View Full Version : [MULTI] Mass Effect 3
It depends on your Effective Military Strength not necessarily your Glactic Readiness Rating, the GRR is to help you if you dont have a high EMS rating. Heres the link that explains it:
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9665384 . But the destroy ending is the only one that has the extra bit at the end. Heres the indoc/hallucination theory link:

Ah I see. My EMS was around 7,900 or so....

So before I get this game and the ashes dlc what I really want to know is if the "additional content" is stuff that is already on the disk. Meaning does it take.5 seconds to download? I have been boycotting all EA games because of their shenanigans to stop the resale market and was wondering if this was more of the same but worse. I'm not going through my whole rant like I did with bf3 but my view is that if I buy I game I then own that game and it's mine to do what I want with. EA seems to want to lease it to me, at the same price it costs to own.if gamers continue to put up with it it will only get worse.
So I was wondering if this game came with on online cerberus code or something like it and if the launch dlc was already on the disk and something that the game should have just come with.

Despite impressive sales figures and overwhelmingly positive critical response (read our review) for Mass Effect 3, the conclusion to Commander Shepard’s space saga has been met with a number of heated controversies – including frustrations over the depiction of fan-favorite character Tali’Zorah as well as Mass Effect 1 character import problems. However, nothing has been more contentious than reaction to the various Mass Effect 3 endings.

I have been avoiding this thread until I finished the game (and if truth be told avoiding just about everything else as well). I spent the extra money on the DLC (even though I hate day one DLC) and feel that it was worth the money because it added flavor to the game. It is hands down better then the extra character from ME2. It's not something the average person "has" to have but will help you enjoy the game a little more. The game itself was a great addition to the franchise and I love that the game wrapped up so many things from previous games.
*Spoilers start here*
As far as the actual endings go...I feel they could have done better. The choice and concepts of the endings are OK I guess but each should have been different. So many choices I agonized over really did not even matter. I analyze choices to death in these games (took me thirty minutes to decide if those kids were ready for the front lines and that was a small decision) but I usually feel it is worth it. I romanced Tali in ME2 and I continued that during ME3. If you do that and see the scene's related to Rannoch (the Quarian homeworld) and listen to her talk about the future..that is what is missing from the end. It lacks real closure for the individual characters we have grown to love. Part of me thinks I would have had a better ending if I stopped playing at that point and just assumed Shep wiped out the reapers and retired with Tali. In the end though it was their game and they decided to have canned endings with no personal closure (aside from Eve and Joker if you pick the ending I did). I am just thankful this series was made in the first place. Six minutes of lame is acceptable for the sheer amount of awesome that comes before it.

While I respectfully disagree with you on the ending, which had been debated ad nauseum, you do hit on a huge point that I think a lot of the complainers missed. ME 3 is packed with "endings." Mordin ending the genophage, or if you lack Mordin whoever his replacemant is, and the resultant cooperation between Turians and Krogan. Massive resonating ending for any game, but only a stepping stone in this one. You mentioned Rannoch....and even if you're not romancing her, it's an amazing scene. Especially if you bring peace between the Quarians and Geth. Add the romance arc, and it's even better. The whole plotline with Liara.....as a friend no less. I've not once in this franchise been interested in romancing Liara. The one playthrough I did was an accident. Yet after seeing the side-story of "friendship Liara", I'm tempted to buy Genesis and replay through 2 again, just to have a romance in 3.
With all of these "endings", and let's face it, these are only the major ones and the minor ones are just as awesome....the final ending as it is, is absolutely diminished, because it's not possible to top them all outside of an hour long cinematic of epic proportions.
In the end though, I'm going to bitterly maintain that they did pull another epic moment out, and the story isn't over yet, and all the subtle clues they've dropped were intentional. Until they completely end all hope, in which case I'll be left to simply enjoy the ending I got. Destroyed Reapers and a living Shep.

From Ashes costs about $10.00, and the online pass is another $10.00, so realistically it'd probably be cheaper to just buy the game new. Unless your used price is very cheap.

