Despite it being over 20 years since the crumbling of the Berlin Wall and dissolution of the Soviet Union, some speculate that the Cold War is still going on - Modern Warfare’s superterrorist Vladimir Makarov certainly demonstrated how such a scenario would play out.

I saw this too and I can't help but think that its way to early for this kind of stuff to have any validity at all. It would be kinda cool though. Black Ops was the first FPS game I ever played online so I thought it was great, but that's mostly because I didn't have anything to compare it to. I do know I was a lot less disappointment with that game than I have been with MW3, but that developer related not gameplay related.

It was assumed that when an Amazon listing for Black Ops 2 appeared on the French version of the site that Activision would be none too happy. What wasn’t expected was their post-leak response, which has seen them blacklist a number of French game publications for running the story.

Four times today MW3 started to lag very badly and the server timed out. I though by now they would be able to fix these issues.

To no surprise, a new Call of Duty is coming this fall from Treyarch and rumor has it that it’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, a direct sequel to the pre-Modern Warfare 3 best selling game ever. The news came from a mix of obvious speculation and a marketing ploy accidental posting on Amazon France which listed the game for pre-order.

From G4TV:

A few Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 multiplayer details may have been leaked via a thread on Activision's forums, which was later taken down by the publisher. The game hasn't even officially been announced, so you should keep in mind that posts like this often show up for upcoming games, claiming details that are later proven false. But, until Activision comes along and tells us otherwise, it's fun to speculate, right?

When Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing originally spoke on the nexr Call of Duty game, he said, "This year we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all-new epic first-person shooter title under the Call of Duty brand. From what we've seen to date, the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovations to the franchise."

The most important information we found while scouring the post was the alleged Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 release date. According to the post, the first-person-shooter has an expected release date of November 6, 2012. There will be a new multiplayer game mode, Escort, and Kill Confirmed from Modern Warfare 3 will make a return.

Read on for all of the details.

Game Modes

Escort, a new game mode.
Similar to Search and Destroy however a live player must be escorted to one of three areas (or two depending on the map) without being killed.
The match will have rounds, consisting of one life only.
Drop Zone and Kill Confirmed will return
Team Defender and Infected will not return
Pointstreaks

Will follow from Modern Warfare 3’s system
Larger emphasis on objectives
A bomb plant is worth 2 points
A neutral flag is worth 1, however an enemy flag is worth 2
A flag assist capture is worth 1, a capture is worth 2
The Specialist Pointstreak has be modified
2 kills now gets you 1 perk
The 4th kill gets you 2 more perks
The 6th kill gets you 3 more perks
The 8th Kill gets you 4 more perks
You do not get every perk when you reach 8 kills
Perks only become “Pro” when you have them Pro
RC XD will not return
Heat vision is a new Pointstreak reward. When you get the required points, you can activate this Pointstreak and your player pulls out a scope and attaches it to your weapon.
This scopes main advantage is it’s ability to detect enemies through most walls. Note, the scope can only be attached to primaries not including shotguns
Item Packages

Requires 5 points
Fall along side care packages and air drop traps.
Features a list of package items only Including ammo, mini gun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, and body armor
Prestiges

There will be 15 prestiges
There will be 50 ranks
Every two prestiges there is a 5 rank increase
The final prestige has 90 levels
ELITE 2.0

ELITE is being fully incorporated into Black Ops 2
Combat record has been modified and re-named as ELITE Stats
There will be a specific lobby for clan matches (new way of leveling clans)
Clan Tournaments can now be implemented
Removed

No MOAB or Nuke
No last stand
No death streaks
No flame thrower attachment
Map Design

Map design and size will be following Black Ops not Modern Warfare 3
Sniper Rifles

Improved sniper rifle usage.
No aim assist for any sniper rifle.
Less sway
Customization

No longer just perk 1 chooses the players appearance
Appearance is a combination of all perks and type of Pointstreak being used.
Hardcore

