Hey i like to start a new thread here to kinda document what type of craziness is going over here in Afghan. I know not to put any thing up OPSEC!.. but for the guys and girls that have been over here and Iraq before know it can get kinda hair raising . And of course i cant tell my wife She would straight out Freak!!! Kandahar has turned in to something like Balad was...and for all u OIF/OEF Vets can remember Balad was commonly referred to as Mortorrittaville...well KAF (Kandahar Air Field) have become know as Rocketrittaville. Most Attacks are one shot and the over or under shoot us but occasionally the hit something or some one. well around last night we had one @ around 2040ish the all clear was given quite quickly so u can tell it was complete miss! Thank goodness! well see if there is one today?we get 3-4 a week...hope not!

That sounds kind of about how it was when I was in Iraq. It can be scary when they come in close. Good luck to your and your group out there.
this was the longest night of my life, a mortar hit the FOB's AHA and started a fire. Lets just say everything from small arms, to Hellfire missles, to 155' copperheads. Where exploding all night long.
My M4, M21, and M24 where the cleanest they had ever been at the end of that week :D . We were confined to the barracks, until EOD had cleared all the unexploded ordnance from entire FOB.

Nothing like an explosion to start your day off. I remeber getting ready to head off our FOB when a car bomb detoonated a little ways away. shook everything hard, but the thing I remember most was the mushroom like cloud that just seemed to hang there forever.

this may be wrong of me. but does the sound of a mortar smacking down bring warm fuzzy feelings to anyone else?

I used to not be able to go to sleep at night until i heard the 2230 mortar attack on the fob i was at. we had an AHA hit also, but it was a lot farther away and during the day so wasnt quite as exciting..
We were pretty close to ASP Arlington, where they would detonate, i dont know how many tons of UXO every day at 1630.. i remember like it was yesterday the first one of those i whitnessed, none of the folks we were releiving bothered to tell us that that controlled det was going off.. we all thought we were dead, running for the bunkers while the 1ID guys laughed at us. But it was cool, because we got the flip side of the coin when the 101 came in to relieve us and did the same thing..
Anyone else get to see one of those? biggest mushroom cloud id ever seen.. every day.. sometimes theyd blow so much that the cieling tiles would lift up in the shokwave.. (styrofoam not the real ones your used to), but still pretty crazy.

Yep, I still get a little nervous when I hear fireworks and such. There was a car that went by a few weeks ago and it back fired in front of my house. It got the Ole ticker going and the GF just sat here saying it's ok it was a car, as I rolled my fat azz off the couch. Another thing have any of you been around a camp fire and smelled a smell that smells like CS gas??? That gets me at times to.

I was in Balad my second deployment. it is no longer called Morterville after my group of guys had something to say about it. we got it down from 50-80 a month to about 4. We owned A LOT of face. BALLS!