Complaining to the FTC, while absolutely stupid and very much pathetic, almost makes a twisted kind of sense. But what exactly does lodging complaints with the Better Business Bureau, which is a voluntary "give us money and get a plaque" organization that Bioware isn't even a member of, accomplish?

I could not bring myself to do this. In fact I died about 3 times because I was taking to long to choose. I would start to walk one way then change my mind and go back lol. I even smoked a cigarette in between attempts to help me think. In 2 I was on the fence about the Geth and by the time it played out in 3 I was firmly in their corner. I could not let Legion's sacrafice be for nothing. Killing off the Geth and Eve was like killing off all the Krogan or Quarians..not an option for me personally. Control would have been a good option that allowed most species to live had I not listened to myself telling the Illusive Man how stupid he was for trying the same thing. The only option that felt right to me for the choices I made was to synthesis the races. In this way no mass genocide of a species and less chances for it to bite the galaxy in the butt down the road.

I do think that a complaint to the ftc and better business bureau is pretty lame.the game is in fact the game that was advertised and they didn't try to defraud or trick the consumer. You can't make a complaint over how a game or a movie ends or some content you didn't happen to like. Otherwise lucas would gave had to answer for jar jar binks and that last indiana jones movie. I really like bio ware, just not so much EA. I'm going to buy the game used and then get on online pass code off of ebay just out of spite. Cause I'm petty. Stupid EA.

It is possible he was lying and that was something I thought about. But in the end I just could not take that risk. I was way to attached to the Geth/Quarian issue and EDI. Yeah I noticed the eye color thing and have read some of the theory's about it but by that point I had made my choice.
Whether or not kid-bot was lying or it all was a failed Indoctrination attempt by Harbinger(which I hope it was), the thing that bothers me the most is the fact that for 3 whole games the damned Reapers kept saying that this outcome was inevitable and we "weren't capable" of understanding the truth....and then at the end of ME3, kid-bot explains it all....and not only is it easily comprehensive, it's just lame to boot. FAIL Bioware.

I am one of those people who also likes to listen to all the conversations that take place between NPC's during this game. It adds to the overall experience and immersion into the world. Like the lady trying to get her kid to her Asari bondmate's family or that guy who got the armor because his friend sold her vehicle but did not tell him. Story's like that are one of the reason's I love this series. That being said...does anyone know the outcome of that blonde girl on the citadel in the refugee ward waiting on her parents? The one talking to the Turian. I know how most of the rest end but somehow I missed that one.

They never show up, and she's mildly devastated. I kinda wanted to adopt her....or at least step in and help take care of her somehow. That's one of the conversations I'm annoyed was ambient and I wasn't able to interact in any way with.

I just chalk that up to the Reapers underestimating humanity. Kid-bot does say that Shep is the first to make it that far so it is not suprising to me that Shep might be the first to understand the truth. Although if that is the case...then all the other cycles were idiots.

Damn, I thought maybe the Turian would find her family at another refugee location or perhaps convince her to go somewhere safer. I was really hoping she was not on the citadel at the end. The one that really anoyed me was that woman who wanted to leave her deployed man for that Asari chick right up until the Asari started freaking because it was not as serious for her...then I couldnt stop laughing thinking thats what you get bitch.

True. In my opinon a large part of the reason Shep could understand the situation is because of his interactions with the Geth, Quarian and EDI. If he had no interaction with those groups he might not acknowledge life in that form. At least not as if it had a soul.

i stand by my choice of Synthesis. I just could kill out the synthetics, i grew attached to the Geth and EDI. After ME2 i was already a Geth lover becuz of Legion and the choices i made for his people. When he gave his life for the Geth to become independent and alive, i couldnt destroy the race. They made be synthetics but they feel and they live, just like EDI. So i stand by my decision and i welcome to see what my choice lead to ME4. I do have one thing to say, i hope Ash misses my Shep as she was my romance. Goodbye Ash, Shep will never forget the night he ravaged u in his bed lol.

