I know a lot of us already have one in their sigs, but what are your favorite inspirational/military quotes?
Here's some of mine (I'm sure many of you have heard these):
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
John Stuart Mill
We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.
Winston Churchill

I use this as my work email signature.
" The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." - Vince Lombardi

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.
When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.
Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools
and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.”
'Your father was a good man -- growing up without him is going to be hard. It is going to hurt. You will feel alone, out to sea, with no shore in site; you'll wonder, why me? Why him? Remember, you have warrior's blood in your veins -- the code that made your father who he was is the same code that will make you a man he will admire. Respect.
Put your pain in a box -- lock it down; like those people in those paintings your father used to like. Real men, made up of boxes -- chambers of loss and triumph of hurt and hope and love. No one is stronger or more dangerous than who can harness his emotions -- his past.
Use it as fuel, as ammunition as ink to write the most important letter of your life"

May have been. That's the problem with a lot of quotes. Often one person makes a quote actually spoken by someone else others have never heard of (I have heard of George Orwell). Regardless, thanks for the correction.

Mine is from a movie. Long live Mel Gibson lol
"Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!"

I like this one, "For those who have fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know." The best answer I could come up with for the author was Lance Corporal Edwin Craft during a speech in Vietnam. Though some have argued Andrew Jackson said it first but I can't prove that.

At least you don't have people making fun of your boot camp like the Army does. Example: Laxing Jackson. Or making fun of others for being to soft or FAT. I've never met a Marine who was fat, and I mean NEVER. What the fuck do they feed you guys lol?

well we run a lot in but I think its more the recruit if you show up to PI as fat-body your done, you go to pork chop PLT until you can pass the basic PFT then join a regular training PLT, had 1 that had already spent several months on the Island before he joined our PLT, but out of nowhere during a hygiene inspection he started to shit himself right there on the line in the barracks, DI went off push him down in it and rub him in his own shit. We dressed and went out to do drill when we got back the kid and all his stuff was gone. Just like in the Army if your a fat body and go for your ranger tab you done from day one.

In the Marine Corps, you get shamed into loosing weight with red stripes across your PT gear, then pork chop plt. If you can't hack it. They get less food, and more PT, plus all the DI's fuck with them plus the rest of the recruits will all call you a fat fuck until you lose the weight. It's actually kind of funny!! Lol!!

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.

When I was in basic, there was no red stripes to mark diet privates. Of course at the time the motivation was comply with the program as you will never leave. We had one guy who was recycled had been there 8 months but he was in CCP. It seemed the same dudes in PCP my whole time there. They used to parade those privates everywhere as motivation for what can happen to you. LOL
Even the people who popped positive for drugs when they were 1st in receiving, they waited until the last week before graduation and then tell them to pack their shit as they are getting kicked. They would rake them over the coals and then take them away for a couple hours and they would come back and they would graduate with the platoon later in the week.
This was 34 years ago so different times. The attitude was no matter what you do, no matter what you are - you ain't getting out.
They did say, we'll let you out, if you call your Mom and Dad and swear that your are a HOMO.. Ha! some funny shit..

we had guys pop + on the drug screen they got pulled at the beginning of phase 3 and sent home. We had 1 guy try to go AWOL during swim qual since he was a tracker but did not know how to swim so he was going to get put as open contract damn recruiters putting a kid in a MOS and never telling him he needed to know how to swim. The DI went nuts that AM head count, were all over the night watch that was on. The MP showed up just as were heading to the pool with him, the DI's said he tried to walk off the Island but got confused and lost and was found. We never saw him again, DI's said he was taken out and shot (we figured they just sent him home).

Ha... that would be a bummer.. they let the privates graduate, we had 3 of them.. They told them they were going to get the boot. and they were crying .. LOL maybe it was what they tested positive for whether you got the boot or not. I don't know any details .. too busy in the sand pit.
We had one diet private they caught eating to much chow.. DI's gave him a cup to told him to puke in it ... he did ... Then they were yelling "DRINK IT". LOL...

