I play on Skullcrusher, and a buddy of mine is restarting some raids, so we've restarted our older more established guild...

PS - I have for the most part abandoned the USMG guild because nobody else has been on in over a year. If someone would like me to xfer the guild to them, let me know, and I will, otherwise I plan on disbanding the guild, or maybe xferring it to my bank toon for bag storage..

I played on a trial acct last weekend for an hour or two just to see if I wanted to come back and although the game has been king of the MMOs for so long, the mounts spinning on a dime, high fantasy, and relatively underwhelming graphics kinda dull it for me. I'm not knocking anyone for playing it and I'm not trying to start any sort of Inter-MMO trollfest, just stating some observations.

The next expansion will supposedly give you instant level 90 character, for the grind up to lvl 100.

I have 2 lvl 90's now (lvl 90 death knight, and a mage), and might possible do a 3rd (paladin), and then instant upgrade a 4th (possible a shaman) when the expansion releases.. idk, we'll see.

I love working on the quests though, and helping people, so I'd be happy to help you on a quest if you needed help..

Yeah I hear you. Maybe it deserves another look from me. Obviously those things don't bother me too much considering how much time I invested into the game back in the day, but at some point I guess I started to crave other things in an MMO, or maybe I just got burned out with the title, I don't know.... I think I remember hating the devs to no end with all the pooping they did on locks, and the only toon I have near or at the cap at any point in the game's life was a lock.

I'm glad they're doing the freebie upgrade to 90 for the next expansion, that should make it easier and more enticing to get a lot of their lost player base back. However, what level does that character have to be to be eligible for the upgrade?

I might look back into this game but I don't know. I don't currently have an MMORPG fix and like you said, WoW does lend itself to simple and non-committed gameplay, which is very nice.

I wasn't hard care so a casual gamer like me didnt have any fun in the end....

I hit the game HARD during the WotLK period. Was a member of a guild who was trying to compete for top 3 on the server, but I only saw I think 8 or 9 out of 12 H25 bosses down (when I joined, they already had three locks above me in the structure of the guild so it took me a while as an alt to even get bandwidth). We were doing heroics all the time, people would get so pissy and heated, overanalysis of damage logs was rampant, and the GL was generally a dick. This may be Greek to some people, but I chose a build back then which was focused a bit more on utility than DPS (I was demo, when destro i.e. fire mage with a pet was FotM/Y), gave some great buffs to the group which I couldn't do if we doubled up destro, and I saved NUMEROUS healers and DPSers with my lolguard (on fights where he was my pet, I always keep my eyes peeled for strays that the tanks aren't tracking properly/quickly enough) and my DPS numbers were still almost up to par with the fully geared destro lock that was our #1 lock. That, combined with the fact that my major DPS wasn't until the last 30% (I think) where I could then weave hastened soul fire and shadow bolt, meant that if we wiped before then, my numbers would look low.... Guild leader was a homer ass dick about all that stuff, I seriously wanted to just punch him in the face. Lots of times.

That was right around the time where gear score started becoming the main measuring stick IIRC. That was another thing that pissed me off, a couple times I'd get denied into a PUG H mode on gear score alone even though I knew I could carry my load easily and show them my achievements already in the raid they were telling me I couldn't do....

Damn it, I'm not even back in the game and my blood pressure is going up. I think subconsciously, the bad taste left in my mouth with the "hardcore" raid experience is what keeps me most from returning. At one point, I REALLY enjoyed this game. Then I started loathing it.

Maybe I should give it another look, but you're spot on about their sub model. They've got the pop and I think what retains a lot of people is that their friends still play it. So they go off and try another MMO, get bored with it or don't make social inroads, then come back to the familiarity and friends in WoW. They used to have good graphics relative to other MMORPGs at the time (nevermind F2P back then), but now they don't really have that, even against the F2P options.

In the end, I think I'd rather play a sub based game with friends as opposed to trying to make new friends in a slightly better game.

I'm SOOOOO pissed....I got a free laptop from the gov for going back to school...great little thing. descent specs and a hell of a lot of memory. So I dusted off the old wow BC and loaded it up. But before all that I downloaded league of legends thinking I could get a game or two out to test me system....and POOOOP....my laptop just shuts off....power it up and boom shuts off.

I can't even run LoL so o know incant run wow....untill they get a Mac version I'll be off PC games a little while longer...

Pisses me off piece of free shit...now I'm regulated to just the interwebs for school shit...

