    2010-2011 Hunting season

Who is preparing for the 2010 2011 hunting season? Bow hunters, or gun. What do you do? Share your tasks in preparing for the upcoming season.

I'm from Louisiana so bow season is right around the corner. Stands are hung but I still need to trim back some limbs. I bought 2 Trophy mineral Rocks to try. Has anyone used these? Still need to mow and weed controll the foodplot. Has anyone who has planted Imperial Whitetail Clover had a problem controlling native grasses and weeds? My clover is about 10" high but the weeds and grasses are about 14" high so I need to find a way to control this. Share your stories and pics if you want.

    Re: 2010-2011 Hunting season

Unfortunately, I am having to pass on deer hunting this year. I usually hunt both bow and muzzleloader. Here in IL we aren't allow to use rifles, so we are limited to muzzleloader or shotgun. Some of our counties have a pistol season, but not all of them. In IL (BTW, this state sucks!), we are not allow to use baiting of any kind. Salt blocks or anything for that matter will get you a huge fine here. I do believe food plots are acceptable, but here in central IL, our timber is limited so the deer are easily tracked. Even with the limited timber, we get some HUGE deer here from all the corn they have to eat. We don't get too excited anymore with field dressed 200+lb bucks as they are getting more common all the time.

What are your seasons there? Our bow season is Oct-Dec. Shotgun/Muzzleloader ends up to be about 3 weeks timed around the rut. Usually scattered around end of Oct and Nov.

    Re: 2010-2011 Hunting season

Here in West Virginia, hunting is a major business. I'm pretty excited this year because they expanded fall turkey season into three of the counties I generally hunt deer in starting October 23rd. Deer archery season kicks off September 13th to the 18th, with a split season October 16th to the 31st. Gun season starts November 22nd thru December 4th, and then goes to anterless only up to December 11th. There's another split season for anterless gun hunting December 29th to the 31st. Muzzleloader season is usually 13-18 December, but they're having a special split season for that starting September 20th thru the 25th.

I plan on squirrel hunting starting on October 9th so I can start scouting my deer spots.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Season just started in IL, and so far it has been pretty good. I am not hunting this year, but my buddies have been seeing some decent deer. How is it going for all our hunters here? Are you guys seeing much?

    Re: 2010-2011 Hunting season

Squirrel season kicks off this coming Saturday here in WV. That's usually when I take the opportunity to scout out my positions for deer season coming up next month. Haven't heard much as far as the archery side of the house just yet. My motor sergeant has been out a few weekends and hasn't seen much so far...at least nothing worth taking.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

you have a season for Squirrel? All year is open for Squirrel here, and Coyote as well.

We have a squirrel season in IL. Starts in Sept, ends around Feb. Coyote is open all year for us, and we need it bad! They have wiped out the fox population here. Unfortunately, not many people hunt for them. I usually kill 3 or 4 during turkey season because they come in on the decoys and calls. I actually had one pounce on my decoys and go to town on it...

    Re: 2010-2011 Hunting season

Yeah, I've never understood why we have limited season for squirrel and rabbit either. Coyote season is year round here too, but only for day hunting.

Just as an FYI: here's the current listing of seasons in WV: http://www.wvdnr.gov/Hunting/Regs1011/Season_dates.pdf

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

I hope everyone's hunting season is going great! Our deer are still not moving too well here. It has been really warm, and we haven't been seeing them do much of anything. In areas where guys fill their tags on the first day, are doing good to see a single deer the whole trip. Hopefully the temp will drop soon and the deer will end their vacation!

I think our deer just ended. Doesn't matter anyway. Still waiting for my follow up class for my licence. Gonna have to wait till I get back from Utah. But when I get it, pig, rabbit, and squirrel are year round here.

I can think of 3 reasons:

    1. The saying about "humping like rabbits" actually has meaning. We have millions of them here. Over population means diseases and such, so we have to keep the population down somehow.

    2. They taste good.

    3. My dog likes to eat rabbit poop (Lord only knows why), but she get worms from it, so I have to keep them out of my yard. Wait for it......BOOM!

Whatever, I absolutely loved getting the bunny achievement. Because every time a cougar happened to get me, there was a bunny right there jumping on my dead body. I swear those two were in cahoots.
