just waiting to ruin your day with a mere mouse click.
Thanks guys....I get my retriever tomorrow so I can make some money to get more fancy stuff. :-) Still staying in .8 and above for now.
Anytime! EWAR is my bread and butter....I've played them the most since 2008...ALL my accounts have EWAR in every race..I'd have no issue with answering you questions!
So I got lucky then, I have heard the Caldari ships for electronic warfare are best. I was headed in that direction before I found my notch in the industrial side. I rat some, but I like hanging out mining and helping the corp setup manufacturing and future possibilities

Good thing I am only 13 days into my training, and I needed to get my retriever first anyway. So what ship would you suggest I train for, assuming I go the Caldari route?
Also, when you say "tackler", what do you mean? I take it to mean a Jujitsu type role, where you get in close, trap them, and pound the crap out of them.
Thanks again!

tackler is the guy that hold a target up . then high DPS guys take em out. I heard the Ferox is good.

Caldari ECM, is:
Frigate
Griffin T1
Kitsune T2
Cruiser
Blackbird T1
Falcon and Rook T2
Battleship Faction and T2s
Black widow
Scorpion
And train for frigate sized t2 autocannons, Missiles, and hybrids, plus all the Ecm skills and targeting, electronic, ewar etc etc, drones are must too! Also, Falcons and Blackbirds are usually plated! 1600mm plates, ill define a fit more after work

O.K. I am still totally confused at how to read specs then. Here is what I mean: I compared the Falcon, the Curse, and the Arazu. The following was what I read:
Drone Capacity: 50 for Falcon, 150 for Curse, 40 for Arazu. It would appear Curse wins.
Capacitor: 1093 F / 1250 C / 1156 A. Again appears Curse wins.
Power: 700 F / 900 C / 750 A. - Curse
Range: 120 F / 130 C / 112 A. - Curse
CPU: 500 F / 380 C / 420 A. Falcon
Speed: 169 / 175 / 180 - Arazu
Low: 3 / 4 / 4 - Curse & Arazu
Mid: 7 / 6 / 6 - Falcon
High: 4 / 5 / 4 - Curse
Turrets: 3 / 2 / 3 - Falcon & Arazu
Launch: 1 / 4 / 1 - Curse
Locked Targets: 7 / 10 / 7 - Curse
Scan: 220 / 281 / 231 - Curse
Signature: 180 / 150 / 162 - Curse
All other items: Exactly the same on all three
Please don't think I am doubting you.....I am just trying to understand how to read all these specs. From the spec sheet, the way I interpret it, the Curse is better?
I think I am more confused now than when I started. LOL. Once I have this figured out, I have a question about Alts, but I will save that one for later until I figure out my first guy.

Understandable, specs are important, but for fitting within its role. Ie You dont put ECMs on a assault crusier, yiu fill those spots out for tanking. You have to forget that more is better idea of most games...thats why eve is daunting. Think of it as RL weapon platforms, you dont sent an aircraft carrier to just off ashore to bombard, despite it possesing the most firepower...nor do you uses an M1 Abrams as a street fighter....again, play within the roles. Each ship had a specific function, which is detailed in the initial description, go with that, there are rare occasions of deviation from theses riles but not really at the basic level of training.
Make more sense?

O.K. I get the Abrams as a room clearing tool analogy. But what I still don't understand is the Falcon you mentioned is listed as a "recon cruiser", which is the same thing the Curse is listed as. Is there a listing somewhere that says "this ship is best suited for this role"?
Am I just an idiot, or does everyone have this many challenges with this crazy game? :aconfused:

This. Bigger is not better. All ships have roles that they excel in. While a pistol can breach a door, a shotgun works better.

Everyone has these challenges! EWAR encompases many things, turrent destabilization, ecm, target painting, sensor damps...etc etc, they are not all the same thing. The curse is not a wildy used Ewar ship because it diesnt bring much to the table. Sure u can fit ecms on it, but thats like putting a bayonet on a revolver....will it work...sure...but is not effective at all. The Falcon is one of the most feared ships in EVE. You will always be the primary target because you keep the enemy from targeting...which means they can not use their weapons. Which is why falcon pilots fly cloaked and remain so until a few moments after the battle starts....people literally shit when they see it uncloak...and focus on it. The idea in eve is to focus on one thing, and do it well vise have a little of everything. Especially T2 ships, you must excel at one thing! Each race in EVE specializes in something...not every ship does the same thing, so just because you are Amarr, doesnt mean you only fly Amarr ships. The idea is to pick a career path....say EWar...then you are best suited in being able to fly every races ship.....that is that role...which means ideally, you start with Caldari ships, max out cal frigate and cruiser, then all the ecm skills plus support....Then you ma out every races frigates and cruisers. Most of use ewar/covert ops pilots trained battlecruisers and battleships last..unless its a huge powerful fleet...we stay in Rapiers and Falcons...and not the big slow BBs or BCs.
Starting to make sense?
Each ships has bonuses for certain moduales.