I'm like you Justin, I play for awhile, while it keeps my interest, then take a break. If there were more people to play with, I'd probably stick with it. Not saying that as a negative, just a point-of-fact.

I really like the DK, I have a level 90 DK, and he is just awesome to play with. My mage is fun too, and the two classes are so different to play.. That's probably why I like them. I have a lock, but I haven't invested more then 20 levels into him.. (I have the mage, and IDK, the dynamic just feels too similar)

I don't believe there is a minimum level requirement, nor is it limited to class.

One other thing I like about wow, is now you can queue any of the dungeons, and pug them in about 30 minutes. so any of that missed content, you can run through for grins.

I dont really feel like that have that requirement any more.. I mean, you really can still do that if you want, but its not really a requirement anymore to have fun.. IMO. I have fun now, and I'm still in nothing but greens and blues..

I'm farming for my first purple on my mage now, and will create it this weekend. (Not bad for only 7 days of logging in for 5 minutes to create a scroll of wisdom with my inscription profession.) -- Most of the high level gear, can be crafted.. (matter a fact, a good percentage of craftables is some of the best gear in the game.)

So they've really toned down the months and months of grinding and farming to make/get that 1 piece of gear.


Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Rift only free to play for like 20 levels.. I have Rift too, and I don't like they way the talent system works.. But heh - my Bard is freaking uber at lvl 24..

Its a fun game and it keeps changing/evolving. I quit because the wow community is as toxic as they come and just decided I had had enough. I could be convinced to xfer to the PvE server, if it was free. All of my friends other then 1 or 2, have quit. Do you know if you can xfer guilds?

You can transfer guilds but its $35 and there is a level criteria. Then you have to deal with toon transfers too. They wont transfer the guild and its membership. Its not really a good deal but If enough people wanted to do it so you had at least a solid 10 man every week and people could donate some money then it would be worth looking at a transfer. just my opinion.

Garona was my server from vanilla to MOP. I transferred my 2 toons to MalGanis at the start of MOP but unsubscribed for now because my friends don't play and it's almost too casual for me. I miss BC and even wrath. Felt like it was all dailey's and LFR. I might hop back in after midterms.

Well, its near impossible to screen, if you do open recruitment in the game. Its essentially, wide open to anyone looking for a guild.

I'm in a guild right now, called WoW Nerds, which seems fairly nice so far. They are small, only a lvl 6 guild, but they made me an officer, because I'm lvl 90.. lol

Well, if your guild is open recruitment, essentially, they can request to join on their own, without a GM or Officer tossing them an invite. Their request gets put into queue, and then an officer can simply approve them.

You wont need anything to super powerful in terms of graphics.. I actually turn my graphics down to get better framerate. Less screen-tearing and studdering.

I'd personally opt for the expansion first, its only $20. (or even just play without it) - You won't need it until lvl 85 anyway. Unless you already have a toon on Hellscream that's lvl 85, or you're planning to xfer over.

I bet you'd be just fine without any major upgrades.

EDIT2: It was originally set up so that this guild was another under the mmorpg.com banner for "US Military Gamers", but since we're "The Doomguard", I had to create a separate guild. As it sits now, we're a separate guild while mentioning US Military Gamers in our description. Is this the better implementation, or would it make more sense to put it under the existing USMG banner, and then mention we're actually called The Doomguard? The way it is seems ok to me but I just wanted to run it by you guys to see if there was a preference or an aspect to it that we hadn't thought of.

I took a break when my guild imploded just as DS dropped. At that point I'd main tanked normals while current all through Cata. I deleted all my toons except for my war tank only because he had all my BOA's on him and you can't just delete the toon while it's holding those, and I was feeling lazy and didn't want to single item delete twenty something BOA's. So I gave away 90k gold to a noobie in SW and walked away.
I totally forgot that USMG might have a guild, and I've been so busy lately I haven't been keeping up with forums. I bought MoP in August, leveled the tank to 90 and shelved him again. For shits and giggles I JUST got a new mage to 90 and joined a guild just because I was sick of the guild invite spam as I ran around. I even gave them permission to use my 25 man vent channel I still have from when I had my own guild during BC.

I don't have the money to transfer and faction change my toons, but I could make a new toon and level up till I can get my mains over if the guild takes off. Just sucks leveling without BOA's considering I've done it from 1 - 85 many times already and the bonus xp helps the tedium

Totally agree, and please feel free to shoot out invites to other lowbies, (everyone has ability to invite "ginvite") and let them know, we'd be happy to help leveling. I actually quite enjoy the old school content, and find myself frequently running back through it, as so much has changed since I had a lvl 1 toon.