Larger emphasis on hardcore than ever before
No grenade launchers
Only vehicle guided rocket launchers permitted
Respawn timings decreased (for most modes)
1 bullet in the foot will no longer kill a person, a head or chest shot is usually required.
A person will now bleed out if severely injured.
Perk System 2.0

The Perk Pro system has been upgraded
There is now 2 options a perk can advance to.
Both require different challenges to unlock
Once the desired Pro version is unlocked, the player can select that as their “Perk Pro”.
Once selected, the only way to choose the other option is by entering prestige mode.
For example Perk slot 1 has the perk called Speed
Speed – Reduces the time taken to aim down the sight
Pro I – Swaps weapons faster
Pro II – Throws equipment faster
Combat Training

Will be returning with vast improvements.
Difficulty is no longer based on how long the bots take to start shooting.
Bots now have an advance AI system
Similar to the behavior seen in the MW3 Spec Ops survival
Remember, this is all unconfirmed information. But if even some of it turned out to be true, what do you like about the additions?

You mean this part?

The Specialist Pointstreak has be modified

The 6th kill gets you 3 more perks
The 8th Kill gets you 4 more perks
You do not get every perk when you reach 8 kills

That's just a modification to the Specialist killstreak package. In MW3, you get an additional perk at 2/4/6 kills, and get all perks at 8 kills. It replaces your assault or support killstreaks. All they're doing is getting rid of the "unlock all perks" bit, and giving you more perks per kill. The standard three that you can unlock and use won't change.

I think it's been every two years, switching between MW and BO for the past 3 years. But I could be wrong. I just hope it integrates well with Elite.

Not quite, Black Ops was introduced last year. Prior to that they had gone back to the WW2 well with World at War.

Yeah or something that combined flight sims and ground combat like a modern combo of Dust 514/Eve or a larger scale of BF3 - where you have to fly helis & jets like you would in reality, plan missions, rescue downed pilots, etc etc.

It ran at a lower FPS. I did better at it than MW2, but about the same as MW3. Gaming engine was different (modified WaW engine - I think IW 3 modified, whereas MW3 had an IW 5 engine).

I don't know. A lot of people didn't like BO1, but then a lot of people did. Who knows which one they will try to please? I would lean towards them running a faster FPS, because that's just what CoD is.

Black Ops 2 Info Coming in May?
Poster hints at upcoming reveal.
April 18, 2012

A leaked retail poster suggests that our first look at the next Call of Duty game is coming next month.

A picture of a poster obtained by Kotaku says to "return for debriefing" on May 2, 2012. Is this when we'll see the game revealed?

http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/122/1223257/blackops_1334776030.jpg

Previously, Activision announced that a new Call of Duty game is coming in 2012. While it hasn't been confirmed as Black Ops 2, Activision purchased blackops2.com earlier this year, and Amazon posted a listing for the game in France.

We've reached out to Activision about the poster and will update this story with any comment we receive.

Call of Duty Reveal Set for May 1st
Will it be Black Ops 2?
April 22, 2012

The next Call of Duty game will be revealed on May 1st. A tease on the franchise's official site has confirmed that a Call of Duty World Reveal will take place during the NBA Playoffs on TNT.

http://media.ign.com/games/image/article/122/1223526/cte_1335157607.jpg

It seems that the reveal will be followed with more information the following day, as supported by leaked marketing material pointing to May 2nd that emerged earlier this month. Activision has previously confirmed that a Call of Duty game will arrive in 2012, but the exact title has not been unveiled. However, several leaks, including a website and Amazon product listing suggest that it may be Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and additional evidence supports that theory.

According to sleuths on the NeoGAF Forums, the source code of the teaser page linked to above contains the following text:
"2012 Activision Publishing, Inc. Activision and Call of Duty are registered trademarks and Black Ops is a trademark of Activision Publishing, Inc. All other trademarks and trade names are the properties of their respective owners."

For now, Black Ops 2 can only be considered a rumor since we don't know exactly what this game will be called.

