Reading the last sentence makes me wonder if they're going to try come up with a CODMW adaptation of MAG:

In a recent conference call with investors, Activision Blizzard revealed a new Call of Duty, announced that a subscription for the series is in the works, and hinted that they might not release as many big, plastic peripherals this year.

According to Ars Technica, Call of Duty 7 will renew Activision Blizzard's annual assault on holiday sales charts in 2010. This isn't a huge surprise - the company has released a new Call of Duty game every single year for the past five years. However, they've never released a Call of Duty with a subscription plan, and that may change soon. During the conference call, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said, "If you think about the success we've had in other product categories on subscription, you can get a sense of the direction that we want to take that franchise."

That's right, Activision Blizzard is pondering a Calling Plan of Duty, though you probably won't see one in this year's game. That's because it's in development at traditionally conservative Treyarch Studios, not Infinity Ward, which made last year's best-selling game. Furthermore, Destructoid quotes a source which claims that Infinity Ward is hard at work on a Call of Duty massively-multiplayer online game, which certainly fits the profile of a subscription-based title.

I currently have little interest in what Treyarch is workin on, all the COD games they made that i have played so far sucked (WaW, COD3). I am curious as to what Infinity Ward is working on though, as i much preferred their games that i played (COD2, MW, MW2). I don't like the idea of paying monthly fees to play a game i already paid $65.84 for (the sales tax is up to 9.75% in my area)

I liked the Treyarch ran COD's (no homo) better than Infinity Ward. COD3 and WAW I'm able to get decent kills, but the others, there's just something about them that isn't right.
I'm with Max on this. The monthly fee would be a bit much after paying for the game and paying for Xbox Live.

I liked all COD's MW and WaW. I thought these games were great. Just don't know if I would want to spend more money to play a game monthly. That is one thing that I love about the PS3 right now. Granted it is not a lot to play online with the 360 I just don't want to pay it. We pay enough for the console the controllers and the games. If this game does do this. I think there will be more games to follow which would really irritate me. :twisted:

I haven't played much of this anyway, but it seems like there are plenty of people playing the non-dlc maps. It probably will be just the kids playing if it becomes subscription. My initial payment of $59.99 will be all they get from me.

There seems to be a bit of confusion so far with this Elite thing because while Bowling is reporting it a free service with paid extras (and I trust his word over the news sites), other gaming news sites, such as Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5806810/) and 1up (http://www.1up.com/news/call-of-duty-elite-long-rumored-subscription-service), are simply saying it's going to be a paid service as in, pay to access at all. I imagine they will be updating their jumped gun articles to reflect Bowlings statement shortly

I guess tomorrow we'll find out more and hopefully clear everything up

the video is pretty funny and very informative. So far this CoD Elite business is looking very content rich and FINALLY it sounds like they are trying to implement a more in-depth clan system. It would be nice if they made it to where when you formed a clan via the elite service your chosen tag was reserved in-game much like the 3arc tag is reserved. That way any old joe couldn't just slap on your clan's tags on a whim at the beginning of a match

As for the pay service, Activision says it will, "set a new gold standard for what the multiplayer and community experience for a console game can be." That post on g4 also includes a FAQ if anyone is interested and wants to read more. i was half expecting they'd go the Playstation Home route and make group/clan creation a paid service so i'm glad to see they are on the free list. Well clan creating and group joining are, they don't specify if group creating is free or not. I would also not be surprised to see a gamebattles sort of system implemented with tournaments where you have to pay an entry fee

I absolutely disagree that battlefront is the best series, as I'm still waiting for an X-Wing: Rogue Squadron sequel on current gen boxes, but BF3 would be a close second.

This new map is all CQC, very tight areas. WOW, I really like, but there are a couple things I don't. First is the sludge in the pressure plate room, lame. Second, even bigger problem, is how you get to pack a punch! WTH....you now have to wait for a crawler, otherwise you can't get everyone in position to open it! :mad:

The most important feature is access to all of that year's downloadable content. Not only will subscribers get access, they'll own the content so it doesn't disappear should the subscription come to an end. Given that four DLC releases over the course of a year would normally cost $60, this is immediately a good deal for any frequent DLC buyers.

That DLC will consist of more than just multiplayer maps -- there will be new modes and Spec Ops missions, too, with "20 pieces of content" in all. This will all be coming more often than the four-times-a-year schedule that Black Ops (http://www.1up.com/games/xbox360/cod-black-ops/) used; Elite subscribers will get new content on a monthly basis over the course of a "nine month DLC season." Specific numbers for how many maps, modes, and so on weren't shared.

so at $50 for a year subscription, it's easy to see how it would be a beneficial choice for a player that gets all the dlc. The way they talk about new dlc every month makes me wonder though, will we get a lot more maps this time around or are they just going to cut the regular map packs into smaller chunks to make it stretch? My suspicion is the latter, seeing monthly releases with 2 maps in it or something. I like the idea of dlc spec ops missions since that is something I always waited for in MW2 but never came. There is also stuff about premium videos and 8x more video storage room, weekly tourneys, etc but the dlc thing is all i really was interested in

A given and truthfully i hope they do give us old maps as well. There were lots that were fun to play on. And others that had me hating life. But still, updated older maps would be nice to see. Starting from MW1 to BO. The list would be huge. :D

We have the group already set up on Elite as #USMILITARYGAMERS. And if I'm seeing this right, we won't be able to get the clan started till MW3 is released though. We'll get that done right away though. You should just be able to look up the group and add it since I don't think there is an invite option.

Great. I hope this means we'll be connected together on elite but i doubt it. So you may need to create a USMG group for PS3 if the 360 and PS3 side aren't connected.

How long does it take for the competition results to show up properly?

I enlisted in a CTF defends one and it ended about 20 minutes ago and it just now updated with my final total (50 defends in 3 hours, the #1 guy got 147 but that's just absurd). It still shows up as saying i got silver but i ranked 51st place over all so that should put me into the gold bracket (top 10%) since the first listed silver person was 53rd place.....


edit: there it goes, gold badge for my first competition :) I guess we should just give it about 20-30 minutes after the competition ends for everything to update and award properly

You have to keep refreshing cause there only letting so many ppl on at once but you can get on the console app more likely if you can't get on the website

So three days after getting a clan invite, still unable to accept it apparently. Anytime I try on the website it kicks me to a generic "clans/group" page and freezes, making me go back to career. And it doesn't even show up on console. So damn annoying. Elite's issues are not even close to being resolved.


And apparently the word "hate" is censored on it's live feed post.

I called about elite problems, They said it should all be fixed by Christmas and the clan should go completely active then, with challenges and other stuff. They will also be clan vs clan stuff we can setup to get titles and emblems once completed. Sounds cool if they can pull it off, right now I can only get on via computer and half the stuff does not work.

If you're trying to accept an invite, try Mozilla, or any other non IE program. IE has had problems with clan invites.

I have a Mac and a PC and I asked Activision about it not working on my Mac and they feed me some line about elite not being compatible with Safari (or really even IE) and that the perferred application is Firefox. Sometimes it works on my Mac and sometimes it doesn't so its kind of a crap shoot.

Hope that somewhat answers your question. It may have been 'fixed' by now but that's what they told me back in early January.

ELITE is designed so horrible... it loads so slow... I have had to open multiple trouble tickets because of problems with the service. Right now I am having difficulty enlisting in operations... I guess it's a know issue and I've had an open support ticket since 2/26... we'll see when they get to it...