I am actually planning to probably xfer at least 2 more of my characters over, both at differing levels. I have a lvl 30something panda monk, and a 70 something goblin shaman. I still haven't decided if and who, and when.. but I have it on my plate to do at some point.

I like WindWalker because of the simplicity of playing it. its a fun class, and not overly technical.

Find a training dummy, to setup and test all your attacks. In Org, they are in the warrior guild back in the valley of honor.

My lvl 83 Frost DPS Death Knight is now a lvl 85 Blood Tank Death Knight. I've never played a tank character before let alone a Blood Knight tank. Man, this guy can can take some punishment. Every time he strikes he gains health. I think I'm pretty much back into the swing of things.

I don't know if they suck, I think they are viable tanks, they just don't have all the utility that a Pally or a Warrior have, but they can take damage, heal themselves, and taunt. For a basic tank for group instances, and solo play, and maybe even offtanking, they are fine.
Its very dependant on gear, more so then their ability.

I'll probably switch him back to DPS, but for leveling the tank seems to work pretty good. I know the Zygor guide I pirated doesn't recommend it.

I only went from 55-64 so far with my DK but I can tell you Blood reminds me of BC era AffLock, where you can pull to your heart's desires and hack away endlessly due to health tapping. It seems way too easy at times, almost like autopilot or cheating. I haven't tried Frost or Unholy yet so I can't compare them for leveling, but Blood seems to be a great option so far. Not sure why Zygor doesn't recommend it; many of the guides I've looked at online have suggested Blood for leveling.

I have found that Zygor isn't all that consistent in terms of guilds for talents, progression.. I read Icyveins, and elitestjerks, for class and build, talents etc info.. Everything I've used from those 2 websites, has been fairly spot on in terms of good class builds for lvling..

for a DK, IMO, Frost and Blood are pretty good (I personally took frost over blood, and I didnt really like unholy at all). The pet is nice, but I dropped a lot in terms of DPS, so it wasn't really worth it. You can take the frost specialty, and sprinkle in some of the blood talents, to get heals, and still be equally awesome in terms of solo play.

I personally use Zygor, just for questing.. (I also have a torrented version) - I use icyveins and elitist jerks, for class/talents/gems, etc. and wowprofessions.com for professions..

I played unholy when I was leveling up..... till my older brother told me to try frost.... I did and leveling became extremely easy and fast. I recommend it very much and to check this site for stat priority and skill setup and talents and such. It was a huge difference.

I've been playing since wow beta, and I have 4 lvl 90s on Hellscream.
(Undead Mage, Pandarian Monk, Blood Elf DeathKnight, and BE Pally)
and 3 lvl 60-70s back on Skullcrusher (Hunter, Rogue, Druid)

Blizzard’s still-powerful MMO, World of Warcraft, is going through another ebb phase. Blizzard reports that subscriptions have dropped quarter to quarter by 800,000 subscribers.

Subscriptions now number 6.8 million, down from 7.6 million reported at the end of first quarter. The publisher says that the drop is geographically disproportionate, with a concentration in the Eastern hemisphere.

The drop is attributed to the current expansion’s end of life, and the decrease is in line with what happened during the last expansion transition phase.

Revenues are up, and Blizzard says that Warlords of Draenor pre-orders are 1.5 million. There is an expectation that there will be an uptick when the new expansion arrives. The current target for public release is fourth quarter 2014.

Correction: This story originally pinned current subscriptions at 6.4 million. The correct number is 6.8 million, making the drop 800,000 and not 1.2 million. Game Informer regrets the error.



Our Take
The explanation for the drop falls in line with historical patterns. It will be more telling to watch the uptick in Q4, when Warlords of Draenor is released.

WoW is still strong, but its power is waning as time goes on. The graphical updates to character classes currently rolling out give the game a much needed coat of paint. WoW has newer titles to compete with, and looking its best is part of competing well.

Awesome, I'd like to see the new zones of the last two expansions and experience a bit of the story and lore involved, but I didn't want to be stuck doing it forever.

it actually goes pretty fast, and is pretty fun, and you learn a lot about the lore from 80-85. 85-90 in Pandaria is equally fast, and a ton a fun, cause the quest are very dense from zone to zone, and give you a lot to do. :high5:

Got my shit pinched last night somehow. They took my 89 and stripped the account in usual fashion. Transferred the 89 to Kil'jaeden then insta-90'd a druid. In the process now of getting my money back and restoring the toon to Hellscream.

