    Fishing tips

Alright I love to fish but pretty much completely suck at it . Don't get me wrong I can catch the hell out of some brim. Brim suck though I want to catch bass or catfish. I don't know if any of you are pretty good and could lend some tips out or sites or youtube videos that might be of interest to me about the subject. I am on a mission to catch on of those OMG I need a picture of this fish. Last night I went fishing with a buddy and he almost caught a huge catfish. I say almost because right as he was about to put it on the boat the line broke. For some reason I can never get this lucky. I think I have caught one bass that I can recall and it wasn't impressive at all in size. I have bought a lot of fishing gear, rigs, dead shad, catfish dough bait. Nothing seems to work from me. So I figured I would ask for some HELP!!!

P.S. This is just river fishing from a boat or from the land. And I hate brim they are just easy to catch garbage fish .

For bass I've always had luck with top water lures (especially a frog) and rubber worms Texas rigged. I haven't fished for Catfish that much.

    Re: Fishing tips

When it comes to big bass, the best luck I have had was with muskie lures. I will usually catch 2 or 3 bass over 5lb when I am muskie fishing. The funny thing is, when I go bass fishing, I catch alot of fish, but they are all 1-2lbs...go figure. I love top water fishing for bass, but I also will go with Tracker's worm method. It depends on what the fish are doing that day.

As for catfish, here in Illinois the only way to go is with live shad, or freshly cut up shad. We have some luck with dough bait in the rivers, but shad is still better.

I wish there was some really good advice I could give you for catching big fish, but the best I have found is fish as much as you can. Eventually a big one will come by ! And no, I am not a professional fisherman, but I have won a couple small muskie and bass tournaments  ! I have fished with some pros, and the good ones can get you in fish, but that doesn't mean the fish will cooperate .

    Have fun and good luck!

generally, I like to use a shopping cart and my wallet. I walk to the back of Publix and make a selection then I go and pay for it.

Dbg...have you ever tried jug or trot line fishing??? I don't know if it is legal in your area (Cause it is'nt here in NY ) but, it could be worth a try for you. Actually there isn't going to be much fishing at all in the lake I live on. They are talking about Red Flagging the lake because of the VHS (Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia) disease. It has pretty much killed the majority of the Rock Bass and Perch. Here is a link about VHS http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/25328.html

    Re: Fishing tips

Thanks for the tips guys. Squid thanks for being a smartass :x j/k.

25th I don't think it is illegal, or at least I have heard of people doing here and didn't hear them say that it was. I actually never have tried jug fishing personally but might have to give it a shot. I have tried the drop shot set up which I guess is kind of the same thing. I am just on a mission this summer to catch a fish I would be proud of. I am going to probably try some chicken liver next time I go out. I heard that is usually a sure thing with the catfish here. The dead shad that I have are almost petrified now after baking in the car and don't think they will work now.

My buddy had a bag full of dry ice and thought about trying that but decided against it for some reason. I don't think it would of worked to well though.

We used to always go out and watch when they sunk ships for artificial reefs. The concussion from the charges always sent a ton of stunned fish to the surface. They called it "towel fishing" when all the guys would dive in with their towels and scoop up the fish.
