Fight Begins Online and Finishes Offline

Late last week, two men from New York got into a heated argument while playing a PS3 game online. Normally, that's where the beef would end, but in this case, it was only the beginning of hostilities.

Eric S. LaChapelle, 24 (left), had been playing an undisclosed PS3 game online against Corey J. Chalich, 18 (right), when things took a turn for the worse. Rather than leave it be, LaChapelle jumped in his car and drove to Chalich's house, where he "assaulted him" sufficiently for the younger man to require hospital treatment.

That prompted Chalich to reach for a knife and "threaten" his assailant, who then took off and ran. He didn't get far, though, as he was arrested "minutes later", and for his troubles Chalich was picked up as well.

Both men now face charges, LaChapelle of third-degree assault and Chalich of second-degree menacing.

wow. why the hell would you tell a guy exactly whee you live? unless they where prior friends or something. LOL. What a douche. Both of them in this case... I just don't talk smack to people unless they are USMG but it never gets out of hand, and it's more of just crackin jokes on each other. WOW, too submerged in that lifestyle I guess... Gamer rehab anyone? LOL

I don't understand how the victim can be charged for defending himself with a knife.

There's a good point! Another good point that was brought up by ASig, is why would someone know exactly where you live, unless you feel that confident in fighting skills. Of course, I'm not one to talk, I have in the past gotten so fed up with a person who is supposed to be an adult and their lack of respect, and actually have challenged people from online to a real-life Modern Warfare (hand-to-hand only of course), and given them my address...Still haven't had anyone actually show up though. I even have my hometown in my Bio on XBox Live, call me cocky, call me confident, but after being in the military and being in war, I don't like disrespect and I don't mind having to defend myself. Crazy story though, I wonder if this kinda thing is going to start happening more frequently?!

There have been some people that I would of loved to punch through the screen! I don't think I would waste my time knocking at their doors to kick their ass though.

The hubby's done that a few times also I had found a lot of it as empty threats, but as u X-Boxin' USMG fellas know, I do have a temper. But, even though I would fantasize of kicking their asses, I wouldn't go so far as to actually doing it; unless I had to defend myself of course. Wow!

2nd degree menacing? WTF is that? somthing like
"I hate you so much (waving a knife)"
"I'm going to call the cops cause I just pee'd myself and I'm also going to sue you!"

Stupid freaking people, almost like the kid in NY who is suing the guy who caught him playing ding-dong-ditch on his porch... It's always something new in this world...

On this side or the other, we will meet once again.

Wow...just...I'm speechless. How sorry does your ego have to be to physically threaten another person over a friggin' video game? These ass clowns couldn't come up with something more constructive to prove that they deserve to continue breathing oxygen?

    How to find people:
    1. look up gamertag online, leeds to facebook
    2. facebook links leads to actual name and city
    3. yellow pages lead to an address
    4. tom-tom takes you to the LARP smack-down

Be careful what you put onto the internet, and understand that your anonymous alias might not be that anonymous. For funsies you should see if you can find yourself or a friend on the interwebs starting with only their gamertag.

The lesson is to not talk smack that you don't want to have to back up unless you have made sure to cover your tracks.

Re: Fight Begins Online and Finishes Offline

We've adopted the "Castle Doctrine" here in West Virginia. Break into a house at your own risk, and don't even think about trying to taking the victim to court.
WV Senate Passes “Castle Doctrine” Bill

    From the Beckley Register-Herald:

Senate unanimously OKs ‘Castle Doctrine’ bill

    By Mannix Porterfield
    Register-Herald Reporter

CHARLESTON — Senators agreed Tuesday that one’s home is a castle, open to the wind but not to intruders with evil in mind.

And if any is caught pilfering, the owner is allowed to use deadly force, and may use the fear of a threat the intruder poses as a “full and complete defense” in case the burglar files a lawsuit over his wounds.

As things turned out, the bill’s leading proponent the past two sessions, Sen. Shirley Love, D-Fayette, wasn’t around to take part in the 32-0 tally that propelled the “Castle Doctrine” bill on to the House of Delegates.

Love missed a second straight day, tending to an ailing sister in another state, his secretary explained.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Jeffrey Kessler, D-Marshall, made note of Love’s lead sponsorship of the bill, saying it was intended to protect families and homeowners from acts of invasion and violence.

A stronger version was offered in time to beat the 41st day deadline for offering legislation by Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman John Unger, D-Berkeley.

Unger offered his own tack, one that would disallow a wounded intruder to even file a lawsuit in the first case.

In the Eastern Panhandle, Unger said, seniors increasingly have become targets of burglars who apparently consider them easy marks for break-ins.

To Unger, the idea of a senior citizen forced to use deadly force to thwart an invader, then face a lawsuit, was unthinkable.

“They amend it over in the House and it may have to come back for conference,” Unger said.

For now, he said, the Senate at least has a Castle Doctrine bill out, and like any other proposed law, it can be altered if the need presents itself.

“We can always come back and tweak it in the future, be it this session or a future session,” he said.

The measure was pushed by the National Rifle Association, and so far, at least 20 states have some form of it.

Perhaps, Unger suggested, seniors could be accorded some extra protection outside the concept of the Castle Doctrine.

“Maybe in enhanced penalties or whatever to people who prey on seniors and put them at risk,” he said.

“Who knows what we can do as far as the crimes and type of penalties associated with it?”

Re: Fight Begins Online and Finishes Offline

i think that the difference i that he wasnt there to break in and steal stuff. he was there to kick some ass. here's how i imagine things went down:

Goes to house, knocks on door, says, "Get out here so i can kick your ass!"

Guy in the house, also ready to kick some ass, opens the door and gets his ass kicked.

Guy in the house regrets his decision to open the door and runs for a knife. 8-)

Can't in Washington. We have to continually tell the cop how threatened for our life we were, and if your gun is modified at all...short barrel, stock, grip, light, a lot of people will consider it an "assault" weapon, meaning you were looking for a reason to kill someone? Yeah, it's kinda stupid up here.

Oh, and make sure if you hear someone breaking in, you go to them. Because if you wait for them to come to you, it can be considered pre-meditated.

 I did a yahoo search for Bull3tBait and came up with 9 links. Every single one of them were for me. 3 of them referred to my xfire account, 1 to something I posted on the EA forums, 1 to a post on the xbox BF:BC2 bugs forum and 4 to songs I liked on Last.FM

So I went ahead and searched my gamertag on Yahoo and Google, and came up with very little; actually it was mostly USMG posts in forums as well as my sig up on Photobucket, and 1 from my GameBattles profile, no Facebook or MySpace links though. I think I'm safe, maybe I should become a little more public

Could you imagine this happening more often?

There would be a pandamonium... and come on i understand just throwing the idea away as pure idiocracy; but how fun would it be to kick in a door of a 12 year old and give some cheesy online attackers line "Time to rumble"
"Kill one man, and you are a murderer. Kill millions of men, and you are a conqueror. Kill them all, and you are a god."