Same thing happened in GW2 a while back as a result of a breach of their own data (I had the authenticator and everything).... They didn't do squat to make it rights so I canceled and uninstalled.

It used to happen to people in Age of Conan a lot, never to me though. In that instance, Funcom simply told you "tough shit" even though the data was leaked/pulled via some internal means a lot of the time.

Yeah I have to say Blizzard is good about fixing things, I accidentally sent gold to another person and they jumped all over it before the person was able to open the mail, otherwise I would have lost it

It will tell you what servers you have tons on when you login. For 10 bucks, you could transfer your toon.

Just a thought.

And if you want to jump right in. For 60$ you can upgrade your ton to lvl 90, with all the gear and professions. Kinda a good deal if you don't wanna grind it out.

Thank you Razor for not people proofing your products in titanium strength plastic like logitech does. The mouse has a good feel, its hefty but not super massive and once I figure out how to use half the buttons on it ill update this little review.

Had the wired Naga, got the G600 to replace it just because the hardware and application suite seemed of higher quality with the Logitech.

Have they made improvements on the Naga since then? I think I got mine about two or three years ago so it might be a lot better now. Hopefully their drivers are more sorted too.

How do you like the G600?I have an MX518. which has been a great mouse, but I've had it forever, and I think its time for an upgrade.

I love it. It's really sturdy and stable, offered more customizability than my Naga, and the side buttons were patterned so you could better get an idea of exactly where your thumb is at all times. I don't know if Razer has made improvements to the Naga since I got mine though, so it may be better now... But comparing the two I have, the G600 is just much better all around IMO. Plus, having one suite to control the mouse, gamepad, and headset (G35) is nice. I'd still say the G600 isn't the best mouse for FPS and stuff that doesn't require so many buttons though. The G9X is much better with how its weighted and just shaped more nicely. The pinky finger button is awesome for MMOs where you have a separate sprint button (e.g. AoC). L+R to move forward, plus the third main button to sprint, it's alright I guess.

Paired with the G13, the G600 pretty cool. But I do have driver issues somewhat often due to the G13, never was able to figure out why. It seems to happen most with Dx11 games. I don't even run Dx11 any more, I've switched all my games to -dx9 and most crashing went away.

I haven't had a whole lot of issues with Razer stuff over the years like some people have. I've had the Naga, Lycosa, Lachesis, and I think one other keyboard but I can't remember what it was (it was mech). Only really bad issues I've had are driver related. All the hardware has stood up well, especially the Lycosa which has been the DD and gaming keyboard on my only at-home computer for over five years now.

Partial update to my Naga review, I believe this will be a never ending update since I will always find pros and cons. Ill keep it simple list for for now.

Pros:

Good feel, nice shape that forms to my hand and works well with my long fingers.
nice weight to it, not too heavy but not paper light
Setup was a breeze and the packaging wasn't people proof
The buttons on the side are not super small and easy to find.
Clicks seem smooth, don't have to force it, and at the same time its not super sensitive where you might miss click.


So-sos(not con or a pro, more personal dependent)

only 2 buttons on top (left, right and wheel) unlike the logitech where it has that 3rd right button
Seems to work well in FPS, I had well response and smooth movement playing BF4. On the contrary though the extra side buttons do take a bit to get used to in the FPS environment (in the so-sos because i need more testing to move it to pros or cons)
Naga lights up like a christmas tree at night


Cons:

Same button shapes (logitech has the different shaped buttons depending on the row) make it take little longer to get used to. this could also be I am not used to having side buttons.
Braided cord seems a little stiff, not sure if they are all like this but its my first mouse utilizing this type of cord
this might vary, where I purchased the mouse, the Naga was around $15 more than the logitech.
Only one color option (green)


Overall statement: I played around with both the Razor Naga and Logitech G600 at Best Buy for a good 2 hours earlier this week (so many annoying employees there). Overall both are great mice and have their pros and cos. The Naga durability seems higher in the side buttons and main clicks, while the logitech was higher in the mouse wheel and both were about equal on the body of the mouse. I personally recommend both. Both products are equally amazing and everything that came down to my purchase decision was based on personal preference. My hand fit the Naga better and I don't think I could get used to that ring finger button on the logitech. So my advice is to just go and play with them both and see what one suits you; either way I guarantee you will be happy with either purchase.