Proving that no gameplay or story hint is too small to go overlooked by internet sleuths, the official Call of Duty website has yet again been examined for more than obvious clues. Among the results is an embedded section of Morse Code confirming that the next release is, in fact, Black Ops 2. But given the recent reveals and continuing cryptic language, exactly what the game will turn out to be is still up in the air.

On the contrary, I thought MW3 was a much better game. MW2 had so many little things that just made it suck, although I will agree many of the maps were better.

Def CGish and no way in hell would anyone authorize someone to blow u a prototype. Hence prototype. That's unless they hate what they made and could care less if they did blow it up

Actually we blow up prototypes here on APG all the time =). It's to make sure it does what it's designed to do. If its armor, how much can it take. If its munition, how much damage does it do?

Not when ballistic testing. Munitions maybe. Not sure what they are blowing up today but my I'm pretty sure they are aiming for my building. One of the new ppl just screamed at the last explosion. Noob. One day I'm hoping they hit the parking lot and blow my car up =). This is definitely not a place for people with PTSD.

No. The guy would be hiding behind a blast shield. The ATC is having a live fire demo for Armed Forces Day. I want to go see it but have to be in Pittsburgh. Must be a big explosion if they are handing out ear protection to all that come to see. (probably little orange rubber ear plugs)

Yeah, no doubt... GRFS would take up the time until the next COD comes out. COD seems a lot like Apple right now, they come out with something new every year but it's just a few tweaks still around same gameplay. It works for both of them so why would they try and revolutionize anything??

They don't need to revolutionize jack! People always complain about this, but if you have a winning formula, why fuck it up? Little tweaks have a huge upside with very little risk whereas big changes can turnoff your base.

Agreed, but this winning formula has a lot of flaws as they have been tweaking it over the COD games, aka death streaks. Don't get me wrong I play COD and will most likely continue to do so. I just miss the tactical shooters that weren't so much spray and pray, but think about what you are doing and possible consenquences that may come fortwith. These games are meant for a younger generation though, so this is our future and us seasoned personnel will have to adjust as always.

Flaws to you and I, but these games are playtested across various demographics prior to release. We don't have to adjust, we just excel due to our playstyle. Noobs will always be noobs. That's just fodder for us.

This might be what Twizted is referring to:

‘Black Ops 2′ Future Setting Confirmed, Screenshots & Details Leaked

‘Black Ops 2′ details have leaked ahead of tonight’s reveal trailer. Screenshots, story details, and even more teases confirm a future war that once again brings the battle to America.

It’s official: The Cold War is back in Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 2 – and not because we’re returning to the 60′s so we can blast “Sympathy for the Devil” out of a swift boat whilst gunning down hordes of North Vietnamese militia as a creepy Russian manifests his psyche in our brains.

The Cold War in Black Ops 2 will be a future Cold War – a 21st Century, near-future exposition on terrifying potential of warfare, when a confluence of advanced technologies and next generation weaponry lie in the right (or wrong) hands.

Those are the story details, according to Eurogamer, that have leaked on the game’s official UK website pre-order page in advance of tonight’s NBA Playoff reveal. While the prevailing notion for quite some time was that Blacks Ops 2 would expand on the exploits of Alex Mason, taking players back to the real Cold War and perhaps Vietnam, the information affirms more recent teases – like the FPS Russia video of a quadrotor helicopter drone – that hinted at a future destination.

That’s not all, though. Tonight’s debut trailer has been set up on the UK CoD website and locked, but images have leaked to All Games Beta depicting scenes of rampant mass destruction in what looks to be another flaming American city (New York received the matchstick treatment in Modern Warfare 3) – possibly Los Angeles or Miami judging by the freeway congestion palm trees. Future weapons are on full display, as a bulky APC stampedes through the streets and waves of quadrotors, drones, and stealth fighters dot the sky. There’s also fresh box art that appears to bear the poster image we saw earlier today. Have a look:

http://cdn.gamerant.com/wp-content/uploads/Black-Ops-2-Screenshot-APC-Tank-570x320.jpg
It’s worth noting that some of the leaked images represent the larger make-up of the microscopic teasers Activision has been posting to the Call of Duty website. Another two have gone up today: One showing the cannon on the side of the above APC, while the other shows an aging man’s forearm – whose tattoos confirm the reappearance of Black Ops‘ Sgt. Frank Woods.

