Premium PSN to be Unveiled at E3

Sony may finally be ready to make a little more cash from its PlayStation Network, with rumors that the PlayStation 3 maker will introduce a "premium" option at this year's E3 popping up weeks before the big video game expo.

According to a report from VG247, one part of Sony's E3 showing will focus on a paid version of its PlayStation Network. Premium class subscribers are said to get access to a free PSN game per month and a streaming music services, presumably among other services, for "less than £50 per year," or under $70 USD.

Those details sound in line with a survey that Sony sent out last year gauging interest in a paid version of its PlayStation Network. The pricing for the majority of those options was also inline with this latest rumor.

Would you pay? If so, what do you want for you money?

That's a negative, ghost rider. I'm happy with the free play on the network right now, and I seriously doubt they'll come out with enough "premium" goodies to warrant my hard earned $$.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

As long as they don't take anything from what they currently offer for free they can do whatever they want. And a free PSN game a month? at an average of $10 a game for 12 months that would pay for the $70ish dollar's a year but do you get to pick the game or is it their pick of 1 game a month....

Eh... regardless they better come out with something AWESOME if they expect me to pay for something I currently enjoy for free. $60 a month was a BIG reason I moved away from the 360 and towards the PS3 in the 1st place.

On this side or the other, we will meet once again.

Ok, why would you want to pay for a service that you are currently getting for free? I'll stay with FREE!!

Re: Premium PSN to be Unveiled at E3

as expected, they released the info on their premium service

here's everything i can remember that they said about PSN Plus:
    • $49.99 for 1 year[/*:mt9xy2mm]
    • $17.99 for 3 months[/*:mt9xy2mm]
    • Qore included[/*:mt9xy2mm]
    • exclusive or early access to demos and betas[/*:mt9xy2mm]
    • auto downloading feature for patches and updates[/*:mt9xy2mm]
    • free games, themes, and avatars[/*:mt9xy2mm]
    • PSN store discounts[/*:mt9xy2mm]
    • available starting later this month[/*:mt9xy2mm]

they said something about a free 3 months for a limited time so it's probably a launch incentive to get people on board. The games you get in July will be Wipeout HD, Field Runners, Age of Zombies, Rallycross (PSone game), and a demo for InFamous 2.

so lets total that up.... wipeout costs $20....Rallycross is probably around $5, AoZ is probably $3...never heard of Field Runners...$2? so $17.99 will get you 6 months of service plus around $30 in games? $17.99<$30 so even if the rewards slow down in the future, getting on board for launch would pay for itself with content, then you could drop it after the 6 months is up if it starts to suck

don't worry River, i'm not completely sold on it either yet, i was just looking at it from a financial standpoint. For me personally, i already have Wipeout HD so the gain is not as much and i'm broke anyways but for someone that does not have those games and planned on getting them anyways, it's without a doubt the best bang for your buck

Re: Premium PSN to be Unveiled at E3

now that i'm actually on the PSN store i did a recalculation of the value of the content you'd get with getting on board for the first six months (3 months paid plus the 3 bonus months) just for our general knowledge

    age of zombies........................................4.99
    field runners...........................................6.99
    rallycross...............................................5.99
    Wipeout HD..........................................19.99
    Qore (6 months).....................................15.99

    total in content......................................53.95
price of PSN plus (3 months paid+3 free).........17.99

    total potential gain..................................35.96

so if you are considering trying out this service, i'd highly recommend jumping on board early on, especially if you don't have any of the bonus games because as of right now Sony would be putting money in your pocket.

PS Blog has some more info and now i see the catch.

You have access to your free games for as long as you are a subscriber. So if you choose to discontinue service you no longer have the free games....

they also say they will be continually be adding new features so we shall see what that includes
