Yeah, this is looking pretty nasty so far. It's most likely going to force my company to refigure my team's work load for next week, since we were working out of an area of PA that will be affected.

Just reminding everyone in Sandy's line of sight to stay safe. They're still calling for possible snow here on Tuesday on top of everything else. The mountains to our east are looking at blizzard warnings.

Got an email from my chief today saying that our unit is being activated to head up relief/support for affected areas. Not that I don't want to help, I'm just wondering why they didn't task the guard/ANG for this?
Either way, it will be nice to be back on orders.

The wind is keeping me up too Toby. That and being sick cant stand laying down so long while congested. Just watching the news and cringing when I hear that freight train coming down the street. Brings back flashbacks of the days I lived on the shore weathering these storms in a 100 year old swaying house. God I don't miss that.

Well, I'm still alive lol, we never lost power where I live. I'm way up on the Upper West side of Manhattan, we got a shitload of wind. Couple windows shattered, some tree branches snapped and smashed a few cars. I took a walk around my neighborhood last night around midnight, preparing for the worst, even brought the emergency medic pack and my 12 inch Becker Tac-Tool with me just in case. Luckily for us up here there was no real danger. She barked at us, didn't bite. Now the Lower East side is a different story....

Oh, yes Toby 90% of Long Island is without power and will be for a while. 866,000 residents on Long Island alone powerless!!! Of coarse my work has power!! The ghettos of Brooklyn go unscathed as lower Manhattan, Long Island, NJ, PA got crushed

Doesn't look too bad. You should be able to just buff that right out good as new. lol
Also finally got power back on. It had to happen right in the middle of a KC match with Fallen and his buds. And I was actually doing good in that match too. No really I was.

Here's the biggest question. Where are all the other nations that we helped when they went through a natural disaster? I mean...it only seems fair that with all the money we donated to them, that it would only be fair they would send money to us to help get our area's back up to par. Am I right or am I right. Just saying

No matter how much good will we build by helping other countries, our media and the propaganda machines in other countries will always paint us as the bully or world police. They don't care that we help far more than we hurt. If a soldier or marine saves the life of a child in Afghanistan, his name will never be remembered, but if some marines piss on an insurgents corpse, that gets around the clock coverage. Half of our civilians think we are uneducated thugs and criminals. Nevermind all the good things our boys and girls in uniform do. Lets focus on the few questionable decisions that a select few made. If our country is retarded enough to elect Obama to a second term, they deserve exactly what they get.

Same here we still havent rebuilt places that were hit from Katrina and that was eight years ago and we have already built Haiti. Here we are spending money for everybody elses benefit but we cut money on education anf other essiential areas.

Do you think that maybe we as Americans and other countries view us as too strong and powerful to want to ask for help from ourselves or other countries when a disaster strikes? I mean think about the mentality that "we" have as Americans. I say that in reference to majority of the population.
Asking or accepting help from others, in our culture, is seen as a sign of weakness because we cant take care of ourselves. Since our culture is so focused on being an individual and looking out for #1, we help other countries to make us look better, stronger, wealthier, etc...
Personally, accepting help, (as we all pretty much know from being in any branch of military) is a necessity! You cant do anything in the military without the help of the man/woman standing next to you. And the type of comradery that is formed is unmatched in any other profession. Unfortunately, we as military members, only account for about 1% of the population and that help experience is not understood.
My solution, ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE! Then see who is willing to accept the help of others.

You're right in many ways. I do see it as a sign of weakness if we take aid from other countries but when our own government neglects our own community in rebuilding areas struck by a disaster in a timely manner. Than that my friend is what really pisses me off. If we invested half of what we put forth to other countrie; like our schooling system, roads, local towns, ghettos, and other parts of America that need funds, we could eliminate all the bs that people complain about. I don't know about you, but I get really annoyed when people complain about this and that in their community cause its jacked up. I feel really sorry for our areas that got hit by the hurricane. Especially those who have felt the wrath of Hurricane Katrina. Who is still under repair. How long has it been now? Doesn't even matter cause the area still isn't up to par
I bet you this. If we took all the money we invested to Pakistan (and just Pakistan) in their fight to abolish terrorism and put it into all the area's in America that have been hit severely by a natural disaster. Those places would look like nothing would have happened if that money was invested to rebuild those areas.

There were several celebrities doing one fundraiser that I got to see. Springsteen, Bon Jovi an John Stewart I think it was. I grew up the majority of my life just 3 miles off the shore. If I hadn't been BRACd last year I would still have been at Ft Monmouth. My brother is still there and luckily didn't get damaged but the house I still have there has some minor damage. The places I used to go, everything I loved and grew up with is gone. It just brings me to tears every time I think of it.
It does truly piss me off how we always run to help other countries yet give out measly handouts to our own relying more on our own people to pull ourselves up and dust ourselves off when our govt should be providing more of that assistance. It really is baffling how we can't take a step back and say whoa, we need to take care of our own before we can take care of others.
