Completed mine a few days ago, I think you and I are the only ones that pre-registered. This deal for free one yr subscription and game is no longer available.

We'll have go through the games when they activate everything and see if we can pick a free game that we both like and can play together.

    Re: ON LIVE

i would have liked to try this out but, even though they say min specs for PC are low, i know this craptastic computer i have here wouldn't be able to handle it. Especially since it said only HD will be available at launch. This damn thing can't even handle HD youtube videos

I would have gone with the TV version but i'm too poor to afford the equipment i imagine :?

oh well. It sounds like it's going to be a pretty decent service though, i'm interested to see how well it does and if it changes the way we play games

Gaming is staying up 'til 3am to earn a trophy that isn't real.......BUT IS

    Re: ON LIVE

from my understanding, it is a similar concept to Gametap, only better. On the PC/MAC side of things, games can be streamed through this program via your internet connection almost as though you were playing a flash game. It just loads up and you're ready to go. For the TV variation you would hook a special console up to your tv and router so that the console can connect and stream games from on live. I know there is a lot more to it and i may not have explained it exactly right but that is the basic idea i gather

oh another example just came to me. You know how some hotels have video games on demand? you put the tv on a special channel and use that modified controller to select a game and play it without ever actually having to get a disk or cartridge and insert it into the system, it just streams through the hotel's network. Same concept here i think, just on a much larger scale

Gaming is staying up 'til 3am to earn a trophy that isn't real.......BUT IS

    Re: ON LIVE

Basically you can play any game like Crysis, BC2, AC2, and a lot of other games at PC max settings but it is all running on a dedicated server and streaming to your PC so your PC barely has to use any processor/graphics power. You need to have at least 2.5Mb connection to run at 480p standard graphics and 5 Mb for 720p HD graphics. I'm hoping it turns out good but if it doesn't I at least have it free for a year. Their fee is $14.95 a month and whatever you pay for the game. I would never pay that unless it works perfectly and flawlessly. Hopefully the games you so call purchase that you never really get anything digitally or physically on your end, because everything is run from servers, is way way cheaper than if you bought a disc or from steam because if this company tanks you would have nothing to show for it. Again I'm glad I got a 1yr free subscription and a free game to try it out first and see how they do.

I'm hoping that since everything is done on servers and the only thing that is done on the customer end is just commands to control your character that lag switching and other cheating will be eliminated. Because if the complete game program is running on the servers only and you lag that connection using a lag switch it won't get your commands to move the character so it will just freeze until you reconnect. Unlike where if the game is running on your PC and you lag switch you can still move your character in the game world on your PC so when you connect back on the servers your character seems to have teleported to others when your PC and the servers re-sync.

Alright, thank you Cajun and Max. I think this is a great idea, I am just not sure how good the service will actually be. I think I will check it out at least for a month to see how it is.

Yeah thats the consensus!!! I am a bit skeptical, because if it worx as well as they imagine it can...........Goodbye Consoles for sure..........The only problem I really See them having is getting the Developers to roll with them, so I see a limited amount of games until the Developers jump on board....

I highly doubt consoles wil ever leave, Developers will still need them to make their money. I really think that none of the "Blockbuster" titles will be available on there, at least not until they are outdated, the developers want to make their money from the store shelves, not through a system like this. Unless of course the price is $60 per game on this system, which will make it less attractive for most people.

    Re: ON LIVE

Not Necessarily true, The Reason Developers Charge $60 is mostly due to the Amount of money that the Consoles loose on selling us the Hardware. The 360, and PS3 Have thousands of dollars worth of Technology in them which they sell to the consumer at a very large discounted rate. You can look it up on Google, for the most part its a 50-50 split, the Dev team gets $30 per game and the Console $30 per game. That helps them re-coop a lot of the loss in the Development of Console price. However I do agree that we will have to see what developers and which titles they release..............

Sounds and looks cool. I'm with Maximus though. I'm in dire need of a new PC and not sure if it would even run okay on mine. I understand the concept and I think I'd be okay since my broadband here is pretty good and stable but I'd like to see post-E3 reviews. Keep us in the loop Rook' and let us know what you think.
