    MOH BANNED ON POST

Military bases across the United States have banned the sale of a new video game that lets a player pretend to be a Taliban fighter and "shoot" U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Gamers are scoffing at the decision, saying that advanced technology has made it commonplace in the gaming world to let players switch sides and play the bad guy.

"Medal of Honor" by Electronic Arts, a major game developer based in California, hits stores Oct. 12.

After public protests, including by British Defense Secretary Liam Fox, U.S. military officials decided not to stock the game in any of the nearly 300 base exchange shops.

Fox said last month that he was "disgusted and angry" by what was a "tasteless product." Fox called on retailers to show their support for the troops by not selling it.

"At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers, and wives have lost husbands," Fox said. "It's shocking that someone would think it acceptable to re-create the acts of the Taliban against British soldiers."

The game also will not be sold at any of the 49 GameStop stores on various U.S. military bases. Troops will be allowed to own copies, but they have to buy them off-base.

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause authorized shoppers but are optimistic that they will understand the sensitivity to the life-and-death scenarios this product presents as entertainment," said Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella, who commands the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, which oversees more than 180 base exchange shops.

Casella made the decision last week, with the Navy quickly following suit. Kathleen Martin, a spokeswoman for the Navy Exchange Service Command, said the game won't be sold at any of the Navy's 104 exchange shops.

Past versions of the 11-year old "Medal of Honor" game have been set in World War II, allowing players to act as members of the Allied force or the Nazi regime.

The latest version is set in modern Afghanistan, where 140,000 U.S. and NATO troops are fighting the Taliban. The story is told through a small group of characters known as "Tier 1" operators, elite fighters who take orders directly from the president and defense secretary.

EA opened with this phrase in its description of its game: "Operating directly under the National Command Authority, a relatively unknown entity of hand-picked warriors are called on when the mission must not fail." The site doesn't advertise that the multiplayer version allows a player to role-play as a member of the Taliban.

One online promotion features video interviews with Special Operations personnel who the company says served as consultants to improve the authenticity of the game. The faces of the men interviewed were blurred and their names not given.

"By me being a part of it, I at least have some say on how the community is represented," one man says.

Electronic Arts did not respond to a request for comment. Spokeswoman Amanda Taggart was quoted last month by the Sunday Times as saying that video gamers routinely play both good guys and bad guys.

"Most of us have been doing this since we were 7: Someone plays cop, someone must be robber," the newspaper quoted her as saying.

I have had a long running digruntlement with AAFES. They can't keep my Copenhagen in stock, they order and stock the very stupidest movies and games in Iraq (seriously, who has a gamecube over there?!), and now this. this is the most non-issue thing blown up into a huge deal and it sounds just about right for AAFES. Apparently any yahoo can say that something is offensive and it then becomes offensive and has to be removed. i am going to try this on Yo Gabba Gabba, those dang songs keep getting stuck in my head and it has to stop.

there's a party in my tummy, So Yummy! So Yummy!

    --it must be stopped!

My daughter watches Yo Gabba Gabba and the guy that hosts totally creeps me out. Maybe it's that he's disproportionately tall and skinny, then you put that hat and those glasses on him. Maybe it's just me.

For those of you who don't know what we're talking about:

There are video clips available here: http://www.nickjr.com/kids-videos/yo...ds-videos.html.
I do not by any means advocate drug use or alcohol abuse, but you may want to consider some form of sedation BEFORE you watch these. You have been warned.

    Re: MOH BANNED ON POST

lmao I have two kids, and BOTH of them love that damn Gabba Gabba... I have to deal with two tv's playing two different episodes of either Blue's Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba or SpongeBob (don't talk bad about the Sponge...), so I catch myself all the time walking around work humming either a damn spongebob song or blue's clues song. Even when there is nothing on TV I catch myself putting on Nick Jr, with no kids around, just out of habit. hahahahaha anywho, the banning of MoH sucks for me, cause I am stationed out here in Germany so that was my only way to get it instantly, now I am gonna have to pre-order on Amazon and hope it gets here ASAP. Stupid Germany and there not having a WalMart, Target, or Gamestop... lol

Try the Toom Markt. Then again, their version will probably be the German version. :? Never mind, stick with the Amazon route.

    Re: MOH BANNED ON POST

I would much rather my kids watch Yo Gabba then Telli Tubbies... at least on Yo Gabba there isn't a "male" alien that wears women's jewlery and carries a purse!!! lol BUT If I had my choice, it'd be neither... as stated before Blue's Clue's, SpongeBob, and (damn him to hell...) Elmo!
