US Military Gamers Article in the August 2010 Issue of OXM

The article reads as the following on page 46 of the August 2010 Issue of Official Xbox Magazine:


Videogames have been a common pastime for the members of the armed forced, but Terrell Pakeman found that most of the dominant military clans seemed to be for PC gamers. He wasn't a fan of the Live matchmaking's "unruly nature" and figured there had to be a whole untapped world of vets just like him who were just looking to have fun on Xbox 360.

So last September, Pakeman, an Air Force vet, decided to launch US Military Gamers, usmilitarygamers.com, in hopes of meeting more console players who share the same bond. "We all took the same oath," Pakeman says, "When you start playing with them, it's like you already known them."

Not surprisingly, the 100-plus-member clan tends to gravitate toward military-based games such as Modern Warfare 2, Gears of War, and Halo: Reach. However, Pakeman doesn't having experienced actual military combat gives you a leg up in, say, Modern warfare 2.

US military members might be recognized by a "UFMG" in their gamer tag, but it's a mostly non-competitive clan, and it's even open to civilians, just don't lie and say that you've been in the military if you haven't, Pakeman notes, as it's not really too hard to find out if you're lying.

Members are free to chat about almost anything on the clan's internet forums, but they don't exist for recruiting purposes. " We don't glorify going into the military," Pakeman tells us. "We try to serve as ambassadors."

WOW. People will at least see the small errors once they check us out here. BTW, I never spoke to Gary Locke so it seems Kevin Smith was doing some leg work to help him out. TLOG was contacted directly by the magazine, and wound up doing a phone interview. That's how that article came to be.

I'm glad they ran the article, imagine actual military personel playing games based on military stategy! Thats a shocker! Great article to introduce a lot of us gamers to the clan and glad I read it. I don't have a PS3 but I think it would be great if they would cover a similar story for all the PS3 players out there.

I actually just received this issue of OXM in the mail, thats how I found about the site and the gaming clan, and said hey its perfect. People who like to play wo/ the trash talking and used to be or are in the military, like I used to be.

I finally managed to get my butt to the local grocery store to get this issue. I couldn't help but glance at the other clans they had in the write up, I must laugh about the PMS Clan. I personally, would never want to associate myself with such a tag :lol: :lol: I mean really, bad enuf the crap women put up with in the lobbies but to have them think your a psychopath too..... Well hmmm actually that does have merit.
