News for the Minecraft world have emerged today at MineCon 2015:



Story Mode trailer

For those that didn't know or forgot, TellTale announced they would be doing a MineCraft game in the same vein as their other narrative player choice-centric games like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Tales from the Borderlands. With any luck, and because TT is working with another dev on this (Mojang) hopefully they used a different or improved engine to run the game. The engine they use for all their current games really is a bit of a mess so their games have had an uphill battle to be good despite it's engine. Story mode will be out sometime this year for every current platform available except Nintendo ones, of course.

interesting side note, Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) is one of the featured voice actors



Minecraft Windows 10 edition:

This version will drop Java and "...take advantage of the advanced technology and gaming platform provided by Windows 10", meaning cross platform play and using directX and such. It will allow cross play with PC and XBOX players and supports touch, controller, or KB/M inputs on the fly.

They will have a beta starting July 29th and current Minecraft PC players will get the game for free when it releases. New players will be able to purchase it for $10, for a limited time.

Dual wielding and shields are incoming. It of course makes perfect sense to be able to hold a sword in one hand and shield in the other but outside of that I figured it would be unnecessary. That is, until they gave the example of using a pick axe in one hand and holding a torch in the other. Brilliant

If you always wanted to be a lefty this will benefit you as well because you could use the left as your main hand



The End will get a revamp so that it's more than just the single island and the dragon. Speaking of the Ender Dragon, they plan to upgrade the PC version to be more in lines with the console version, which apparently is a more enjoyable version. You will also be able to craft ender crystals that can be used on the pillars to respawn the dragon. A new mob, the Shullker, will be added and it will shoot projectiles that will make you float when hit



Buff bars will be added to the UI in the top right corner. It will be two bars, the top showing which positive buffs are currently in effect, and the bottom is negative buffs.

On the subject of buffs, enchanted arrows are still a thing in the works and Mojang says they definitely will be coming in a future update. They are working on balancing them first so arrows don't easily become OP and break the game
