Chris Roberts, formerly of Origin and the creative mind behind the Wing Commander series of games, is working on a new PC space sim in a similar vein. No software publisher will back it, so he's trying to fund it with "CrowdFunding". Early funders will have access to the alpha and get various additional freebies, assuming the minimum funding goal is reached. Certain funding options include the option to get a refund if the minimum goal is not reached.

The final game is supposed to be a blend of Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer, with both MMO play and offline single player modes and all of the gradients in between.

Looks good. I like the split screen in the video comparing Squadron 42 to Wing Commander. I remember playing PC DOS version of Wing Commander, which seems like a century ago.

I have been following this game since it was announced in August of 2012 and I have to say that where it is going looks amazing. I really think that USMG should jump on board with a presence. I am going to be pledging for the $45 level here soon it think. I am really impressed so far.

I got the $35 one with the basic ship. The way I look at it, its a $35 pre-order for a $60 game I would be buying anyway. Good deal.