Sorry for the horrendous typos...im at work using my iphone that has a smashed screen....
Every time I take a shortcut and try to rat unprepared or pvp I lose a ship. Lost a drake on a 30 NPC's spawn today. Still learned from it on better tactics, cause we came back with our other drakes and wiped em all out, 4 man team. Train your basics and listen to these guys, I didn't and I am definitely paying for it.

And don't forget to take skill bonuses into account.
Each of these ships should have skill and role bonusesthat will throw the base stats comparison once you train the proper skills for the boat.

Very true words.
I don't know if you already do, but use evemon and for iPad neocom. There is an awesome 60 day plan for a lot of the stuff I need to train on goon wiki.
Make friends online, when your having issues with the training mission or missions at all fleet up. Fleets are everything mining or ops or ratting. I learned that the hard way.

Don't underestimate T1 ships and their value. You've got a year to a Falcon? Get all over that Blackbird then, so you can learn the tactics to go with your shiney new Falcon. That way, when you fork get it, you don't lose it in your first fleet.

What about a Harbinger for the lower level PVE stuff while I am getting my skills all fitted? It looks like it has some pretty decent slots for firepower and energy draining devices. I can fly it in 2 days, be fairly well skilled for it in 2 weeks, and on the fit guide I looked at, many of the skills transfer straight into the Falcon.
By the way, thanks for the retriever advice earlier. I just received it today and the thing is a monster money maker in high-sec space. Two strip miners and 3 mining drones tears it up. :-)

Train some sort of combat drone and lose the mining drones bfore you try 0.7 or lower space or try mining missions.

Cool.....I need something good for PVE while I am training for the real stuff.
I have found mining during the day in .9 I can AFK with mining drones. During the night I have been going into .6 space and cruising asteroid belts for pirates. I destory them, open cargo, grab the loot, then sell it for a profit. I made around $15 million today.....so it was a good day. :-)
Right now I am using a Punisher with rigs to max out capacitor size and recharge, 3 medium lasers, one of those things that zaps the other guys capacitor, a sensor dampener with scripts & a phase dampenor with scripts in mid, 2 armor plates in low, a reactor boost in low, and an armor repair in low. I can chew through the pirates pretty quick with that little boat.
I have the Falcon plan with recommended certificates loaded in my skill planner.
Thanks for all the help!

No problem, BTW, the goons site you have access to has the ABSOLUTE PERFECT way a falcon should be fitted....NO DEVIATION....its the BEST fit out there and most used. Before I left, I looked at all their fits,,,,they are all solid....(except their method of bombers....but that for another day)...everything else was spot on perfect!

I am from DNS, Dirt Nap Squad, its te original Covert Ops corp. We Arent exactly blue or neut to goons....they are our favorite target...but we also do not operate in the space you guys are in....we work in the other null sec areas and are very nomadic...we do not put up a flag so to speak. As for dues...its 50 million isk a month to maintain active menberhip...i have to pay over a billion in past dues and the time I was away to get back. It covers all the costs of operations, full ship replacement and the fuel needed for cyni jumps and that shit.
KopfeJager

Which is one of the reasons I left the corp. Once they said full background checks where going to happen, I knew I would put our FUB leaders in a pinch....since DNS I have been apart of ops to kill goons and their allies....I didnt want any of that to turn into EVE drama. Besides, DNS had been begging me to return...I have specific qualities that they enjoyed and turning on the dudes who took care of me for two years is not my style. Again, I am beyond elated FUB found a way into the goon nation....its something that happens to only .01% of EVE players......I wasnt about to muck that up with my previous collaborations!!
That's cool. I know more now so I can see the issues your talking about. The goons are cool. Tim is part of the risk breaker corp leadership. Yeah FUB didn't last long, but it was a good bridge to where we are now. Good luck with your group. I can understand the loyalty to them. I am more miner/ratter than pvp.

I figure this is a good place to jump in with another question. If I am getting annoying just let me know. :-)
I made a little money earlier running anti-rat patrol for a mining fleet in .6 space. We were chatting about the fact I am trying to build up my skills to join a group in low-sec/nul-sec. One of the other players started looking up all the info and stated they knew the group (or at least their "alt" did), it didn't have any soveriegnty (sp?) but was aligned with the Goonswarm, which was of the big "goon groups" in EVE. This player was telling me all kinds of stuff like pilot stats, mission profile, history of the alliance, etc. So I have two questions..... 1. What does it mean to be a "goon"? :-) I always kind of thought of that as a trouble maker, which is cool if it is...just wondering. 2. Where in the holy crap did someone find out all this info on the fly like that? I mean they had intel that would make the CIA look stale.
Goon is goon swarm, it is a large kind of alliance of alliances. They offer all kinda of info for players. I am using their first 60 skill plan import for eve on. They have goon Wiki too. We are part of that group. And you can look up the other members that are registered on their site and get info. Also we share our api's for the background checks and registration,