I imagine it is similar to the side effect of gravity well projectors on Interdictor class cruisers in the Star Wars universe. These ships create a bubble that mimics the mass of a planet and prevent other ships from jumping to hyperspace. However, they also pull any ships going through the area out of hyperspace rather violently(often causing ship damage). If the Normandy was in the middle of a jump and the wave caught them, I could buy that it rips them out of the travel lane and jacks up the ship.
Mass Effect 3 has sparked much debate among fans and industry specialists alike since it came to store shelves weeks ago. With a highly controversial ending leaving many fans petitioning for alternatives, nobody was quite sure if change akin to the Fallout 3 ending was possible – or if players simply had to accept what was in the script.
http://gamerant.com/bioware-cofounder-mass-effect-3-endings-dlc-johnj-139277/
Mass Effect is more than just one of the most epic and comprehensive sci-fi stories ever told. It’s now also a platform for where video game players can enjoy multiplayer mayhem. While there was some apprehension towards BioWare and Electronic Arts adding such a gameplay element to Mass Effect 3, it was largely successful.
http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-multiplayer-updates-robk-139294/
It appears as if Mass Effect 3‘s own writers didn’t have anything to do with the game’s controversial ending. BioWare writer Patrick Weekes, who is known as user Takyris on the Penny Arcade forums, allegedly posted a message depicting in detail the writers’ involvement with the game’s ending.

I'm too lazy to look through the past upteen pages of replies ;) But, I do know, ME3 multiplayer does get pretty fun....but one thing is that I've gotten to 100% pretty quick, and so long as you at least play every day, it should stay that way. I've decided to replay through ME2 though so I can import that character and up my chances....I've gotten pretty good results so far with it; but I agree that the ending was a little confusing....however in the second ME, if you don't go through absolutely everything, including upgrading your ship, the ending sucks as well....it's kind of the same concept regarding bad endings....except Bioware added Multiplayer to the mix of building up your forces for the last installment of Mass Effect; I think that the fans honestly wanted something more....only time will tell with future DLC though...
However; if you guys want to play ME3 multiplayer, let me know!!

Just beat it and I don't know what to even think. After Mass Effect 2 I was left in shock about what was going to happen next... I was so certain that this follow-up would be game of the year then that happens? It's not that it wasn't an entertaining game but the story at the end was so all over the place. I can truly say that it was disappointing but nonetheless I'm glad I beat it and the series is complete. I just don't know where the possible DLC could go and what the point even is? I just didn't feel like there was anything epic about the end with boss fights or anything for that matter. When the hardest thing you fight is a banshee over and over again it's hard to raise the bar on difficulty. ME2 on Insanity was just that... a freakin' pain in the ass. I suppose I could try it for ME3 but I'm now lacking motivation. Anyways I'm always down for multi-player hit me up for it.

MW3's 3.2 on metacritic comes to mind in this instance.
I still maintain the ending isn't this terrible monstrosity so many rabid fans decry it as, and that there are so many epic moments in the game already, an ending that would satisfy everyone is all but impossible.

I agree here to an extent, Dave brings up some valid points. It's just the writing and script could have been SOOO much better. The lack of characters and multi-leveled developed storylines like there was in ME2 was discouraging within itself. The game lacked depth, it was a constant wait for this epic battle that you really truly didn't get a chance to be witness to. What the hell am I gathering 100 trillion ships for if I can't see the epic space battle for a solid 10 minutes. The story leading up to it was a 6/10 and the ending was a 2/10. ONLY because of what they done in the other two games. If this game was a standalone and it had some different features it might of have a higher rating. I've been fighting alongside the crew of the Normandy for 4 years now and it just wasn't satisfying. It's like going to bed with Natalie Portman and waking up with the ugly chick from The Drew Carey show that wears too much make-up. I'm hopeful for the DLC and the multiplayer is quite fun but like I said this game was a shoe in for Game of The Year and Bioware fell short.

