Indecision may or may not be my problem.
awesome, i've been waiting for this. I've been searching the net recently to build my bluray collection and there are a few i'm waiting on:
- Star Wars box set episodes 1-6[/*:m:132agz3m]
- complete Indiana Jones set (yes, even with crystal skulls. it wasn't Indy's best but i still found it entertaining enough)[/*:m:132agz3m]
- Toy Story trilogy (once the 3rd one hits theaters and then makes it to bluray i'm sure it will come out)[/*:m:132agz3m]
- Back to the future trilogy[/*:m:132agz3m]
- Family guy star wars set (not sure how many they plan to make but i imagine at least one more)[/*:m:132agz3m]
these will all make a fine addition to my collection when they come out

A lot of people on different sites have been complaining about which versions are being offered on this Blue Ray set. Some want both the original versions and the special editions. They also bring up the who shot first issue. I really don't care about those issue. The biggest issue to me is that if you want the movies on Blue-ray. You have to purchase ALL the movies.
For people who love all the movies that's great. But I thought the prequels were deadful. I really don't want to purchase them. And there's a lot of people out there who feel the same way. But since these will only be available as a boxed set. If you want the originals, you gotta buy them all. What a load of horse shit. Lucas has never done this with any of the other movies. All of them were available as a box set or individually.
My guess is Lucas knows everyone will want the originals. But many people will not want the prequels. But if you only sell them as a box set everyone will have to buy them all. I'm passing this time.
WOW, I love Star Wars! Who thinks Lucas should still go back and make the mysterious last 3 episodes? :o
I DO!! :P
I would love to see more Star Wars movies. But I don't have much confidence in Lucas anymore. I thought the prequels sucked. And the last Indiana Jones movie sucked also.Originally Posted by justj12479
i enjoyed all the newer movies, both star wars and Indiana Jones. probably because i didn't hold them to some insanely high standard of the old movies. I think all the movies were great, old and new alike. When you hold the old movies to this untouchable god-like status then nothing will ever be good enough to compare. ever.
take the movies for what they are and they are enjoyable

I don't think I'm holding the new ones to an impossible standard. Even the originals had there flaws. But Jar Jar binks. Are you kidding me? I know many people likes the new ones. But those movies were universally panned. Including the last Indy movie. Most of the major internet movie sites give those movies very low ratings. I Just think its a bullshit move to sell the Blue Rays only as a box set and not give people the option to purchase the ones they like.Originally Posted by MaximusR3

what about these? granted they are not available for sale yet but is this not an indication that there are at least some sort of plans for them?

That's cool you found that. The day Lucas announced the Star Wars movies were coming to Blu-Ray (just a few days ago). He said they would only be sold as a box set of six. And Amazon had them listed as such. Now Amazon has them listed this way. Sounds like Lucas changed his mind. Because I was Just on Amazon the other day and the Blu-Rays were listed as a box set of six. Not 2 box sets of 3. I hope they stick with this plan.Originally Posted by MaximusR3

Thankfully, the Holiday Special will not be included.
Indecision may or may not be my problem.
There have been talks about it, and it's looking more and more like it'll happen. It would be set between Episodes 3 and 4, and would cover more background characters, instead of Vader/Palps/Obi-wan. And they're thinking of branching it, if it's successful, spinning off new series to follow specific characters.....such as Boba Fett.
Anyway, I'm annoyed at myself because I'm tempted to buy all 3 sets, because I'm that big of a Star Wars nerd, but I'll probably just get the full set.

Same here.
Spike is running episodes 1 thru 3 today, and I'm watching Phantom Menace at the moment. I'm trying to decide which is worse...Episode 1 or the Star Wars Holiday Special. LOL.
On the one hand you have Jar Jar Binks. On the other, Bea Arthur in the Star Wars universe.
I guess in the end and for all it's faults, Phantom Menace did have one of the better lightsaber battles between Darth Maul / Obi-Wan / Qui-Gon and the pod race at the beginning, which was pretty cool on the big screen.
After going back and doing a Wikipedia search on the holiday special, it's pretty much accepted that it was the bigger of the two train wrecks. Here's what Wikipedia documents about it:
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star_Wars_Holiday_SpecialRegrets
George Lucas himself has rarely commented on the special, or even acknowledged its existence. He is said to have nothing but the utmost contempt for it. For instance, Tom Burman, one of the costume designers for the holiday special, has said that Lucas once told him that he was very disappointed with the final product.
At one Australian fan convention, he reportedly said[4] "If I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every copy of that show and smash it." In an online chat with fans, he reportedly said: "The Holiday Special does not represent my vision for Star Wars." In an interview with Maxim in May 2002, Maxim asked the question, "Any plans for a Special Edition of the Holiday Special?" In response, Lucas said, "Right. That's one of those things that happened, and I just have to live with it."
Later, in a May 2005 interview with StaticMultimedia.com, Lucas was asked if the film had soured him on working in television. He replied: "The special from 1978 really didn't have much to do with us, you know. I can't remember what network it was on, but it was a thing that they did. We kind of let them do it. It was done by... I can't even remember who the group was, but they were variety TV guys. We let them use the characters and stuff and that probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but you learn from those experiences."[5]
The official Star Wars site states that the holiday special "delivered mixed results," and states that the highlight of the special was the Boba Fett animated segment.[6] The official site also says, when referring to the fan interest in seeing the Wookiees on screen, "the 1978 Holiday Special didn't cut it."[7] When asked at a fan convention, "So, you don't like it (the holiday special) either?", Lucasfilm head of content and fan relations, Steve Sansweet replied "No. I mean, I like the ten minute introduction of Boba Fett, but that's about it." The official site also refers to the Boba Fett animated segment as "a cult classic".[8]
On February 8, 2006, Harrison Ford made an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and during the interview, Conan O'Brien brought up the special, and began asking various questions regarding it, such as inquiring whether he remembered making it. Ford said nothing, but looked away and shook his head nervously, then saying he had no memory of it whatsoever and it, therefore, "doesn't exist." The audience responded with laughter and applause. O'Brien then asked Ford what he would think if he played a clip of the special on the show, Ford jokingly grabbed him, then said that "[he'd] never seen it, maybe it'll be nice." Humorously acting anxious and distracted, Ford suffered through the clip (which featured a scene showing Ford as Han Solo telling Chewbacca and his wife that they are "like family" to him), and then muttered a gruff, sarcastic "thank you" to O'Brien, before continuing with the interview to promote his then newest film, Firewall.
On the 2010 television program Times Talk, New York Times columnist David Carr asked Carrie Fisher about the Holiday Special; she said that she made George Lucas give her a copy of the Special in exchange for recording DVD commentary for the Star Wars films. She added that she shows it at parties, "mainly at the end of the night when she wants people to leave."

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOMESAUCE!! Now THIS is fugging cool! The Blu-Ray set will include deleted scenes. This includes Wampas entering the rebel base on Hoth, Luke assembling his green lightsaber for the first time, the "good guys" leaving Tatooine after rescuing Han from Jabbas palace in the middle of a sandstorm, and more. See for yourself in this trailer:
It may also include this extended sequence from the Tosche Station with Biggs Darklighter. I remember reading this in the original Marvel comic book adaptation of this movie.

Some odds and ends tweaks to the footage will be in the new blu-ray version. This is mainly to "clean up" some footage. Here's a brief look with a few side-by-side examples:
