Words that only exist in the Army

I'm sure that there are a lot more of these that exist that I would love to hear. Everytime i go to a brief that involves BN staff i hear at least 2 of these come up. Here's a few that I can remember:

    Irregardless
    disencourage
    excitingness
    reconflict
    reconfirm
    quadpolar
Orientate means "to face toward the Orient, or East"

caveat- used incorrectly all the time. supposed to mean a. A warning or caution: "A final caveat: Most experts feel that clients get unsatisfactory results when they don't specify clearly what they want" (Savvy).
    b. A qualification or explanation -- most often used in the army to precede a FRAGO

I thought being called a 'DICK' and your mouth being called a 'cock holster' was just apart of being in the Army.

weeellll I can see where that would be a problem in co-ed units, Thank God I never had to experience that. Our 97b (Counter Intel.) MI guys that would get attached to my team, would tell horror stories of PC and the drama women bring to the unit.

The word that drives me up the wall is "soonest", when used in the context of NCOERs in this manner:

    promote soonest

send to Warrior Leader Course soonest

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

My biggest peeve had always been and will continue to be, when someone takes a term like "thank you" and turns it into "T-Y" which in military speak is "Tango Yankee"..... How does that save time and become more efficient than just saying Thanks?

Same goes for; Oscar Mike, Whiskey Tango, Bravo Foxtrot....

The funniest I heard, was one of or NCO's (who was Vietnamese) asked one of his Privates if he was a "Funny ass clown." With the accent and inflection in the wrong spot, it was hilarious.

    Sent from my awesome phonalyzer....

Solderization - my favorite word on the evals i review.

    Bestest. wtf? (yet another eval)

You see all type of crazy crap come through that people write. You'd be surprised and wonder how they got to where they were with those skillz. ha

i agree on that one. and to be perfectly honest, it wasn't until playing MW2 that i really even heard anyone say Oscar Mike. Why not say "move out" or "lets move" or just "go" or "move"? that's how everyone i knew in the Marines said it. I actually never heard the term FNG prior to MW either lol, no one i knew ever said that so i had to think about it for a minute in the game to figure out what it meant

Maybe FNG is just an outdated term then. I heard my dad talking about FNGs quite a bit in my growing up Army Brat Years

Me I love the Acronyms. When we come up with new programs and they are trying to come up with names for them, it can get rather hilarious. Many good titles get shot down because of the acronyms it creates. I was shocked when they let PILSNER go thru

I think it funny when they ask me to send them Softcopy Files but they refer to them as "Electrons"

"Hey Chele, can you send me the Electrons for the Briefing we gave yesterday?"

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Before they changed it to ALC, ANCOC (Advanced Non-Comissioned Officers Course) for infantry got combined with mechanized scouts at the manuever center in Benning. They called it the Manuever Advanced Non-Comissioned Officers Course, or MANCOC.

ROFL, good thing they are both all male MOSs. I can see a number of women filling EO complaints

The only time women would bring drama to the unit is when they're looking for the attention of guys in the unit....which irritated me constantly, because I kept thinking, "Can't you just get a guy's attention the NORMAL way?"

Acronyms drive me nuts, but I couldn't help but speak and have them be a part of my vocabulary; it's insane when I talk with other wives that are civilians and they have no clue what I'm talking about when I talk in Acronyms, but I have to always remember to be patient and explain what it is....like NCOER, ARCOM, AAM, SF, WLC, BSM....and what's insane is that I write with acronyms too....THANKS Army
Hopefully I don't head to school in a few weeks writing that way....my English professor would have an absolute sh*t fit!

But other words that only exist in the Army...let's see if I can think back.... :?

I honestly think you guys just about covered it :P

comfortability (n.)--the level at which a soldier is either comfortable or uncomfortable ex. (taken from my drill instructor at Ft. Knox, during winter) "A soldier's comfortability is directly affected by his level of hydration, SO HYDRATE GOD DAMN IT!"

I thought of another one: Point of Orgin, or POO, the point where indirect fires are shot from. So 3 times a day, at random times a plt from our company would go out on POO patrols to disrupt insurgents from shooting indirect at our patrol base.