The addition of Woods – or anyone else from SOG team – is vital. It seemingly confirms that Black Ops 2 features some form of tie-in to the original Black Ops storyline, however entrenched in the future it may be. Does this mean that the Modern Warfare mythos of World War III is still accounted for as nations appear to collide once again? Or, is there also a chance that Black Ops 2 carves its own narrative into the 21st Century as wheelchair Woods/Mason explains how the Cold War never truly ended?

Ranters, let us know what you think about the latest – and most quite possibly most revealing – Black Ops 2 info yet. And be sure to stay tuned when we cover the upcoming reveal trailer set to air tonight.

Black Ops 2 Gameplay Details Revealed: RTS Elements, Branching Story And More
Posted Yesterday 9:01 PM - By Stephen Johnson

Call of Duty 2: Black Ops is official. Publisher Activision confirmed the title and November 13 release date for the game hours ago, and even showed off some amazingly impressive Black Ops 2 gameplay video in the first official BLOPS 2 trailer. But now it's time to get a bit more in-depth and take a look at some of the details Activision has revealed.

GAMEPLAY

Strike Force Mode: BlOPs 2 features non-linear sandbox gameplay that affects the branching storyline. These missions are integrated into the single-player campaign; think of them as hot-spots around the world, which you’ll be briefed on and assign a team to tackle. If there are three missions to choose from, choosing one will be a branch in the story.
Overwatch Mode: Strike Force missions allow players to "zoom out" on the battlefield and engage in RTS style play, directing troops and vehicles, and then hopping into them to engage in on-the-ground fighting.
Choice: Among the most interesting new innovations that will be featured in Black Ops 2 is the additions of a branching storyline in the single-player campaign. The game's story presents large and small choices at different times, and, according to Activision, the the plot will hinge on the choices you make and the outcome of battles you choose to fight. Major characters might live or die, and international relations might be affected by your actions.

STORY AND SETTING

Time Frame: Most of Black Ops 2 takes place in 2025, a future in which the military uses a variety of realistic, but future-tech weapons. But 2025 isn't the only time-setting -- in keeping with the first Black Ops, the narrative flashes back to earlier historical periods. In this case, the Cold War during the 1980s figures into the story prominently. (Check out our guide to the Black Ops 2 trailer's hidden locations for some background on why we think the Soviet Union's ill-fated invasion of Afghanistan and the US government's support for local insurgents could play into the Black Ops 2 story as well as the CIA's involvement with Panamanian dictator/drug lord Manuel Noriega.)
Plot: Black Ops 2 is a direct sequel to the first Black Ops. In BlOPS 2's future, oil has been replaced as the most important natural resource in favor of rare earth elements, those hard-to-find minerals that we need for cell phones and wireless routers...oh, and military equipment, of course. China has emerged as a greater super-power, threatening the world's peace.
Heroes: Alex Mason from Call of Duty: Black Ops is back, but most of the action here will center on Mason's son David. Frank Woods, whom we last thought was dead at the hands of the Viet Cong, will be our bridge between the future and the past. Whether other characters from past CoD games will appear remains to be revealed
Villain: A hero is only as good as his villain, and in this case, a new bad guy is entering the scene. Raul Menendez is determined to pit nations against one another. He's taken control of some of the U.S.'s technology, and has pit a drone fleet against the U.S.

WEAPONS AND VEHICLES

Drones: Black Ops 2 will feature a ton of near-future drone tech, including quadrocoptors, and the fearsome CLAW (Cognitive Land Assault Weapon), a four-legged armored mech with guns mounted upon it. See the screen shot above.
Optics: In the future, enhanced optics will allow us to target enemies behind wall as well as in cars.
Grenades: Grenades are now propelled by electronic charges, meaning you don't throw them as much as fire them.
VTOL Aircraft: Vertical take-off and landing aircraft (think Harrier jets) will appear in the game, and will allow hovering as well as jet-style flying.

