    L.A. Noire

Noire is an open-world action-adventure game set in the City of Angels in 1947. Unlike previous Rockstar efforts, L.A. Noire exists in a real city, painstakingly recreated for historical accuracy. Don't expect the "shoot everyone" mentality of a Grand Theft Auto title -- this is something completely different.

You play as Cole Phelps, a beat cop looking to clean up the streets of L.A. It won't be easy, seeing as how the L.A. police force is mired in corruption from top to bottom. Phelps has his own issues to deal with, including some very bad things he did in World War II. Though he starts low on the totem pole, over the course of L.A. Noire Phelps progresses through a series of "desks" in the department, including traffic, vice and, ultimately, homicide.

I saw this and i think i am going to like it. It seems like a "Grownup" version of GTA. I did see that it will be Multi-Platform, I did not however see anything about Multi-Player.

this sounds like it's going to be pretty good. sort of like the GodFather games as far a overall style with my favorite part from the game. Fedoras and long coats. Nothing feels more cool than playing as a cop with a fedora and long coat on

I agree Max there has always been something intriguing about the mid '40's to early '50's. I am quit excited about it.

Funniest part about that is I saw the game on IGN.com and made this thread, then I went to the Mailbox the next day and there was my Gameinformer, I got all giddy like a little kid I read the article right away. There is actually some really interesting technology that they used to make this game. I am quite impressed with how they developed it and I am pretty sure I will get this.

@jack, I dig on the Bogart.

lol knew you would, one thing bugs me about the game... it's the fact that rockstar's name is attached to it . after their track record as of late, i really don't know what to make of it yet...it's good to see that they're taking it in a different direction, instead of their usual fan fair. where all you do is run around and shoot randomly at things

After reading the article, looks like you'll be able to tell if someone's lying just by facial expressions. They may have set the bar with their method of getting the 3D mocap of the actors. Only prob I've heard is there is turmoil inhouse with the dev and Rockstar.

the turmoil was probably a phone conversation that went something like this:

Rockstar: what do you mean you're not making it gay?!

Devs: well, we wanted to do something unique and different, veer away from what is now the stereotypical sandbox action game.

Rockstar: Don't tell me you're not even calling it what we suggested, "Grand Theft Auto: The 40's" now?

Devs: Well....no...we're calling it L.A. Noire....

Rockstar: WTF?!?! how are people even going to know it exists if you dont have GTA in the title?

Dev: Well we are hoping the game speaks for itself and will be good enough that it can set new standards. It's based on a real city, that alone is somethi...

Rockstar: ok you can just stop right there. So you're telling me this is based off a real city now? i thought we already discussed this, it's supposed to be Niko Bellic falls into a time machine and ends up in Liberty City in 1945 and fights his way up to the top of the criminal ladder. What are you doing over there?

Dev: We're doing something unique here, we didn't want to make another GTA clone

Rockstar: OK NOW WE HAVE PROBLEMS. I'LL BE COMING IN PERSONALLY TO DISCUSS THIS

    Re: L.A. Noire

I can say that I had my inhibitions as well once I saw Rockstar. But after some research, I am thoroughly impressed. I can say that from what I have seen this will be the new standard, if all wrks as well as they have planned.

Just some quick facts about their production.

    1. Top of the line Sound Stage that is Sound Proof. Has 38 still Digital Cameras all filming Facial movements, while the ACTOR is reciting his/her lines. The Footage is Automatically rendered into animation through computers.
    2. 300+ actors used to film the cut scenes, and in-game characters. Everyone from Main-Character to Hotdog vendor.
    3. over 2,000 page of script (Average TV show= 50 pages, Average Movie=200 pages)
    4. Supposedly the Cut-scenes are not boring parts that you want to skip over.
    5. Re-created 1947 L.A. from Archived Newspapers, photo's, maps, Aerial Photo's.
    6. Team Bondi used Jay Leno's Car Collection as reference for most of the Vehicles in the game.
    7. Supposedly the largest Game World/City built for a video game.
    8. Sandbox, which is one of my favorite types of games, no set paths.

I'll wait and see.... but the tech specs look very promising, i really hope that rockstar doesn't botch what could be a great game.

After reading the article in GI, I think i'll be giving this one a try. Its hard to imagine a game being crap when that much time/effort/detail goes into it. Although I'm sure someone could still screw it up (rockstar being that someone)!!

    Re: L.A. Noire

thats true but... for some reason rockstar just has, that inherent ability to do just that.

Lady you are not going to be able to buy this, It is set in America and I know how racist you Welsh people are against us Yanks. Seriously though, I think it is going to be really fun, I like this genre and game type though. Granted, I don't think it will be as "exciting" as COD, but it will be fun.
