Twas the Night before Christmas, Marine style!

'Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone. I come down the chimney with presents to give and to see just who in this home did live.
As I looked all about, a strange sight did I see... No tinsel, no presents, not even a reee. No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand. On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land.
With medals and badges, awards of all kind, a sobering thought came to my mind. For this house was different, unlike any I'd seen. This was the home of a U.S. Marine.
I'd heard stories about them, I had to see more, so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door. And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone, curled up on the floor of his one bedroom home.
He seemed so gentle, his face so serene. Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine. Was this the hero of whom I,d just read? Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?
His head was clean shaven, his face weathered tan. I soon understood this was more than a man. For I realized the families that I saw that night, owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight.
Soon around the nation, the childer would play, and grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day. They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year, because of Marines like this one lying here.
I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone, on a cold Christmas eve in a land far from home. Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye. I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice, "Santa don't cry. This is my choice. I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more. My life is my God, my Country, my Cprps."
With that he rolled over, drifted into sleep. I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I watched him for hours, so silent and still. I noticed he shivered from the cold night's chill.
So i took off my jacket, the one made of red, and covered this Marine from his toes to his head. The I put on his T-shirt of scarlet and gold, with eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold.
And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride, and for one shinning moment, I was Marine Corp deep inside. I didn't want to leave him, so quiet in the night, this guardian of honor so willing to fight.
But half asleep he rolle over, and in a voiceclean and pure, said, "Carry on Santa. It's Christmas Day, all secure." One look at my watch and I knewhe was right. Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi, and goodnight. By Cpl. James M. Schmidt, USMC

Twas the night before Christmas (AFGHAN Style)

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through Afghanistan,
not a creature was stirring, not even the Taliban.
Combat boots were aligned under the cots with care,
but nobody expected that St Nicholas would be there.
The soldiers were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of home danced in their heads.
When out by the wire there arose such a clatter,
all the soldiers sprang from their beds to see what was the matter.
Away to the fighting positions they flew with a flash,
threw on their gear and made a mad dash.
The moon shining down on the desert below
gave the Afghan qalats a menacing glow.
When up in the sky something strange did appear,
but all the brave soldiers suppressed their fear.
Calmly they prepared for the battle ahead,
though their hearts were filled with a visceral dread.
But soon they discovered a cause for the racket,
a laughing fat man in a brilliant red jacket.
He was driving a sleigh loaded with gear,
pulled behind a team of eight reindeer!
The soldiers gazed with awe at the sight,
of the familiar man flying his sleigh through the night.
Down came the sleigh with a dizzying drop,
and soon Santa landed in the midst of the COP!
As he stepped down into the gathering crowd,
he patted his belly and exclaimed aloud:
"Combat landings are always a fright,
maybe I shouldn't have had that egg nog tonight!"
He pulled out a bag which bulged at the seams,
filled with the things of the soldiers dreams.
Ipods and video games and paperback tomes,
cookies and candies and letters from home.
To each soldier he gave with a hug and a smile,
chuckling and jiggling with joy all the while.
When his bag was empty and all his treats gone,
he led the soldiers in a few Christmas songs.
Soon they knew it was time that St. Nick must go,
but a private stepped forward, said "Santa, I want to know..
Why did you come to this forsaken hole in the sand,
where war and cruelty ravage the land?"
Santa looked up with a gleam in his eye,
and for a second it seemed as if he might cry.
With a quivering voice he said to the women and men
"I look forward with joy to that day when
all mankind will be happy and live together in peace,
from the North to the South to the West to the East.
But for now I know some must fight,
to ensure that the weak and oppressed have the right
to live their lives as they want, as they please,
without tyranny bringing them to their knees.
I know these men and women are lonely and scared,
    far from their life,
far from friend and neighbor and child, husband or wife
These heroes deserve the joy of the season,
and to this land I come for that reason"
He saluted the soldiers with pride in his eyes,
then climbed into his sleigh with a sigh.
With a whistle and a flick of the reigns in his hand,
the sleigh and the reindeer rose above the land
He bellowed as he rose ever higher and flew out of sight
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!"

Cool Twas the night before Christmas(USMG STYLE)

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the clan, not a muscle was stirring, not a single hand; the rifles were cleaned by hand with care, in hopes that bullets would soon be there, the members
were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of domination's flashed in their heads; and all of the members dressed in USMG black, had just settled down for a quick little nap, when out on the field there arose such a clatter, everyone woke up to see what was the matter, away to there posts they flew like a flash, loaded there chambers and got ready to dash. The moon was glistening off the new fallen snow, making it easy to see the enemies below; when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a tiger tank and eight battalions dressed in full gear, they maneuvered so lively and quick that for a minute I thought id be sick. More rapid than eagles USMG members came, and Smoke whistled, and shouted and called them by name; “Now toby, Apollo, ladym, and jack! On silent, spyder, and bull3t !
On dbgUSMC and Ironhide too! To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall! Now fight away! Fight away! Fight away all! As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet an obstacle bullets will fly. So up to the house top the courses they flew, with an army of members and plumbers too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard the blasts and blasts of each different gun.
As I grabbed my pistol, and was turning around, down the hill the enemy came with a bound. They were dressed all in armor from shoes to shirt, and there clothes were all covered in sweat and dirt. I yelled in the night to “FIRE AT WILL”, when the bullets had stopped I could see all my friends and there amazing skill, not an enemy was standing, and no reinforcements landing USMG had won the battle, now all that was left to do was go home and enjoy some nice fiddle faddle.

    Merry Christmas Everybody

I was just thinking of starting a "12 Days of Christmas....USMG Style" thread in which we each add a line to that carol, just changing the items in the song to something more....*ahem*...meaningful (i.e. Jack Daniels, man thongs, beer).

Start thinking of it and watch for the thread.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.