Gonna venture pretty deeply in to spoiler territory, so deal with me.
I disagree that it was a constant wait for an epic battle. It was damn near a non-stop epic battle throughout the entirety. Smaller battles like the Turian moon and redeeming that Turian Lt., or rescuing Admiral Whatsisname on the Quarian planet . Small side battles that have you doing small things to push the war effort, like the N7 missions. The missions that bring in all of your companions from ME2 are pretty solid too. I enjoyed almost all of them, personally, and thought they were an awesome nod to the companions that they couldn't include. And then you have those huge galaxy defining conflicts, like the battle on Tachunka, destroying the reaper on the Quarren homeworld, and the battle on the Cerberus base. Then you have stuff like the battle on the Asari homeworld.
And I gotta disagree with the space battle being some huge drawn out cinematic. I think it was a decent length to give you a grasp of just what all is going on, without a massive battle that borders on annoyance. ME 2 was actually a bit too long, to be honest.
But I do agree that the ending could have been different. Was just talking with Steel though, and he brought up a good point. It's very likely that as invested in this series as so many people are, it's quite likely that any ending they had wouldn't have been good enough.
Anyway, I'm bored so take this with a grain of salt. I just like talking about the game. And we need to hook up for some multiplayer this weekend.

Attention Soldiers!!
This weekend, May 30th to Apr 1, Operation Raptor will be in effect. Operation Raptor will be an Alliance wide effort to take conscripts and train them in to solid combat veterans of the N7 initiative. The overall goal of this operation will be to promote a total of 150,000 N7 veterans to be part of the Alliance's Effective Military Strength. Individual goals will be to contribute 2 soldiers to the effort.
Those who succeed in their task of promoting two N7 operatives to the war effort will be rewarded with Commendation packs. Should the community as a whole promote the required 150,000 soldiers, then all those who participated will receive a Victory pack. These packs are similar to the Spectre packs available for 60,000 credits, and have a chance of containing special N7 weapons.
For Op Orders, please visit the included link, here: http://blog.bioware.com/2012/03/28/operation-raptor/.
As a side note, those N7 operatives who work under the PS3 operating systems should know that due to an issue with Sony, they will be unable to participate at this time, though ongoing attempts are being made to allow you access.
As a secondary side-note, prior to enlisting in this operation, ensure that the "Upload Gameplay Feedback" option, located in the Online section of the options menu, is turned on. Failing this will not allow Bioware to track and reward your hard work.

How much weight you have Shadow? You need to unlock them in the powers menu. If you dont have level 1 in that power you cant use it

I leveled up a few times and put some points in Biotic Charge if memory serves but could not activate it. Perhaps I will hop on later tonight to mess around. It was probably just operator error. I was not sure if I was missing something.

Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Free DLC Coming in Summer
Will this be the end of the Mass Effect 3 controversy?
April 5, 2012
by Keza MacDonald
BioWare has announced that it will be releasing extra ending content for Mass Effect 3 this summer in the form of free DLC.
The Mass Effect Extended Cut DLC will feature new cinematics and epilogue scenes that will expand upon the game's ending, providing extra detail and insight to fans. It will be available for free on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC - as long as you download it before April 2014.
Studio founder Dr Ray Muzyka commented that this was an ideal way to both keep the creative vision of Mass Effect 3 and appease fans unhappy with its ending. "Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding," he says.
"With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe."
Does this mark the end of the long-running Mass Effect 3 controversy, or just the beginning of the end? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I can reply again!!!
Anyway, looking forward to more DLC, which is always good. Anyway, for those of you who are looking at this as providing whole new endings....don't get your hopes up. Basically, it will provide clarity and context to the endings. And for those of you who were perfectly content with the ending...yes, this will push back other DLC. But there are apparently still a couple different DLC drops in various stages of completion.
If you participated in Operation: Raptor last weekend, and were able to promote your two characters, then you should have or will receive two commendation packs. One for promoting your two characters, one for the community promoting over 300k characters.
Also, this weekend will be Operation: Beachhead. All players, including PS3, will be able to gain a +25% experience boost over the weekend, from 6pm tonight to 5am Tuesday....PST, as a reward for successfully completing Operation: Raptor last weekend. So if anyone's around, I'll probably be on late tonight, and will definitely be on Saturday evening-ish.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T BEAT IT!!!
Just beat it, destroyed the Reapers, saved Anderson and Earth. Kinda messed up that you destroy the Geth (really F'd up, giving them free will, then death?) and EDI (she had to have a back up of herself saved somewhere) as well.
Wonder when the DLC will come out, explaining the endings.
Wrex and the Krogan clan?
Normandy and Crew?
Shepards LI? Mine being Liara.
The Relays? One could still be dormant.
All in all. Epic game with a so-so ending.

