    Question regarding USAF

Okay, so in recent weeks (2) I've been thinking about joining the Air Force. As it is still currently a simple thought, I haven't really considered actually signing up yet or anything. My question is: Are people that are near-sighted allowed to fly jets or choppers? -Thanks in advance.

Nope. U cant fly without 20/20. Fighters at least. No idea about heavies.

On this side or the other, we will meet once again.

And you have to have a high math score on your ASVAB. At least you did when I tried back in '95. I wanted to fly also. But when I was told I couldn't, because of my math score, I joined the Marines. And I haven't regretted it since! Semper Fi!!

Correctable to 20/20. Pretty sure they still allow lasik, but that may just be for heavies/choppers.

They have a new surgery that will give you better than 20/20 vision now. It is most likely a bit expensive. You do have to be a math guru to fly, that is true.

    DONT DO IT!!!

If you want to fly, fly Army. You will get allot more flight hours in rotary aircraft.

And you get to say your in the Army, and not in the wimpy Air Force

I have to endorse this message. Unless you're going in for the on-base perks. In which case, go Air Force.

    Thumbs up Hooker fer life!!

Well IF your where able to join...Army Aviation which is the Old Air Force anyway!!LOL is the Easiest to qualify to fly....they do waivers if you have less than 20/20 but correctable vision...and they are hurting on Warrant Officers so they well accept almost anyone!! they need pilots bad!! and only the best fly Chinooks!! then Blackhawks then Apaches then Kiowas.....the trickle down effect.... for me...they are just glorified stick wigglers!! the real action is in the rear of helicopter...in the rear with the gear!! if your joining to become a pilot yes the army warrant officer course is the way to go but if your joining to become a MAN join 15 series MOS(military occupation specialty)!!! 15U..15T..15R..15S...BOOYAHH!!! HOOKER FER LIFE!!

That stinks I too had medical conditions (asthma) that prevented me from joining the Army after high school (wanted to be an Army Veterinarian). So I did the next best thing and became an Army Civilian .