MULTIPLAYER

Multiplayer changes: Developer Treyarch has promised to examine all aspects of the multiplayer experience and build a game that is balanced for a wide variety of players, but specific examples or features have yet to be announced.
eSports: Although no specifics have been discussed, Treyarch has promised that the game will be both competitive and fun to watch.
Social Media: Social media will be implemented in the game, although the details haven't been given yet.
Zombie Mode: Zombie mode will return, although in what form, we don't know yet. According to Treyarch, Zombies will be "Back in a big way." Treyarch promised it will be "the most ambitious zombies offering we’ve done."

Female characters are confirmed for Black Ops 2. Will they be in the multiplayer side of the house? TBD.

There Will Actually Be Women in the Next Call Of Duty
BY KIRK HAMILTON MAY 2, 2012 9:00 PM

Guns were always a given for the next Call of Duty. Women? We really did not expect them.

And yet when I saw the game in action last week, there they were. Women. Two of them in the press demo alone! Ye gods.

I went down to Call of Duty: Black Ops II developer Treyarch's studio in Santa Monica to take a gander at the latest entry in the massively popular, multi-billion-dollar shooter franchise. (A franchise which has historically featured about as many female characters as you'd find in your average men's room.)

The demo the press was shown involved a protracted, exuberant bit of megadestruction in the city of Los Angeles. As our controller-wielding demonstrator shot and grenaded his way through the city, he was regularly rescued by a female pilot named Anderson who flew a high-tech VTOL aircraft. Sure, she got injured at one point and the player-character had to take control of her plane. But so what? That didn't make her any less female.

Then again, plenty of military shooters, from Modern Warfare to Battlefield 3, have featured female pilots. But how about a female Head of State?

"We have to escort the President to safety!" shouted a soldier early in the demo. And with that, the gruff, burly dudes started escorting... a woman in a pantsuit through the warzone. Wait: you mean the President in this game is a woman too? Yup.

After that, the developers showed us a demo of their facial-capture tech. In addition to showing a motion-captured male actor portraying a soldier in the game, they showed us… yet another woman, speaking lines and emoting and everything. She started fighting back tears at one point. "Look at me. I said I wasn't going to do this," she said.

I asked Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia about the game's infusion of double-X-chromosomes. "There's a female character role in the game," he confirmed. "Not just the President and the fighter pilot; as we're working on characters and stories, it's something that we wanted to do. You saw the [motion capture] demo, and while that's not [her], there is a female character role in the game. We wanted to explore that part of storytelling. "

What part of storytelling is that you may ask? Why, the female part, of course. It's a whole other part. Of storytelling.

Call of Duty is known more for its popular multiplayer than its single-player stories. So, what about finally having playable female characters in multiplayer, a feature that the series has never included?

"We haven't talked about create-a-class in multiplayer yet."

Hmm. Results are inconclusive.

The first Black Ops bravely blazed a new path for women in games by casting Emmanuelle Chriqui as "The Numbers Lady." Specifically, they cast her lips and cigarette-holding hand, as she played a mostly faceless woman who read numbers into a microphone for about twenty seconds during the opening cinematic. This role earned her a Spike Video Game Award nomination in 2010.

It sure looks like Black Ops II is going to up the ante by including multiple female characters, giving them faces and names, and having them speak non-numerical dialogue.

A lot of people were bitching about it being too futuristic and being offput by that.....and I just can't see it. I'm reservedly looking forward to this one.....depends on the multiplayer implimentation.

