I'm sure this will rapidly degenerate into a fanboy flamewar, but nonetheless it's interesting to see how console sales are going.
Microsoft Has Sold 70 Million Xbox 360 Units
Microsoft has announced that 70 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold as of September 30, 2012. The successful console, which launched in November 2005, has brought about many innovations to the gaming industry like the fantastic social networking service Xbox Live and the interactive Kinect peripheral that makes you the controller.
The Xbox 360 has led console sales for months now, and will probably continue to do so thanks the steady release of console exclusive titles like Forza Horizon and Halo 4, but year-over-year MS has actually seen a decline in Xbox 360 revenue and shipped units.
All things considered, lifetime Sony PlayStation 3 sales weren't too far behind the Xbox 360, at 63.9 million units sold as of March 31, 2012. The family friendly Nintendo Wii, which released in November 2006, a year after the Xbox 360, has already surpassed both consoles, reaching sales of 96.56 million units as of June 30, 2012. We'll have to see if things shake up once Nintendo's new console, the Wii U releases on November 18, 2012.

There will always be revenue generated in XBOX 360 sales. Why might you say. Because they break every 2 to 3 years. I've already went through two and I'm on my third.

You know, stuff like this always makes me wonder what it is I'm doing so much better than everyone else. I had my first box RRoD, but I'm willing to bet that my friend dumping it down a staircase had a lot more to do with that then any manufacturer problems. And my second has lasted........5 years now? 6?

All of mine have suffered the red ring of death. I always keep my electronics it great condition but my Xbox's for some reason don't like to last very long. I got one of the new ones, so hopefully it will last me till the new generation comes out

I was able to squeeze another 2 years out of my launch PS3 but it finally ylod again. It's up in the air on whether I get another one. I do have a backup but the little woman uses it and not in the man cave. I think this one is ready to crap out as well. I think hardware has been a pain for consumers on both sides of the house... If I do get another, its not going to be the new one, that just came out.

All things considered I hope that GamerTags, Score, and XBOX 360 games can be played on the next gen console. I have so much money invested into my XBOX that if it didn't I would flip the fuck out lol... I have only been through 3 xbox's first was the RRoD, second I sold to a good friend for 20$ because I wanted the new 250gb black one lol...

I bet it's ran across their mind, after all their main objective is to empty our wallets.. Sony took PS2 compatibility away. But really I would think Sony would be more prone to do something like this than Microsoft..

Yeah XBOX would be dead to me if they didn't... I am thinking by early 2014 we'll have new systems in work or here.

Yep... I have a shitload invested in DLC and hardware. That is the bad thing about consoles... they can fuck you in a heartbeat.

I can understand if the device was being used for long periods of time through out the week but I probably max out at 10 to 12 hours a week on my XBOX. There should be no reason why it shouldn't last...FOREVER lol

I went through several of the original 360, rrod when it was well taken care of. Got a refurbished one off ebay and it worked for a few years and the disc drive crapped out eventually. Never had an issue with a new slim console though. They are built much better.

Mine RROD'd when it was hit by lightning, but Microsoft fixed it cause it was under warranty. Never had another problem with it. However, I don't know if I will get the new Xbox when it comes out, even if it has backwards compatibility (if it doesn't, I'm out). I'm going to build myself a nice PC soon, so I'll probably start gaming more on that. Don't really know what my plans are.

Meh, PC games for the most part now whoop console ass when it comes to graphics, but in the multiplayer FPS arena, you're constantly having to deal with script kiddies. The mouse will always be ahead of the cat in that regard, and sometimes it can really ruin it when you just want to sit down and play a couple rounds to blow off some steam. I'm personally torn every time a FPS comes out that I want to buy, do I get the console version with compromised graphics and controls, or do I get the much more eye-pleasing PC version, with more familiar controls, but have to deal with asshats who can't play by the rules?
That's why I'd like to see the next gen consoles already, so we can get the stellar graphics at least....

Well I har never had problems with my Xbox s . My original Xbox I bought on launch day back in NOV 2005 lol is now with my brother. I played it all the time and That thing went from Indiana, Cali ,Iraq ,Japan and shipped it from Hawaii to Florida and now he uses it 10-12 hours a day lol. I only got rid of it due to me wanting a slim Xbox. I would keep that thing dirt free and cleaned it once a week.

When you get down to it though, the "compromised graphics" aren't that huge a difference, and the gap is only going to shrink with the next gen consoles. And as the script kiddies aren't going anywhere, I'll take the console any day.
Plus, I actually prefer the controller to the mouse/keyboard.

You're probably right about the script kiddies. Graphics will narrow with the next console releases, and then widen again the further away from console launch we get.
I do not prefer a controller to a keyboard/mouse, but that's a huge area of personal preference. I guess the reason I'm going to move back to PC gaming is because:
1) I have less and less time every year to play games
2) I need a powerful machine for all the work I do, and mine as well have a gaming machine while I'm at it
3) I'm a super-nerd and just love playing and having the latest technology
Those reasons are going to be very different for others, though.

Well the consoles can't support multi-displays. Even though it costs more the level of immersion for PC is much greater. The only bad thing about consoles is that you can't change the hardware or improve the hardware. I think PC is able to get those extra perks that you will never get with consoles. Also if you want a controller ... you can use your xbox controller. Honestly it's tough to compare the two as each one has it's pro's and or cons and shine in different areas. It's really about user preference.

Yup these consoles are really long in the tooth. They've been out for an incredibly long time, and when the new ones come out, I'd imagine they will make me forget about my PC's specs.

I'm always going to have a console. I spend more time on a console than I do on a comp. I still can't do the whole keyboard thing when it comes to moving around and shooting and yes I do know you can use a controllers for most FPS games. I just don't want to spend a bunch a money to have great graphics and so forth. To be hones, having what the 360 has is to much for me anyway. To have more graphics than it has now, would be even more than what I need

I just thought of something...the HALO titles are likely to continue being Xbox-exclusive, so I guess I'll have to pick up the next Xbox just to play it. Oh well.