When I was in boot camp one guy was told by god knows who, if you want to quit just sit on your foot locker and say you refuse to train!! Man, I spent a lot of time on the quarter deck on that day because I kept laughing at the reaction of the DI's. They were a little taken back at first, then they laughed at him, they they went all out ballistic on him, it was hilarious!! Ultimately, I'm glad they send people like that home. Why lower the standard for someone with no heart!! He would have gotten someone killed in combat, I have no sympathy for quitters.

People like that, I really did not understand why they signed up in the 1st place. It's no secret that basic can be tough. I do think they keep people that should not of not been there, but at the same time, even though the draft had been discontinued for 6 years, it was hard getting bodies. Vietnam was still fresh in peoples minds. Recruiters were saying - "Got all your arms and legs, and no metal plates, no problem". Also the courts were still giving join the service or else... Really, it seemed to me it was just a numbers game.
I never saw anyone refusing to train and if it did cross someones mind, it was obvious that there were 2 options, blanket party or CCP. If someone did something like that the whole platoon would be punished.
Of course one dumbass in our series (another platoon), told his DI's that he wanted to be in our platoon. That was freaking hilarious. They sent him over and our DI's gave him a warm welcome.. LOL....

That must have been hilarious for both platoons. What an idiot!! My platoon had a guy think it would be a good idea to grab his poncho liner and go to sleep on the dryers while he had fire watch. Needless to say none of the following fire watches were woken up so neither was the DI in the morning. He went nuts when he found his fire watch sleeping. The DI destroyed the squad bay, then called all the squad leaders into the senior DIs office. I was a squad leader at the time and he told us the next time he has the duty, the blinds will be closed, and he will be very tired. When he gets up in the morning he expects to see this particular recruit laying on the floor bleeding. He goes, when that happens I will assume he fell out of his rack!! Lol!!!

It was funny... go for a couple days and things would be clicking. Come back from chow and find all the racks turned over, linen in one big pile, and the footlockers in a giant pryamid with names tape removed.... WTF - Here we go again LMAO! "Get your asses in the classroom!!!"

PI boot stories are great, in my company they always laugh when I say present on teleconference, so finally someone asked why I just don't say here like everyone else, I then tell them about the one time I said here when a DI called my name, he walked over looked me up and down and said well you little piece of amphibious shit where's the rabbit at? in your pocket, No sir, so your the rabbit, I had to hop like a rabbit to chow hall, that was a pain in the ass.

We had a recruit a couple recruits that wish they never said certain things.
Because it was raining one day we were all doing rifle manual on the quaterdeck of a crushed squad bay. The DI doing his rounds told Riggins to keep his eblows tight, and smacked his elbow to bring them closer to Riggins. Right after Riggins did the DI the dumbest thing ever and said "This recruits elbows are tight, sir!" After that we were probably all thinking the same think in our minds, you dumb ass! Seconds later the senior peaked his head out of his room and yelled "Riggins get over here!" As soon as Riggins got over there the senior grabbed his head and throw this kid in the DI hooch. We heard all sorts of banging and sounds like he was smashed into a filing cabinet also with lots of "Ohhh, Aww, oww!!" Finally you could hear the senior say "don't you ever talk back to my DIs!!!!" Once Riggins came out his face was bright red like a tomato and was shaking uncontrollably. We asked later what happened in the DI hooch and he would always just said, "nothing, don't worry about it" and continued to shake if asked about it.
We had another kid get thrashed everyday so bad on the quaterdeck that he failed the final PFT on purpose. They hated that guy because he would never sound off and always had his mouth gaping open. He had glasses to, just imagine Napoleon Dynamite with a shaved head and that was this guy. He didn't do a single pull-up and just hung on the bar then dropped back down. So they dropped him the PCP.
In 2003 when I went through had the, diet trays a.k.a fat bodies with stripes on all their skivvie shirts and sweatshirts.
