    Navy BDUs

When did they get a new camo scheme? Saw some footage from the USS Comfort and the blue scheme looked sweet!

    Re: Navy BDUs

    you mean these?

i'm not really sure why most navy personnel would need BDUs, spending most time on a ship where camouflage is somewhat useless but more power to them i suppose lol

Well they look a hell of a lot more comfortable than those crappy blue bell bottom dungarees I used to have to wear all the time. But i'm not sure I would wear them in the Nuclear powered engine rooms since I worked with extremely hot surfaces, torches, and such. So I really wouldn't want the nylon in the 50/50 nylon cotton blend to melt to my skin. I had a nylon rope melt and drip on to my skin once and it was not very pleasant at all. I couldn't imagine a whole uniform. Unless the cotton helps shield the nylon from melting with extreme heat?

I always envied the other services with their uni's. Navy has soooo many. Marines have the sword and spiffy class A's. Army too. In the AF we have reg BDUs, now ABUs with the tiger/cloud greenish pattern. Our short sleeve dress blues suck! You can wear a geeky tie or wear it open with no tshirt looking like you just stepped outta the Vietnam era. As a new airman I used to get looks cuz I would go against regs by copying the Army and wearing tshirts so you couldn't see the chest hairs. lol

I don't think they changed any of our dress uniforms which are the cracker jack ones just the working uniforms by standardizing them. I was just thinking too about the air crews which all wore different colored long sleeve shirts to distinguish their particular job on the flight decks. Especially with all the noise it's easy to tell whose job is what instead of going around asking everyone of them to find a specific airman. If they standardized to all the same uniforms that would screw that system all up.

of course, why didn't that occur to me. So when an enemy actually does attack they can all jump ship and hide in the ocean while they search the ship and eventually leave after deciding it must be a ghost ship

I like it. Do remember though, You technically fell under the Department of the Navy. Which technically means you were in the Navy, Marine.

See that's why they made the Marines though, they needed somebody to actual do some fighting while the Navy guys paraded around in their bell bottoms. LOL

No offence Navy guys, most of you are cool and all but just so much fun to make fun of

    Re: Navy BDUs

No offense to the marines but all I saw laying on the floor after a barfight with Navy guys was a lot of marines, they just simple can't hold their liquor either like a Navy guy. The thing that beats you down is that big ego that some get thinking they are badasses just because they were in the marines . Most of the guys I hung out and worked with could bench over 300lbs. squat over 400lbs. We have plenty of free workout time while out to sea. Someone smart is someone that doesn't underestimate their enemy. I never started a fight but I damn sure finished them. . I always had respect for all branches because I've had family in every single branch in a few wars. I just have to laugh at fools who tries to pick fights over things like being in a different branch then get their ass beat down, pretty sad. I did 6 years active duty so look at my rack and what is missing? hmmmmm

    My good conduct medal.

    Re: Navy BDUs

lol yeah i think of everyone that built their racks on the other site, Saviger was the only one that had a good conduct ribbon. Damn goody two shoes

i never got into the whole branch rivalry thing either, outside of just poking fun amongst friends. So many Marines had such big heads and that's one of the things that made me a bit of an outcast (that and the fact that i kept my hair at an astonishing 2.5" to 2.75" inches on top). In boot The DIs even told all the guys in my platoon how when they get home all the girls are gonna want them and they will be badasses and such but while i just laughed it off, it is apparent that most of them took it completely seriously.

hey DBG, were you one of those certified badasses out of boot?

    Re: Navy BDUs

I think it's only fair that the navy gets a cool uniform, everyone else already has. Question... Do they have a shore side version? Like an ACU or MARPAT one? A lot of the times when we'd call for EOD to blow some shit up in Iraq more often than not it'd be a combined unit of Army Sappers & Naval EOD. The Navy guys I worked with in Iraq in 2005 wore the same 3 color DCU's I wore way back in 2003. (only difference being the octagonal hat of course). Are these guys expected to where this new uniform in Iraq & Afghanistan? Cuz that would be lolz.
I hope they have some sort of desert friendly color schemed one in the works.

All the corpsman I have seen wear the Marines marpat. I could be wrong though. At least at my reserve unit that is how it was.
