i can't remember where it was now but i recall going to a restaurant where they actually had it listed on the dessert menu as "Cream Cheese Pie" and i felt much more satisfied with it

also, just for our general pie knowledge, a cheesecake is a pie because of two major characteristics:

a pie is prepared and baked in a crust. Cake does not have a crust unless it was placed in the crust after preparation for aesthetic value

a cake rises while being cooked, whereas a pie does not
