    USAF adds 3000 Cyber Warriors

The U.S. Air Force already made a sizable push in November of last year by establishing a new cyberspace operations division with no less than 27,000 officers, and it looks like it's now further bolstered their ranks by promoting some 3,000 communications officers to the rank of "cyberspace officer." That new title also comes complete with the impressive-looking badge pictured above, not to mention a full 115 days of additional training that promises to "raise the bar on technical competency." Hax0rs, beware.

Army Forces Cyber Command Headquarters Standup Plan Announced

The Army announced today that it intends to establish a
new Army Forces Cyber Command (ARFORCYBER) Headquarters within the
National Capital Region, no later than October 2010.

Army Forces Cyber Command, the Army's component to U.S.
Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM), capitalizes on existing Army cyber
resources, and achieves efficiencies by bringing cyber resources under a
single command. The U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command/9th
Signal Command (Army) and portions of the 1st Information Operations
Command (Land) will be subordinate units to ARFORCYBER. Additionally,
the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command will be under the
operational control of ARFORCYBER for cyber-related actions.

Army Forces Cyber Command will bring unprecedented unity
of effort and synchronization of Army forces operating within the cyber
domain, and will integrate full spectrum cyberspace operations for the
    Army.

The total command strength will exceed 21,000 soldiers
and civilians, and there will be no new growth or impact to Army end
strength. The cost to establish ARFORCYBER will be funded from within
    existing fiscal resources.

The Army is on track to meet full operational capability
for ARFORCYBER in October 2010. Effective October 1, 2009, the Army
achieved initial operating capability by utilizing the Army Space and
Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command as the interim
ARFORCYBER Headquarters, with support from U.S. Army Network Enterprise
Technology Command/9th Signal Command (Army), the 1st Information
Operations Command (Land), and U.S. Army Intelligence and Security
    Command.

    IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 419-10
    May 21, 2010
    ________________________________

DOD Announces First U.S. Cyber Command and First U.S. CYBERCOM Commander

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today Army
Gen. Keith B. Alexander's appointment as the first U.S. Cyber Command
commander, officially establishing the initial operating capability for
the new command. The announcement comes immediately following
Alexander's promotion to receive his fourth star during a ceremony at
    Fort Meade, Md., today.

"Given our increasing dependency on cyberspace, this new
command will bring together the resources of the department to address
vulnerabilities and meet the ever-growing array of cyber threats to our
    military systems," said Gates.

U.S. Cyber Command possesses the required technical
capability and focuses on the integration of military cyberspace
operations. The command is charged with pulling together existing
cyberspace resources, creating synergy that does not currently exist and
synchronizing war-fighting effects to defend the DoD information
security environment. This is not an expansion of DoD's mission. It is
in keeping with the department's mission to protect and defend U.S.
national security and protect the lives of men and women in uniform.

U.S. Cyber Command is a sub-unified command, subordinate to
U.S. Strategic Command. Its headquarters is currently located at Fort
Meade, Md. The Senate confirmed Alexander's promotion to become
commander of the new sub-unified command, U.S. Cyber Command on May 7.
