Star Wars: Battlefront 3

Okay, okay....I realize there's nothing official about this game yet from Lucasarts, but there seems to be a lot of speculation that Comic Con may possibly see some sort of teaser or announcement about another forth coming title aside from the MMORPG that is already planned.

What caught my eye today was this video, supposedly showing some game footage from an internal meeting at Free Radical in November 2008.

I loved Battlefront 1 & 2 on the PS2 and have been dying for them to bring an updated version to the Xbox/PS3 level. Let's hope there's something behind this.

Damn you River. i saw this title and thought you found something new and concrete!

Free radical was rumored to be working on the title and then more rumors spread that the project was canned when the company went under in late 2008. Yet more rumors started circulating that Lucas arts had passed the project to another dev. Nothing official was ever released though that i know of

After the big layoffs some screen shots of character models surfaced that made it seem pretty clear that Free Radical was in fact working on the game but what happened to it after that i don't know. Free Radical got bought up by Crytek and became Crytek UK in 2009 but i doubt Battlefront 3 was allowed to follow with them, but if it did that would be awesome. I would enjoy seeing Battlefront running on a CryEngine


This is the game i was crossing my fingers for when they were announcing a new starwars project. I was a little disappointed when it turned out to be The Force Unleashed II but hey, that looks like it's going to be a great game too so it's ok.

if this game does finally make it out, i'm pretty sure it will be my main multiplayer for a while

Battlefront 3 was 99 percent done when canceled

Free Radical cofounder Steve Ellis says ill-fated Star Wars game only needed bug fixing, would have been company's "most successful game."

Star Wars: Battlefront III was 99 percent complete at the time of its cancellation, Free Radical cofounder Steve Ellis told GamesTM magazine (via NowGamer).

"We had a 99 percent finished game that just needed bug fixing for release. It should have been our most successful game, but it was cancelled for financial reasons," Ellis said.

A report from May revealed Battlefront III was in development at Free Radical (now Crytek UK) from mid-2006 through early 2008. Other cofounder David Doak said things went well with the project until a management change at LucasArts led the publisher to make deep cuts and essentially sabotaged Battlefront III.

"[W]e went from talking to people who were passionate about making games to talking to psychopaths who insisted on having an unpleasant lawyer in the room," Doak said at the time.

Yeah if all it needs is bug-fixing, that's a couple months with a fairly small staff. Not much money at all from a dev standpoint.