Well when its set 15 years in the future and there's weird shit (that doesn't really exist) flying all over the place and tanks cruising around that look like they're from HALO... Not sure what isn't futuristic about that. Now the landscaping/settings aren't out of control futuristic but it's not "traditional" to the COD way of picking a conflict and "emulating it". That being said I also understand that we're running out of conflicts for them to make games out of. So I'm not "bitching" saying I won't buy it, rather I'm sharing MY opinion of what I saw. You don't have to see it that way but you also don't need to put down everyone else's opinions saying we're bitching.

i'm 100% sure that 99% of the people talking in this thread, reserved or not due to any revealed settings or info, will buy this game. it's inevitable, there is no point in trying to fight it. lol

I know I'll end up getting it too, and I'll do my best to enjoy it regardless. I'm probably the oddball of the bunch but singleplayer always outshines multiplayer to me. I Like to play a cool story and have fun with that on my own or in co-op, and then i get to multiplayer and take it for what it is. so long as the single player is good i feel satisfied enough

Yes you're apparently the oddball out of the bunch, not just because you like singleplayer over multiplayer, but because you don't own a XBox.... I agree though that I will most likely be getting this game unless I hear a bunch of people say it sucks...

max isnt odd? well may be he is a little J/K..nothing but love max.. but played BO on steam also.. i try to keep the mixup on all my platforms.. and honestly ive always liked the single player campaign better and then multiplayer is next.. its the story .. and this BO2 story i just read was going to be EPIC!! picks up as alex masons son.. AWESOME

as for it been weird shit... i watched Xplay and they reviewed and went to the studio's which they commented that they went to actual dod consultants that have taken things that are on drawing boards right as we speak for the Gov. .. but he also said most wont come to light due to budget and impractical real world use's but that they were trying to get that slight level of realizim with a mix of What If... the preview looks awesome... ill be getting for sure!!

I think the thing I like most about what has been revealed so far is that the maps are going to follow BO maps and not MW, as well as the sniping no auto aim assist. This could mean no quick scoping punks and maps that allow for sniping to be performed how it should be. Especially if you get some kills and unlock heat vision and are shooting campers through walls with a sniper rifle rail gun. lol

The plane-based UAV's are so blatantly not an issue that I shouldn't even be bringing those up, but will anyway.

As for the tanks.....you're actually right about those. Who the hell would want some gimp-dick robotic tank that walks around like an old-school star wars AT-AT, when you can be behind the controls of something like this:

or this:

I'm not at home to get pictures but i was talking about the weird looking plane at the begining that looked like it was from avitar :D I worked with drones and was in nv when they were testing the osprey so i know all about that kind of stuff so that's not what I'm talking about. But you kinda proved my point, they took 15 years and made it look like the Jetsons on steroids.

The vehicles you had though, holy piss those would have been way cooler. I think it would be awesome to have strykers (although i realize they aren't exactly futuristic).

I'm not saying the game looks like crap altogether, but it did look a little "gears of war" to me and i guess i didn't know what to expect so I'm a little let down. I'm sure it'll grow on me though as mw3 gets oldER and more details come out.

That being said I also understand that we're running out of conflicts for them to make games out of.

This is actually a relief and get's away from the fantasy bullshit of MW. We're in a cold war with China and they control 95% of the world's precious metals needed for tech. True. We become reliant on technology and "What happens when the enemy steals the keys?" A reality. A US drone was hacked and brought down unscathed in Iran. The Chinese are trying to hack the drone fleet constantly. Didn't a unit compromise drones by not reporting a virus lol? Cyber security is a big issue nowadays. Morseso than it was a decade ago so it's feasible for this to take place a decade into the future. Once we play the game they may fuck things up. However, if you listen to the premise from the monologue in the trailer, this is a very relevant game to the times we live in.

The weird looking plane is a hybrid of an Osprey and a Harrier or F35B.....all of which are very much real. The only difference is the enclosed blade system....which is also modeled on the Comanche helicopter, before it was canned. Another place you can see that blade design is the AD-150...which is currently being designed and marketed to the military, apparently the marines in particular.

A better hybrid though, would be the Doak DZ-4, which has been around since the 50's and an F35B.

