Does God Hate Nerds More Than Stupid People?

Well the WBC is at it again. Here's a posting from GamePolitics http://www.gamepolitics.com/2010/07/...-stupid-people about the family the world hates and their attempt at gamers.

"Kotaku reports that the notorious Westboro Baptist Church (who you may know better as the "God Hates Fags" sign wielding congregation out of Kansas) will be in San Diego next week to protest the "idolatrous worship" taking place at Comic-Con (thanks to Shoutbox user Rodrigo Ybáñez GarcÃ*a for the tip!).

The activity will happen on July 22. To get an idea of where this group is coming from you need look no further than comments in its schedule of events section on its web site:

"Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent - so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry."



Commentary Alert: Looking at the sign in the picture above, it is hard to understand what these protestors are talking about. Are nerds like Esau - "hairy, immoral and dumb" as this site http://www.aboutbibleprophecy.com/p98.htm translates the twin brothers' long ordeal? Are these protestors heirs as Jacob was? And how can they be heirs when they break the most fundamental rule of the New Testament? Namely "Thou Shalt Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself" (Mark 12:31)?

It might be time for some more Bible study, people. Still, sometimes free speech can be ugly and offensive - that's the price of having those rights. And although I don’t know what God thinks of nerds, I draw the line at dudes dressed like Wonder Woman."

Looks like gamers are going to need their version of the Patriot Guard Riders.

In my experience the ones who promote their faith the most are the least educated. Outside of a couple of verses that are repeated over and over they couldn't tell you anything about the bible except for what their preacher feeds them.
If more people were Catholic like me, church on christmas and easter, their would be less "christian" based conflict in the world.

I usually stay away from religion and politics, I just want to say one thing. Regardless of religion, regardless of the church you attend, regardless of the book you read. If Christians were more Christian like, that would put rest to all of the religious conflict between Christian faiths. I think that everyone can agree that the overall belief of Christians, Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists, Mormons etc. all revolve around christ. I know for a fact through my personal faith that god does not hate anyone.

Well said. Regardless of what your religious beliefs are. Or even if you don't believe in a god. I find it ironic that the people who profess to be the most religious are usually the least tolerant. And to pick on nerds and geeks (which I count myself one of) is funny as hell to me. There's nobody less harmless than this group of people. I've gone to the comic-con for the last 19 years. And the only thing to protest down there is the high prices. These protester better watch out. Nerds have changed. Some are big and mean like me and Henry Rollins at last years Con.....hahahaha. And I'll throw this pic of Eva Mendes in also. Who I sat right next to at the con.

I've got a chance to be fairly close to many actors over the years at the con. She's one of the few who looks as good in person as she does on screen.

ide have to agree with kingpin on this one. back in late 03', while we where living out of our strykers; we would run cat5 between em' and have halo tourneys after the assault on Samarra. Was quite a sight, a platoon of Recon Strykers full of dirty, tired Scouts with M4s and M24s laying all around. Huddled around 4 small TVs playing HALO
