They listed the M40 as seven. I think it is suppose to be an updated mod of it. But it is the M40.

Also, is the M21 still in service? I read that it wasn't. Maybe that's why it wasn't considered? Because I think all the ones they ranked are currently in service, as are all the weapon systems that Ultimate Weapons features.

Definitely the M200 for #1. in fact you could probably add a #1.5 for an Intervention without the Advanced Ballistic Computer.

I don't know then Sav. I think though that it was the M110 they chose over the M21, maybe that's because it is going to be the new standard issue rifle for snipers and desginated marksman in the Army?

I don't disagree with much here. I am surprised the M24 did not make the list (not even in it's .300 Win Mag form). Also, not too keen on them putting an M40 on the list chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua. I believe they should have had the M40 up there in it's issued form in 7.62 NATO.

I'd be interested to find out which countries/agencies issue these firearms to their marksmen.

    Re: Top Ten Sniper Rifles

    Hey Guys,

Sorry to not have been on MAG in awhile I can only take so much of those dumb punk kids at a time, but I did watch this show and agree with their outcome myself. Although they did forget to mention anything about some of the earlier sniper rifles that still do have more confirmed kills in their service life than most modern sniper rifles of today. Those rifles being the venerable and legendary Springfield M1903A2 or 3, a tough as nails bolt action 30-06. Also the preferred weapon of the infamous Carlos Hathcock was a Winchester M70 also chambered in 30-06 that I think he has roughly 90+ confirmed kills with. He basically reformed and founded both the marine corps' and army sniper schools' training regime. After all that said, I still enjoyed the show and firmly believe that the US still trains and produces the best soldiers today.

Well the AS-50 was designed for the SEALs, from what I read the M110 is replacing the M24 as the standard issue in the US Army, and the M40 as we all know is USMC. I think they said something about the Brits using my personal favorite on the show, the AWSM. I think the majority of rifles though are used by the US, cos all the clips they showed of soldiers carrying them looked to be pretty much exclusively US.

BTZ: I think they didn't mention the older weapons because Ultimate Weapons only does newer technology. They don't do the best ever, just the best being made now. I've watch most of the series that came out this year and all of the weapon systems they've shown have been developed recently, or feature the most recent mods (as is the case with the M40 I believe).

Word from my buddies, they ARE GOING to be receiving M110s and they are being issued to spotters and shooters. in replacement of the spotters M4/ACOG. BUT the shooters are keeping their M24s for those "Special" situations where a single shot is necessary. (HVTs anyone?) Thus further adding to the choice of weaponry a Sniper section has available to them.
