What's your take on them? I saw a P229 and P239. Was just curious because I don't know much about the Sig firearms.

Sig was originally a Swiss/German company named Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft In the 80's they split that company into two different corporations. Sig is the American import partner and Swiss Arms AG is the european mothership. Sig does do some Manufacturing in America since they have built upp their Mfg. capability.
They have really good hand-guns and rifles. Like jack said they are pricey, but they are worth it.

I prefer Springfield Armory. Something like the XD series
I have a S&W Sigma now, its a little top heavy, but still decent at CQ
Please do not contact me for recruiting issues or to add or create you a signature. I will ignore you.
My favorite handguns are Springfields, Walther, and H&K.

if you're into that checkout Walther, they make a damn good 22's. overall great guns in any cartridge.Originally Posted by saviger

Well I was looking at handguns at the store today ... only in a small town would the local grocery store have a handgun selection, right? lol
Anyway, the SIG P229 was $700, but I like that it is a bit smaller. The Springfield XD I think will end up being my first firearm though. I wouldn't mind having one better for concealing, especially when I go camping (just for the reassurance without toting anything too big), so I was kind of looking at some XD variations that were smaller. Don't know though. I need to research before getting my first gun. I think maybe I'll go take some shooting classes, see if I can test out a few before buying so I know what I'd like. But, with what you all have told me and what I've heard Springfield is a great way to go.

when you move on to big boy guns (Battle Rifles ) let me know.

will do. right now I'm just thinking handguns though because when (hopefully when and not "if") I go into the police force I'll need an off duty weapon.Originally Posted by saviger

Ok so I want to study firearms. Types, makers, models, specs, etc. I think this (coupled with a wide variety of other studies) can help make me more of a commodity when I seek employment with federal law enforcement (especially if I were to join the ATF*silent E*). I figure it can't hurt, lol.
I do plan on getting in as much personal experience as possible, once I have the money to go to shooting ranges and be able to fire a wide range of weaponry. Until then, I figured I'd read up on the subject as much as possible. So I'm wondering what you all recommend for reliable sources. Certainly I'm going to do some basic research on wikipedia, including using them as a reference for all the different models (which I know they have a list of), but that is really only useful if I can cross reference their info with more reliable sources.