This:

I don't see how current day active and in-development technology somehow makes your Jetson's point, sorry. Especially when the Jetson's version was being designed back in the 80's.

The AMV-211 is being developed right now as a civilian VTOL.

You might recognize the propeller design.......

Or the Vanguard Omniplane, being designed back in '59.

Oh, I'm totally chill about all this. It sounds like you may be taking this a little personally, though. The forums are for throwing out your opinions. They're also for discussing those opinions. Which you don't seem to understand, even though you were kind enough to point it out above. Your opinion of the game was largely negative, because there was too much that doesn't or can't exist within the games time setting. Which is a justification of your opinion that is pretty widespread. A justification that is also, well, wrong. I was pointing out with some examples why this is untrue. Then Pak threw in just how realistic the story setting is as well.

Having an opinion is great. But if you're going to get sand in your vag if someone challenges you when you try to justify your opinion.....maybe you should stop trying to justify it and just leave it as an opinion.

I'm not taking it personal bro, its just a game. You just 'seemed' to be overly excited to "prove me wrong" which if that was the case you must have a lot of free time on your hands. Reading over my post i can see why you thought i was trying to justify my position though, it didn't quite come out the way i meant it to. But all it was meant to be was a comparison to other futuristic games (i wasn't literally comparing things to the jetsons, lol). I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't disagree but maybe using a little tact when you feel the need to shoot down someone else's opinion would do you some good. We're all here for leisure and some of your arguments make you come of as a bit of an ass, which i can tell from this dialogue we've been having you're not.

Again no hard feeling just an observation :)

I'm with pak on this. The idea that in the near future we will become overly reliant on unmanned drones to fight are wars for us is an interesting and plausible theme. Some of the stuff does seem like they took pie in the sky future tech farther than it will really be in ten years but it is still plausible. But the game is going to be about being a regular guy getting the world out of the mess we got ourselves in. It looked like the core gamplay will still be about shooting people with a variety of guns, except with some new attachments. When you play it it will feel like cod. Also there will be zombies.

I'm on my phone, but I'll try to find the link to 48 things about Black Ops 2. This won't be the standard COD yearly update we've come to expect. Treyarch is looking to revitalize SP and maybe turn MP on its head. Nothing is sacred and can be cut out ie Killstreaks & Perks. Very intriguing!

How does innovating and improving, basically doing what all the haters claim CoD never does, translate to steamy shit? I really am curious on this one.

Thanks for the link Pak. I may actually play through the entire single player again. I'm actually pre-anticipating a CoD. After last year, it's kind of surprising.

Additionally, what is an innovation to one person may not be an innovation to another. Sorry but if I wanted to play a sci-fi FPS I'd probably be picking up the next halo (no offense to fans of halo). BUT I won't be because this isn't in my realm of interest. Either are horses?!
Therefore Good Day Sir!

Yes, BO was a modified WaW engine. No official release on what engine, but it's supposed to be 'new and improved', and better than any CoD game yet.

Randomly found this article, while looking up info on the engine and thought it was a pretty good read that hints a bit more at some of the areas they're trying to really make this game stand out from the rest. I'm a bit more excited.

http://oneofswords.com/2012/05/what-i-know-about-call-of-duty-black-ops-ii/

As for the Black Ops engine, apparently:

Call of Duty: Black Ops II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Black_Ops_II) is currently being developed on what is believed to be a further modified IW 3.0 engine. Texture blending has been improved due to a new technology called "reveal mapping" which compares tones between two textures and then blends them together. Also, there have been upgrades to the lighting engine which include HDR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDR) lighting, bounce lighting, self-shadowing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-shadowing), intersecting shadows and various other improvements. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Black_Ops_II) will also take advantage of DirectX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX) 11 video cards on the PC version of the game. It has also been confirmed that the "zombie" mode has been moved to the multiplayer portion of the engine which will allow for much more variety within this part of the game.

A lot of this is discussed in that article above.

