May also be known as Droid 2

I've been wanting to get an android phone. Recently tried to upgrade to a Droid Incredible but got turned down. So I'm waiting until october. This should be out by then. But this phone looks sooo big.
Ok I have been considering leaving AT&T and possibly getting a family plan with my wife over at verizon. What are the best phones over in that company? I like smartphone with internet and lot of functions. I currently have the iphone and want something comparable to that. Give me some ideas if you have verizon and I will consider them. Thanks.
i've gotten to play around with this one a bit when one of my friends got it and i liked it, i think it's just called a Droid, no special name. i'd say go into a verizon store and play with all the phones first. I always do that, i go in and see how it feels, see if i like the sizing and placement of buttons, see how well i can text, things like that.
Gaming is staying up 'til 3am to earn a trophy that isn't real.......BUT IS

If you want comparable to iPhone, I would stick with something that is Android based. The Android Marketplace is ever expanding with lots of free apps and backed by Google. Personally, I would not settle for a Blackberry, but thats me.
The old Motorola Droids are pretty cheap now if you go through a reseller rather than Verizon direct ($20 with new contract at places like letstalk.com and wirefly.com). These phones are seem to be pretty solid and reliable all around and have a full slideout QWERTY keyboard. But they are well...old.
Verizons current flagship is the HTC Droid Incredible. Way better specs than the Droid and features HTCs 'Sense' user interface which alot of users say is significantly better than the standard android interface. However this phone lacks a physical keyboard. Theres also been some issues related the touchscreen and battery life. This phone is most similar to Sprints EVO 4G and Googles Nexus One.
And then theres the Droid X which is coming soon to Verizon.
You can see all three of these at http://phones.verizonwireless.com/droid/x/
http://www.engadget.com/ is also a good spot for mobile device reviews and what not.
Unfortunately I don't think anything else will match to the engineering and quality put into an iPhone. However the Android platform has a lot of potential and is more "open" than iOS.
Wow, thanks for the feedback guys. Those are a lot of options, lol. I like to look online first mainly because the employees at the store are more interested in their commission then what phone you get. I don't know if you guys have seen this site http://www.phonedog.com? I just found it and they seem to have some good reviews and will do video reviews of some phones. I will look around some more and when I pinpoint it down to about three different option then I will look in store.
The best phones to own right now for Android are the Incredible (CDMA Verizon) and the N1(GSM and Google's own baby, meaning it gets everything useful and cool first), and the Evo 4G (gimmicky for Sprint CDMA).Originally Posted by Bleubeardz
The Droid X will be the equivalent in performance to the recent Android flagships, but finally with a physical keyboard. I've played with one and it's ridiculous. Amazing the hardware they put in this thing and still keep it so thin considering the QWERTY....
I have owned the iPhone 2G, 3G, and 3GS, all of which I really liked but abandoned for one reason or another (can't use with gloves, dropped calls, no physical keyboard, Steve Jobs is an asshole, etc....), and I have to say I'm not at all surprised the iPhone 4 first and foremost failed at what a phone is most responsible for doing: being a phone. This is an utter failure in engineering and gives me the heebie-jeebies about their QC department.... And then for them to come out and release a statement saying they've "incorrectly interpreted" signal strength this whole time??? Really??? Are we really that gullible? I'm glad the Android market finally has a foothold and will start decreasing the fragmentation of the OS. This will help them compete on a familiarization level competitive to the iPhone finally.
And the Sense UI sucks balls. I'm sorry, but it's just manufacturer bloatware.

My war story: One time at Al Asad they ran out of steak and crab legs before I got to the chow hall. Oh the horror. Then I hit the rack. The end.
Just have to agree with everyone. Get android.
I don't agree that the EVO is Sprint gimmick though. While the sense overlay is bloatware. Every phone other than the n1 has some form. Motoblur, sense, whatever the bell Samsung calls theirs.
Now the 4g for Sprint is gimmick if you live in an area with no coverage. I have it here and it is sweet.
And while Sprint is in 3rd place. Prices can't be beat. No data limit and you roam on Verizon network. Voice and data for free. Also add in discounts. Credit union. Your job. Military Ect. And you usually find an easy way to knock at least 10% off your bill.
Size.
Like some I thought the EVO might be large. And it was at first. But after a week. There is no way in bell I would ever go back to a smaller screen. And my wife and daughter have no complaints with their evidence either.
Recommend you just read a lot of reviews for the new phones. The humingbird processor in the new Samsung supposed to scream.
