Anyway, Arkham Asylum was the breakaway hit of 2009, and is marked as arguably the first Batman game in over a decade that really, truly, kicked ass and actually served as a positive representation of the Dark Knight. It's sequel, Arkham City, was largely accepted as a successful improvement to the first one....though there was a lot of complaints as to the ending of the story.
Now, and this should be enough to make any fanboy squee in happiness, a third offering by Rocksteady has been released, though very few specifics have been thrown out. The as-yet unnamed "sequel" to Arkham City will take Bats back in time to DC's Silver Age, and center on his first meeting with everyone's favorite clown, the Joker.
The reason for this....wait, why does there need to be a reason, this is fucking epic!!......well, the reason may be slightly less epic. Or, it may make this game that much more awesome. Anyway, the reason Warner Bros. has Rocksteady turning back the hands of time, is because along with the first encounter between Batman and Joker, the purpose behind this Silver Age odyssey is to introduce the various members of the Justice League, with whom Batman teamed up throughout this 14 year stretch of comic lore, eventually resulting in the formation of the JL.
Now, personally I'm not so enthused about this...mostly because it's a solid game franchise already with a winning formula. It obviously could use some minor improvements and the obvious upgrades and enhancements that come from a continuing franchise, but I think using it as marketing for the Justice League movie is pretty lame. I mean, Combat mode as Superman or Wonder Woman? Yeah, not even remotely interested.
But, we'll see how it works out as more information is released.
