    First time for everything

and today was my first time attempting to make an omelette and hash browns. Normally i let the restaraunt take care of this task for me but today i felt like being bold and trying it on my own 8-)

what do you think, is it at least recognizable as an omelette and hash browns?

Hash browns look a little on the iffy side, but overall not bad. I would say it looks pretty good considering you had to cook it over an open fire in your shanty!

yeah hash browns didn't cook all that evenly and i almost burnt them, hence i had to scramble for the first plate i could find, which happened to be that Bill Elliot McDonalds plate

Looks well enough to me...I'd eat it (big surprise!). Just remember: Tabasco fixes everything.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Second attempt looks much better and edible.
Try turning down the heat a little bit more on the eggs. Hash browns? Like country style hash browns or McD's style hash browns? Which were you aiming for?

    Re: First time for everything

lol basically i was just going for grated potatoes, fried in butter/oil. like what you'd get at Denny's or IHOP or similar restaurants

I agree, i still need to experiment with the heat to get it right. Only my second attempt ever after all

    Re: First time for everything

i think for the most part i got it. Reduce the heat a tad and pull the eggs off sooner and i'm good. Maybe i should move on to tackling another breakfast item now?

and Hells kitchen sounds too hot for me lol. I actually have considered cooking as a profession, i'm told i'm pretty decent at it and i do enjoy cooking. My only concern is if i did it for a living it may ruin it for me. Same thing that worries me about the idea of getting into game testing/creating. I really enjoy it now but doing it for a living may take from the excitement

    Re: First time for everything

Looks really good, Max. Good job.

Wanna try something really good but not as complex? Try "Eggs in a Basket". They serve this at Cracker Barrel, but it's super easy to make at home.

Get two slices of bread (any kind) and two eggs. Use a biscuit cutter or round cookie cutter and cut a hole in the middle of each slice. Butter each side of the bread and put them on a flat skillet (or frying pan big enough to hold both slices) over medium-low heat. Carefully break open the eggs so that you can put the contents into the middle of each slice. Fry each side for just long enough the make them over-easy consistency so that the yolk will run when you cut into it. You'll have to adjust this to your personal preference of how you want it done.

Recommended sides: baked beans, bacon, and/or sausage.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

    Re: First time for everything

here it is, Max vs. Breakfast: 3rd course

i finally remembered to try out River's eggs in a basket but my only issue is i was never a fan of over easy eggs, i prefer them scrambled and fully cooked. with some cheese too

so i decided to adapt the recipe to my personal tastes. Started out with the 2 bread slices and eggs, then i also grabbed a little sliced ham, green + white onions, colby jack cheese, and a tad of salsa.

finely chopped the onions and cooked in a little butter until soft, then chopped and added in the ham and salsa. While that was cooking i cracked the eggs into a small bowl and added a little milk for fluffyness, and then salt + pepper. buttered the two slices of bread and then went looking for the cookie cutter. Of course with my luck i can't find the damn thing anywhere but i had a nice star shaped one  so i cut out cutesy little stars in my bread, dipped the stars in the egg, and threw them on the skillet. took the onions, ham, and salsa and added to the eggs and added a little shredded cheese and mixed well. Put the bread slices on the skillet and filled the star holes with the egg mixture.

end result was two pieces of toast with delicious scrambled eggs and two star shaped pieces of french toast (not pictured because i ate them right off the skillet ) I think it ended up being pretty good and although it may not look as cool as the regular eggs in a basket, it was still fun and would be a hit with the kids because of the stars and the fact that you could have it as finger foods. Just have a little syrup and dip the stars in it. the egg-toast was good enough to eat plain but you could also dip it if you wanted to
