I'd suggest using the VFW and DAV. Also, make sure you gave documentation verifying your injuries, and be leery of accepting their initial offer.

You should also have as many people as are aware of your medical problems write letters in support of your claim to the VA... Helped me tremendously I went from 0%-60% in 2 years my appealing....

For an evaluation that's semi-normal. Depends on what you told them was the issue. When I went in, I did x-rays and some flex and mobility checks.

Each claimed injury has its own rating, from 10-100 in 10's. This contributes to your cumulative disability rating, which is what your compensation is based on.....up to 100%.

I hope this link helps.... I would send the page from the official CFR but it is pretty complicated... try this.

The way it is figured... is the highest disability is taken from your starting percent of 100.... in your case 10%.... that leaves you 90% (total health) so your next 10% would count as 9% actually.... and so on... confusing? F%$# yes.... The calculator helps.

I wanted to add Pilot, that this is your initial rating from the VA PIRATES.... now see a VSO (Veteran Service Officer) as discribed in previous posts. They will be able to increase your claim.
The VA always rates low. If you have more questions contact me, I will give you my phone number if it is easier to explain outside the forum posts...

Once I'm done getting a letter from my doctor I'll be a pirate haha but my vso was telling me that I need to get a letter from my doctor with specific wording which will increase all four ratings

Yep, the 'specific' wording..... "it is as likely as, as not, a result of....." That statement is right from the CFR-38 (VA Ratings Manual/Order.

I don't have much time to elaborate right now... I will get on later tonight and explain (or show some examples). I don't want to know what you are putting in for an increase, at least in the forum, but hopefully some of the example approaches will help.

I was going to type a long winded response here but, I found a good website for examples of statements from, Friends, Family, and Doctors that you can use. There are about 5 or 6 medical statements for Doctors on the opening page, which can be added to your VA Form 21-4138 (narrative) Statement in support of the claim.
Check out the sample letters at the bottom of the site for your parents statements.......
And Please, tell me you have representation on this... I think both I and jxspyder emphasized this.

Pilot, I have a whole page of notes to send you, once I get them organized. I will be sending you a series of questions to better understand everything. Stick with you County VA Rep. Some are good and others.... So I will be just giving you the ammunition to get the most out of the claim.
What I understand from the posts here is a bi-lateral knee issue, and 4 ratings of 10% each.
