I've gotten the red ring of death twice because the 360 isn't big enough to dissipate heat, let me go pick this one up as fast as I can because I'm sure the smaller size will keep this from happening. That's sarcasm in case your not picking it up.
Don't be mad. Everything I post is "lol."
That's a roger, Roger. 10-4 on the sarcasm.Originally Posted by squidfamily1

not to mention "quiter" probably just means the fan doesn't work i.e. red ring of deathOriginally Posted by River_Rat_459

Actually I feel pretty confident that MS spent their time with improving the reliability of this console. From what I understand the CPU and GPU have been reduced down to a single chip built on 45nm process. That is down from two separate 65nm chips of the later Jasper motherboard revision, which of its self is plenty more reliable/cool running than the previous revisions. Also with a large fan right above the heatsink and a vent directly above that, I think this console will evacuate heat much more efficiently thus significantly reducing chance of RROD. Quieter doesnt mean the fan wont work; bigger fan, slower speed = quieter while remaining effective. How do you think the PS3 does it?
IMO the biggest fail of this new console is lack of blu-ray.
That being said. I still opted to buy a new Jasper arcade spring bundle rather than the new slim. Ordered yesterday. They are dirt cheap now. $150 + includes $50 gift card at walmart.com http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... 2564955079
I'm looking forward to getting back on xbox live. see you guys in game.
MS confirms that there will be a $199 configuration. Jump in.

So you may have been right squidfamily1...
The first xbox 360 slim failures have already been showing up on the internet.

I am still skeptical though. User error could have caused this. It could have been forced to RDOD (red dot of death) by simply blocking the exhaust vent. Looking at this picture also to the right of the xbox you can see a dust silhouette where the xbox could have been standing and blocking the exhaust vent. At least it now recognizes that it is overheating and shuts down to prevent further damage.
I took a look at some of the teardown photos and the interior definitely looks like a better design for heat management. The dvd drive no longer sits directly on top of the GPU. And like I stated earlier the new cpu/gpu heatsink and fan are sitting directly below a large vent.
As for the permanent damage caused to XBOXs due to overheating I blame it on this inferior lead free RoHS solder crap.
Anyway,on another note MS also dropped the warranty of the slim back down to 12 months from the 3 years extended "RROD" warranty of the older models.
All in all, best bet right now is probably to stick with the previous Jasper revision consoles. They seem to be fairly reliable and still get the 3 year warranty. And at a price of sub $150 range right now, you cant beat it.

I'd say I told you so but it seemed to obvious to brag about