1. What does it mean to be a "goon"? :-) I always kind of thought of that as a trouble maker, which is cool if it is...just wondering.
Trouble maker....yes...but that is good in EVE! Goons are hated, mostly because of jealousy....they are by far the best corp, next to EVE-UNI in EVE....organized, squared away, and prolific...much of EVE is molded and shaped because of Goons...to be affiliated with them is a good thing!
2. Where in the holy crap did someone find out all this info on the fly like that? I mean they had intel that would make the CIA look stale.
EVE is full of CIA type shit...heck I even have a web sight that lets me read the major corps and alliances mails...including yours! It all depends on what gets posted via API to a corp or alliance....so be VERY cautious about what you say....even in TS, vent and jabber. There are plenty of sights that one can go to to check out a player or organization...including Killboards....if a corps wants to go to war, all they have to do is check the kill boards to see what their target corps is like...fits, tactics, player skill...etc etc.....EVE is a place to be vauge...even to your "friends"......
And don't worry about asking too many questions......I have no issue with asking them!

I see Kopfe and Port have been keeping u squared away John. WHich is a good thing. I dont know if anyone has told u if Tim or Dave have but as soon as ur rdy ur more than welcome to join us. Port and Kopfe are right that the space we are in is one of the most secure spots there is in EVE. Granted we get visited every now and then from people from a Wormhole but that is to be expected. They want to test their skills against us lol. But yea a Falcon and Blackbird are very much in need in the CFC fleets. And yes know ur roles and what to do in a blackbird before u fly out in a Falcon, those are not cheap ships. Granted Ratting out in our space can replace it very quickly lol. But as for ur questions Kopfe answered then very well and if u have anymore feel free to ask man. We are all hear to help one another.

As you already know, in order to access Goon Wiki you need to be in Risk Breakers. You can stay in High sec for a while and still be a part of Risk Breakers but you will need to be reasonably close to moving out to Null-Sec. That is really your decision, but if you want to join us ASAP then train to fly a Stealth Bomber, with a Covert ops cloaking Device II, Torpedo Launchers, and a Bomb Launcher.
You should be able to access this (https://wiki.goonfleet.com/Recommended_skill_training_guide)
That is just a recommended skill training. I can give you a more in depth training list shortly specific to Stealth Bombers.

I am glad Tim replied. He can point you in the corp direction. I am still pretty new myself. I joined the game in June, but didn't play most of July and moved to lo sec quickly. Maybe too quick, but the support and team work makes it OK. I just have to ask for items I can't find in the solar system from my corporation or alliance people. Most I have just met.

The main reason I say a Stealth Bomber is that you can move around unseen, you can travel through the 'Hot Spots' with little to no position, and you are setting yourself up for the Falcon. I love my SB, that is currently the biggest combat ship I fly, I will eventually get into the Minmatar Covert Ops Cruiser, and so on. But, if you want to get out and into the fray with the rest of us get into an SB and have all of the supporting skills trained.

Also to point out they do amazing damage to large targets....and can cause fleets to break when they lauch a bomb...which I might add is an art form...most players tend to either blow themselves up with their own bomb, or killed by the enemy once they launch it....you tube how to do it...its not as easy as one thinks...but I digress...Torpedoes do full damage to their targets and are a nice addition to any fleet...just remember, ince yellow boxed, you warp out and back in...you can not take much in wat of damage, they are glass cannons.
So this morning when I woke up there was an email I had a retriever lost due to server lag last week and and the eve support guys returned it. I was expecting to get an email saying they wouldn't look at my petition but I got my retriever back

So this morning when I woke up there was an email I had a retriever lost due to server lag last week and and the eve support guys returned it. I was expecting to get an email saying they wouldn't look at my petition but I got my retriever back

Grats. I lost about 500 million because of a lag kill and they told me "so sorry."

it happened twice last week, the other was a Drake decked out with brand new Limos, I think advanced and at the time my only ballistic controls. It still acts funny this week. I have to warp 5 seconds before I want to.

Anyone have a good fit for the Blackbird you were talking about earlier? I can fly it and thought I would give it a shot.

Here it it, the most widly used fit for the BB. Generally you NEVER put T2 mods on this puppy....because you die often...So, put the best meta mods you can afford....besides most meta4 are better then T2 anyway! Also, its a good move to put a remote reper vise the salvager if you can, you'll help your fleet out better after the fight. Good luck Have fun with it...

