    PSN Error

As some of you know by now, the PSN is experiencing difficulties and there seems to be glitch affecting fat PS3s. Slims seem to be spared. Looks like it has something to do with the internal clock. Some call it the Y2K+10 glicth. Beware. I'd recommend just leaving your PS3s alone for the time being and monitor gaming news sites for Sony's response of a fix.

Mine is affected, which is why I wasn't online last night after returning home from my weekend trip.

    Re: PSN Error

Thanks for the info, however how does it affect all Fatty's....... is it like a virus.......when I log on am I at risk or is it a total hardware thing where it doesn't matter if I am online or offline it's going to happen anyway......If the latter is the case, that sux...

this is stolen from the PS Blog, posted earlier today with info on what's going on:

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

    Errors include:
    • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.[/*:m:3ahko7oy]
    • When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.[/*:m:3ahko7oy]
    • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
      trophies. Please exit your game.”[/*:m:3ahko7oy]
    • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”[/*:m:3ahko7oy]
    • Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.[/*:m:3ahko7oy]

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Before knowing about the issue we booted my brother's PS3 up last night and we saw the clock time being way off and we couldn't get it to connect to the network. That was all I noticed though, it let us play borderlands via a LAN game still and didn't show any trophy or game errors

Gaming is staying up 'til 3am to earn a trophy that isn't real.......BUT IS

    PlayStation 3 Troubles

Many of you may have heard of this already or, like me, are being affected by it. Just wanted to pass this along to those that may not know about this yet.

"Sony: Stop Playing Older PS3s Until Bug is Fixed"
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2360786,00.asp

Hopefully they have this fixed soon. Would hate to have this become Sony's version of the Red Ring of Death.

    Re: PSN Error

Unfortunately I'm in this boat too so I'm down for a bit. Hope they get things fixed soon. Would hate to see this become Sony's version of the Red Ring of Death. But from what I've read, this is a fixable software problem and a solution will be forthcoming.

So, until then RecCon-ONE is standing down and assuming RedCon-Four.

    Re: PSN Error

Looks like it's not just older PS3's. Some reports of Slimlines being affected as well. Sony is advising to keep ALL PS3's off until corrected.

Well at least I know it wasn't just me having this. My clock seemed to be correct last night though. I did have a hell of time playing on it this weekend when I was logged on the PSN. Hope they figure everything out soon. Maybe it will be a big recall then I can get a slim instead.

Pardon my french, but fuck that! I have a PS3 with backwards compatability, ability to install other OS and the card slots. Sony needs to get it's act together. This Y2K+10 bug is on them. Maybe they get parts from the same Toyota factory. We need congrssional hearings. :x

    Re: PSN Error

LOL! I'm in the same boat TLOG. I snagged one of the last 80GB/backwards compatible/multi-card reader versions. It's been reliable up to this point. I'd hate to see them drop the ball like MicroShaft did with the Xbox.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

PSN is back up. You may want to sync your date with the internet in the settings. Mine works but I'm staying signed off until the official word from Sony. We survived judgement day, people.

Well that is because I do not have a cool backwards compatablility one. I just got the one about a month before the slim came out in stores. So I would be willing to trade.

    Re: PSN Error

I am with you all, I have an 80GB backwards compatible, have all the Flash Drives, etc......I think SONY is trying to cash in, last I heard they had an abundance of these slims lying around and haven't really moved them like they would like, nor have that many Fatty owners opted to switch to slim. I think they want us to just go purchase slim PS3's, if thats the case Jay Allard (XBOX) and company aren't looking like the DLC Raping bad guys
    I have thought them to be........Sony needs to fix this immediately...I leave to pick up Battlefield in 3hrs. If I turn my PS3 on and it doesn't work........There will be another shooting at Fort Hood [Me shooting my PS3}
