    Gladiator

It would be really cool to have a good gladiator MMORPG. There was a single player gladiator game several years back that I remember, I think for PS2. It was pretty cool, don't remember the name of it. It was kind of RPG like where you had to build your skills and you could collect gear to use in the arena, but also if you lost in the arena then you would lose the gear you were wearing as well; which as frustrating as it may have been, was kind of cool for strategy purposes.

Anyway, back on subject, I think it'd be really cool to see a good Gladiator game. And I think with the general fascination people have with gladiators, with popular movies like Gladiator and tv series like Spartacus, there is definately a market for this type of game too. It just has to be good.

    Re: Gladiator

oh ok, well both seem to have a similar premise so either is good, they should look into a sequel or an updated similar concept

    Re: Gladiator

I was actually thinking an online only.

You chose a character starting with their nationality (i.e. Roman, African, Gaul, etc)
You chose what your character's profession was before he/she became enslaved (the options being: soldier/warrior, hunter, laborer, entertainer).
Then you place points in 7 different abilities: strength, speed, agility, mentality (courage, morale, etc.), constitution (endurance, health, pain threshold), tactical awareness, showmanship (how well you entertain the crowd).
Your nationality and prior profession will offer multipliers for different abilities (ie an African hunter may have greater speed and agility; or a Gaul laborer may have greater strength and constitution; whereas a Roman soldier may have greater mentality and tactical awareness; etc.)
Then you customize the looks of your character
Then also have a skill tree based on Weapon Proficiency, Defense, Athleticism, etc. that you can place skills in as you level

Once that is complete, you select a ludus (much like how we select PMCs on MAG). Perhaps even have the ludus' provide ability multipliers based on their location and training style.

Then you can chose a match type/game mode. Have options like 1v1, battle reenactment, group v group (which clans could have a way of fighting clan v clan), etc. There would also be a practice mode where you practice with other players on the ludus' training grounds. Perhaps have a system where certain level players can provide training to newer players and earn special leadership points like in MAG for when they fight in groups or in battle reenactments.

As a character fights he/she not only gains experience but money as well. Money that is earned by the gladiator can use it to buy equipment like weapons and armor; but also throw in goods and services that may offer temporary boosts to different abilities (ie better food, wine, women--something that perhaps would improve morale--). Even have it that they can save up enough to eventually purchase their freedom (which has no other value than to see a special cut scene, something to be used when they have grown tired of their character).

Also once the player reaches the highest character level, they can "prestige" into a special "Primus" mode where they compete to fight in Primuses/Main Events. Once they prestige they focus on one specialty/fighting style (sword and shield, dual wield, spearman, etc.) and must play like a beginner with that specialty. Once they have mastered it they can prestige again to a different weapons specialty and so on and so forth. This way the life of the game is extended.

Anyway, I thought a lot about this today. And how fun it would be. Plus, like I said before, there is a market for it I think.