After a Ritter roam last night I think I'm going to try training to the blackbird for scouting or covert ops. I will use your fit

So I heard from a few people in game that the next update is going to nerf missiles to try and move the universe away from all the Caldari ships and level the field more. Anyone har anything about that being true? If so, should I change my plans from training for a Manticore? I would hate to spend 8 days training missiles and torpedoes only to have them nerfed in the end.
Also, I joined the Corp "Rookies Alliance" for now. They run missions in high sec for newer players, and then they also have some people and a sovereign spot in null sec. I ran a few fleet missions today and made about $45m between bounties, rewards, and salvage. They will give me the Manticore fitted once I get trained, so I guess that would be one reason not to give up on it. I see now that Eve is much more fun in a group.

Nice, I heard that it was about needing the drake, but since my alliance is a lot of drakes that's the complaint I hear the most. Problem is they should just make the weapons what they should be and leave it. Nerfing is terrible to me.

I would suggest sticking with the Manticore. I love my Stealth Bombers, and regardless of whatever they take away from missiles/torpedos the Stealth Bomber is invaluable for many more reasons.

I forget your kell lol. I can't believe when we were chasing the first guy I threw my fit in the local chat. It was fun and gen is always teaching. I love that. It was a blast and I hope to do more of those. Just need to figure if there's a way to not lose the implants. That's was expensive.

And considering that a Manticore generally doesn't use Heavy missiles, it should be fine regardless of the HM nerf. Alliance SB's are Torpedo boats.

I had one setup but forgot to change my station to QYZ where the jump clone is lol
So the op on Friday , how do I get to areas without dying. Am I supposed to kill my clone again ? That's getting expensive. I keep losing money replacing implants every week

The corp/alliance/coalition basically assumes that everyone has at least two jump clones (3 bodies total): Your main body in corporate space, a jump clone in the Hot Spot of the Week (currently UMI), and a shopping clone in hi-sec (almost always Jita 4-4 CNAP).
If you're talking about the WH op that's staging in Jita/Amarr, they expect you to jump to your Jita clone.

I will jump clone from QYZ to I7 then pod myself to not lose them. I am going to wait til after tonight's corp meeting. I hate the 24 hour rule, I can jump down there then wait a day. kinda sucks. but changing station helps if I am in a hurry.
I am at 4 mil ISK since I bought some stuff and was doing mainly corp mining last week, I will Rat a little or mine to get some cash so when I go to Jita I can buy a ship for the OP Friday. I dont want ISK help just advice lol.
edit: of course if Gen's offer for free ISK to attend meeting is true I will have some ISK lol

I'll probably buy a ship in Jita too since my SRP Drake was destroyed when I was ganked by a gate camp between UMI and Jita today. Had it insured but still lost 20 mil. I was was pretty short on ISK too, but not quite as low as you, I think buying and fitting a new Drake will pretty much wipe me out. I hope Gen does give away ISK. :)

So skill boosts. Jump I-7 to QY so you keep a skill-clone at your home system, and don't have to worry about replacing them.

Can someone explain this a bit better for me? I don't have any jump clones and don't know how to use them. Do you train it separately? Use separate implants.

You train "Infomorph Psychology." Each skill level allows you to install another jump clone. They are installed similarly to how you install a normal clone. However, you need a high standing to install a jump clone, 8.0 in high-low sec, or "excellent" standing with a corporation...though there is a way to bypass the standing requirement in high-sec.
After you train at least 2 points in Infomorph Psychology, go to I-7 and install a jump clone through the med-center. Then, fly or pod yourself to Jita, park in the station, and jump to your clone in I-7. Rinse/repeat.
There are two real big benefits to jc's. One, obviously, is travelling great distances very, very fast. The other, is that when you have implants installed in a clone, those implants stay with the clone. So if you have training implants, + X to stats, you can utilize them without losing the isk while PvPing. Or have +mining/indy implants on one clone and + combat implants on another.

So my "learning implants" I put on the clone that stays in sleep mode back in my hangar. Then I have a combat clone where the 6-9 slots are filled with combat implants, a industry clone with 6-9 industry implants, etc.

Yeah.
And once you're making decent money you can keep less expensive attribute implants in your combat clone, too. I have +4 in my hi-sec & indy clones, and +3 in my combat clones.
The most valuable thing in EVE is skill points.

Basically, yeah. Realistically though, I wouldn't worry about the combat implants until you can afford to buy and throw them away.

Yep. I talked with the CEO and he said no problem. It is a good group. Hit me up in game. There is a corp hangar with all kinds of goodies in Lonetrek: Ouranienen if you want to head that direction and get some stuff to make life easier. I just made about $45m tonight running behind them and cleaning up cargo-holds then reprocessing and selling the good stuff. That was all in High-Sec. Not bad for 2 hours of stress free gaming. :-) They are no Goonswarm, but a pretty chill group.
