Hello Fellow service members,
i come to you all and i have a serious question. i am generally a light drinker and i have been using this year to experiment and trying to find alcohol that i can drink and get nice ad tipsy without wasting that much time on shitty tasting shots. being a lightweight i have generally stayed away from the heavier liquors and stronger drinks for fear that i would get sick. i have tried a gentlemen jack and coke and that did make me sick but i bought some Jamesons special reserve the other day and i was extremely surprised at how smoothly it went down and how well it worked. my question is this: what are some other drinks that have a decent taste without being disgusting.
Ooh to the Rah!!

Crown = Dr. pepper, and Jack = Coke. So whatever soda you like to mix with, go with the preferred.

Hell yeah...Crown is some fine stuff!!! I am going to go 2morrow and get me some. It's been a while since Crown and I have spent some time together. :D
Does no one drink whiskey straight anymore? Wimps  . Just kidding. Crown does go down smooth and I would have to say it's one of my favorites of all that have been named which I've drank them all extensively since I was a young age. :D Sadly I have not drank much of anything since I got put on blood thinners for a blood clot I got a few months back because it screws with the medicines levels causing it to go high. I have to give blood every couple weeks to monitor the levels to insure it's not too high and cause me to start bleeding internally.

Southern Comfort
Black Label.
Straight.
or with a splash of coke.
In my hayday i could drink a fifth of soco black in one sitting. that would probably put me down for the count now. but i refuse to drink that girly white label stuff.
go with Jim Beam: Black,
very smooth and tasty all by itself, in a shot, or a shallow glass with ice.

Try a single barrel aged 8 to 10 years of bourban Knob Creek, Bookers, single barrel Jack, and I could go for ever. Plus if your going to mix use diet coke. The artificial sweetner transports the ETOH over the blood brain barrier quicker, this way you can hit the floor quicker. I would also advise you drink a glass of water for every 2 to 3 drinks and remember the liver can only process .02 of you blood alchol level evey hour. So if if take you 2 to 3 drinks to DUI .08% then this will take the body 4 hours to process all the ETOH out. Happy drinking.

Just trying to help sorry I can a a little to medical sometimes but that what i do for living now. Plus as you get older I found it easyer to get drunk quicker and then go to bed. Hangovers are hell starting in your late 30 and become worst in your mid 40's. I scared of what they will be in my 50's.

I picked up a bottle of this tonight as a "I survived the work week" gift to myself. It was between that and Crown Royal Black, but the Jim Beam was a little cheaper. I'm impressed with it. Jim Beam isn't bad, but kind of middle of the road for the most part. This, however, was really smooth and the taste was very surprising. Good recommendation!

2 words: Absolut RipIt (will disolve your stomach lining though)
I rarely drink hard liquer, and usually regret my decsion when i do. Stick to beer, it is delicious and nutricious. Switch to fancy imports if your in a hurry to get tipsy, way more alcohol (I likes New Belgium Fat Tire)
Johnnie Walker Black or Gold Scotch/Whisky which ever I can afford at the time  , and Maker's Mark are my choices.

Want to resurrect this thread so we can share our thoughts on good whiskey. Irish, Scotch...doesn't matter. If it's good share it, if it's bad prevent your bro (or Sis) from drinking it. Right now I've got a glass of The Dalmore, 12yr old on the rocks (never more than 2) it's fantastic

Well, scotch isn't whiskey. It's whisky and it comes from Scotland. :) Don't get them confused. Glen Morangie is my favorite single malt. No ice in a single malt for me. Ruins the flavor. I'll drink whiskey on the rocks though. I don't drink blended scotch, only single malt.

Lagavulin 16 is my favorite.
Had a whole bunch of great whiskey a couple weekends ago. My cousin opened a whiskey bar in Detroit (Thomas Magees if any of you guys are ever in the D and need a watering hole or excellent sports bar) and knows all about whiskey. He kept feeding me some mini-shots of all kinds of great stuff. I'll have to ask him what was what; there were some real gems in there.

LOL that was a damn autocorrect, believe me I have had many an argument over the spelling. I'm not a fan of blended whisky, its just not the same, call me a snob I don't care lol. I'm ok with the ice, there are many who say that water opens up the flavors in the scotch, however I think anything older than a 12 needs to be neat.
Back when I was a drinking man, I would constantly indulge myself with some Jameson's, jack Daniels, and gentlemens jack.

Oh, I'm totally a snob when it comes to single malt. I do sometimes add just a touch of water to cut the alcohol and bring the flavor forward. One year for my birthday three different friends give me bottles of scotch. At 10 yr, 12 yr and 18 yr old. I did a little taste test late in the evening for my closest, and less scotch educated, friends to show them the difference aging makes and to show them why it was BS that my wealthy friend bought me the cheapest bottle of scotch. :)

You want to try something different try Glenmorangie Quinta Rubian. Aged 10 years in white oak barrels and then finished for an additional two years in Portuguese port casks. Very good. Unique flavor. It is my current favorite. Mardi any of the Glens are good. Be sure and get the Dalmore in at least a 12 year old.

Had Weller's, Yamazake, and Grand Traverse Rye when I was back in Detroit, according to the cousin. In the past, if someone offers to buy me a shot and they insist on whiskey, I usually head off the default Jamo suggestion and ask for some Tullamore Dew, which is ok. Not the best, but better than Jamo.
One of the ones I tried that weekend was so damn smooth, "buttery" actually really applied for once. I can't remember which though, although I'm sure it wasn't the Yamazake. There were a bunch of others too, but I can't remember what they were.

Did you really just say it was too smooth? :) The hallmark of better scotches? To each his own. But, as was said..everyone has their own tastes. Maker's Mark is a bourbon and not really to my taste, if I have a choice between the two. But, it is a perfectly good bourbon. Actually Dalmore is not one of my favorite scotches either.

I'll have to grab some next time I need a refill

If your tastes run more to the sweet, or you just want to try something different, you should try Glayva. It is a liqueur made from single malt scotch. It is made in Edinburgh, Scotland. They don't sell it in my state, so I rarely find a bottle, but I like it.

I recently started to enjoy this about two years ago.
My taste for grand marnier has been put to the side.
I've been getting way to jacked drinking it so I had to switch to something else.
I was drinking Jim for a while but i realized i was a angry person when I become intoxicated

Just kidding. I like smokey. I like smokey and smooth better, which is what I love so much about Lagavulin 16. I wouldn't choose it if I was having a few drinks chained together. I'm a sipper with hard liquor. A bottle will last a looooooong time and it's extremely rare I'll have more than a couple ounces on any night. I can see it being a bit overbearing if you're drinking a bunch of it in one sitting though.

I think I am still wanted in Valdosta. I used to travel down there with a buddy from GA to steal watermelons from the Sheriff's farm. We'd get some shine, some everclear, spend all our money (doing things I won't speak of) and trade the watermelons for gas all the way back to NC. Always in time for morning Formation on Mondays. And of course the left over melons we used as mixers. Just cut a hole in the side and pour the shine in. What a great late afternoon refreshment on those summer days in the barracks. Oh yes that was in the days before the barracks had rooms or A/C.... YOU YOUNG FUCKS!

If I'm drinking at home a light mix of Captain Morgan 1671 and either Root Beer or DP is my go to. At the bar there is a drink called a Jolly Rancher, it's nothing but alcohol but if they make it right it tastes just like you're drinking the candy. It's a delayed effect drink so don't slam 3 or 4 tall glasses thinking nothing is happening. You get a nice buzz from a couple of those.