Even though this is a little behind the times, figured it's still good to have up.
The "indoctrination theory", which has Shepard going at it some more in DLC, has been officially nullified, but the upcoming DLC release will indeed expand upon the ramifications of your choices at the end. Here's what this ending DLC is...and isn't.
Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut.
http://blog.bioware.com/2012/04/05/mass-effect-3-extended-cut/
Also, in more happy news, the PS3 snafu's have seemingly been rectified, and as of this last weekend's Op, Operation Exorcist, PS3 members will get to participate in weekly ops as well. Congrats!!
Also, Bioware has just launched their Multiplayer Manifest, as part of their Bioware Social Network. Log in with your Bioware account, which is linked to your console, and you'll be able to view and track all of your unlocked content, as well as achievements, leaderboards, and Galaxy at War status.

The long awaited Extended Cut is now official.
The Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut is a downloadable content pack that will expand upon the events at the end of Mass Effect 3. Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, the Extended Cut will include deeper insight to Commander Shepard’s journey based on player choices during the war against the Reapers. The Extended Cut will be available to download at no additional charge on June 26th on Xbox 360 and PC and PlayStation 3.
http://www.masseffect.com/about/extended_cut/
Also, for those who are interested, Operation: Savage will commence today at 6pm Pacific. The mission is to kill 7,000,000 enemy soldiers, with a bonus reward for extracting from a match with a squad composed of only Krogan, Batarians, or Vorscha.

A bit of late-breaking news came out of Canada this evening, as BioWare's Chris Priestly confirmed (http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/14156277#14158345) that the next single player DLC for Mass Effect 3 (http://www.trueachievements.com/Mass-Effect-3/achievements.htm) would be titled "Omega" and is set for a release this Fall.
He then dropped another pseudo-bombshell by saying that BioWare was working on another Mass Effect game. While the idea of a new game isn't the biggest revelation since the disclosure of the catalyst, it is newsworthy that they are currently working on the next game in the Mass Effect universe.
Further details on these two points of interest are scant at this time, but Priestly said that more would be disclosed in the coming weeks.
The bigger story out of Canada is probably the departure of BioWare's founders, the doctors Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, who are both retiring from the industry to pursue other interests. Muzyka said (http://blog.bioware.com/2012/09/18/from-ray-muzyka/) that he'd be focusing on a new entrepreneurial venture. Zeschuk plans (http://blog.bioware.com/2012/09/18/from-greg-zeschuk/) to spend more time with loved ones and do some "personal passion-driven projects related to craft beer."
As always, be sure to stay locked on to TA for further news!

This is some exciting news. I am thinking that the fourth installment will not be a Sheppard story since he could've "died" in the 3rd one... of course it's not like it's the first time he's died.

Yeah. I want to say they confirmed way back in 3's marketing that it was the end of Shepard's story. And they've always talked about how much they can do with the universe. There are several stories they can swing just from characters in the trilogy, there's prequel Shepard, and there's a vast universe in which they can just make up a character. I'm just curious how they're going to match the scope of the previous games......and what type of game format they're going to use. I'm still hoping for an RTS entry. Would be awesome.

So since Mass Effect 3 graced us with it's presence, it has seen 2 pretty solid DLC packs.....Leviathan and Omega....as well as an extended cut of the ending and plenty of multiplayer DLC. In a suprise twist, that "EA bullshit stab at multi" has turned out to be pretty damn solid, and well after it's launch we're looking at another DLC on the horizon. Rumored to be named Reckoning, it will be a multiplayer based expansion. But unlike the current multiplayer, it looks like this will be more story-based.
According to some data miners, this expansion will use saved player decisions from the single-player to help fuel the scenarios you'll be facing...which leads to some suggestions that this will recreate some of the more epic single player battles in multiplayer format.
Also teased has been another single-player mission set to come, so even a year after launch, it appears that Bioware is still looking to keep it's players interested.
