I'd say scope sway was an improvement, but everything else about recon was a step back. Scope glint was cool, but it was retarded when they were sitting in darkness and the light gave them away. Would have been nice if it had been realistic, but it was poorly implemented.

Yep they definitely took a step backward on the snipers from bc2 to bf3 IMO. I actually enjoyed sniping in bc2 but have a very hard time in bf3; it almost seems like they wanted to make the snipers in bf3 be more assault-in-your-face type of sniper instead of the sit-back-take-the-perfect-shot snipers in bc2.

I think BF3 made it more "Recon", less "Sniper". I hardly bother with the class on BF3 as I suck at it. I used it quite a bit in BC2 and actually liked it despite the fact that you couldn't go prone (which seems to me like a pretty important thing for a guy with a sniper rifle).

I enjoyed Recon many times. It's my least-used class (I think I've put 43 hours into it on Xbox, compared to around 75 for Assault and 65 for Engineer), but when I need it, it's very useful. I think there are some really dumb things (excessive scope glint, so much that except on open maps like Firestorm I never use 7x+ scopes), but overall it serves its purpose and a good Recon player can really help the team.
Honestly I think the lack of offensive gadgets for Recon really makes it important for team play. I think most of the people whining about that are Lone Wolves who don't play as a squad. If you're well-organized, a squad needs that Recon guy, and he can really help.

Yeah they made it better in the beta not such a dramatic sway, and the glint isnt as bad but still bad. You can still be in complete darkness and see the glint. There is a thread in the battlelog forums from DICE asking about the vapor trail. I encourage you to put your input about it and the glint.

I don't whine about it, but I sure notice that it sucks without good team play. I basically don't use scopes over 4x magnification and try to spot as well as I can while still trying to remain relevant to the fight. I suck at sniping. The gadgets are neat, but hard to be used effectively when you don't have a communicating squad. And I played most of my BF3 time on PC in pugs (which I agree is my own doing), so it was hard to be effective that way. I kinda lost interest in the class because of that.

The main difference to me was the update on movement mechanics. In BC2 you can't run in one direction while looking in another. That was THE biggest, most useful change they made when BF3 dropped. To me, of course. Others liked other improvements, but that one simple update changed the whole game for me.

Back on topic: I think that one of the more important aspects of BC1 and 2 is that the characters were memorable. I can't name the main characters from BF3 to save my life.
Sure, the characters from the CoD: MW series are also memorable, but that's where the ball was dropped as far as the campaign went for BF3 (that and it played like it was on rails at times).
BF3 still rules in the multiplayer category, IMO.

If another Bad Company is released I will be happy, I loved the campaign in those games. I even enjoyed the MP part, that was mostly because of playing with USMG but it was still fun.
