Just about a 4:30 min freefall. I watched the press conference. Preliminary data had him at 1+ mach. The few jumps (static) I have made seemed to last like 30 secs...

I heard him say a couple of times that his visor had fogged up. That would be pretty scary...to fall that far that fast and not be able to see anything.

I watched the video of the first person who did the first free fall and from what he said, it was insane to fall and not here anything. Then when you reached a certain point, all you heard was the sound of the wind rushing by you. Imagine what the air sounds like going 800 miles an hour. Ridic my friend...ridic

I would really like to see some of the physics data. For instance, the felt force of wind resistance. Just keeping your arms in a safe position that also facilitates stable flight has to be an athletic feat. I just completed my level 3 jump of advanced freefall program, and I can tell you that falling at terminal velocity-ish (120 - 130 mph), while not being overly physically demanding, after a 1 minute-ish freefall in stable flight, your arms do feel fatigued...obviously his arm positioning would be very different than mine. Most likely only deflecting slight hand angles would have dramatic effects.

Also, if you noticed, his parachute was roughly the size of a tandem chute for heavy jumpers. This indicates to me that at time of opening, he would have to have slowed to nearly terminal velocity for surface atmosphere. How much friction in terms of heat energy does the suit, harness, etc have to withstand????? Again, wow!

I'm no expert when it comes to jumping out of planes like yourself but I would imagine that slight movement of the hand would def have huge effects in your fall back to earth. Especially when traveling faster than sound

He wasn't outside the atmosphere-he fell from the stratosphere so they didn't have to worry about re-entry heat. The next step is to have a re-entry jump.