If they can take that Strike Forces part of the game, and incorporate it in to a co-op Spec Ops mode, that would be above and beyond cool. The improved focus on Zombies is pretty awesome as well.

Also, why is it that in all the discussion we've had has no one mentioned that David Goyer is writing the script for this game? Don't know who Dave is? He wrote the first Black Ops, and more noticeably, wrote the script for Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Dark Knight Rises.

I actually really enjoyed the beta, knowing of course that some work will be done before the final game. It's very much a team based game, though....I don't see a lot of success lone-wolfing. Similar to BF3, hopefully the squad interface stays better than BF3's.

If you're talking about Black Ops being set in the near future, I'm actually pretty interested in how they're doing it. Especially because there seems to be, thus far, very little that is too "sci-fi" or a major stretch.

Black Ops II Zombies Teased
Grab your shotgun, it's going to get messy.

The official Call of Duty Twitter feed has revealed the first image teasing the return of zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The picture shows a woman resting a shotgun over her shoulder, holding a skull out in front of her, accompanied by the tagline, "Zombies are coming… Where's your shotgun?"
http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/122/1224234/call-of-duty-black-ops-ii-20120503031604083-000.jpg

Developer Treyarch first introduced Nazi Zombies – a survival horde mode – in Call of Duty: World at War, before making it bigger and better in the first Black Ops. While no specifics have been revealed about the zombie mode in Black Ops 2, Mark Lamia, Studio Head at Treyarch, said "If you like zombies you're going to be really happy with what we're doing with Black ops II. It's our biggest, most ambitious zombies ever".

Call of Duty: Black Ops II was officially unveiled earlier this week and promises to reinvigorate the series with a futuristic setting and strong narrative. Read IGN's in-depth preview (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/122/1224158p1.html) and make sure you know everything about Call of Duty: Black Ops II by checking out its Wiki page. Probably that there are playable females.....maybe this time around by choice.

Given that Zombies are tied in to the multiplayer instead of the singleplayer this time around.......that has intetesting implications.

Pakman3000
05-08-2012, 11:59
That's bullshit. Just like IW tried to ditch the COD title, Treyarch should do the same with Black Ops and run with it. It's ridiculous for IW to tie up 4-5 decades of conflict. This is the same incapable IW that since the Respawn exodus/braindrain, needed Raven, Sledgehammer and Beach Head to finish off this last entry. Amateurs. Treyarch is the only COD dev to innovate in the series when others have bitched about stagnation.

WaW: dismemberment, MP vehicles, zombies

BO: emblem creation, monetary progression system, gun game etc, Elite beta

BO2: Not even released and its trailer has created heated debates/discussion regarding technology & warfare, the disconnect or inhumanity of killing people with drones, cyberwarfare, etc

To clarify what was in someones earlier post zombies is going to use the mp engine, not necessarily be tied to the mp. Though being able to use your mp custom classes could easily be in it, and that would be cool.

Treyarch Head: New Engine not required to advance Black Ops 2 visuals
Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia has dismissed criticism of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2′s somewhat elderly engine.

Black Ops 2 will use of the same engine as several earlier entires in the Call of Duty franchise; it was first debuted in 2005 with Modern Warfare.

Despite this, Lamia told Activision community manager Dan Amrich’s One of Swords column that he feels the game will make a significant leap thanks to extensive improvements made to that “foundation”.

“People always ask me, ‘Is this a new engine?’ I liken it to people who live in an older house that has been remodeled,” he said.

“Just because you’re remodeling the house and it will look new or it will have a new kitchen, you don’t tear out the foundation, or break out some of the framing.

“Engines, each time they get touched, they change. The creators alter them; they don’t modify what they don’t need to, and then they alter what they need to. You can’t make a competitive product if you’re not upgrading that engine along the way.”

Lamia said that what people are really asking for is for Treyarch to “push” and that treyarch had considered using a new engine.

Why attempt to break in a new engine when you can continually improve the one you have? Especially when they're more than likely still developing a new engine for next year's new console announcement.

I thought the remodelling example was pretty fitting here.
