USMG TEAM FOR EXTRA LIFE 2013!

WOOHOO! Registration and team signup has opened for the Extra Life event in 2013! The game date it 11-2-13, so we have time to organize and get setup. Our staff here at USMG approached me to head up the team again this year, I'm very grateful and honored to be nominated. In working with our staff, we have decided to set our goal at $5000. This is almost double what we brought in last year, but very do-able since last year we jumped in late to the cause.

For those of you new to USMG, here is a quick rundown of the cause. The Extra Life is a 24hr gaming event with all the donations going to The Children's Miracle Network of hospitals. One of the cool aspects as a team member, any money you raise goes to the hospital of your choice when you sign up. It doesn't cost anything to sign up, but if you go with the "platinum" package, if you raise over $200 you get an Extra Life t-shirt.

The event itself is an "on your honor" system. There is no time tracking or score keeping, only your word that you'll game for 24hrs. This doesn't have to be 24hrs straight, it's whatever you want to do. As a gaming community, we try to coordinate times so we we'll have as many members to game with as possible. As any of our members who participated in the past can attest to, 24hrs of straight gaming is actually pretty hard to do! With that said, it's an absolute blast, and feels rewarding when your time is up. Last year our members were updating our facebook/twitter feeds as the night went on. It was fun to read where everyone was at, or how their drunken night/morning was going. :pop2:

This event is for a great cause! Almost all of us know someone, or have had children treated at one of these hospitals. Our slogan at USMG is "It's about the gamer next to you!", this event is what USMG is all about.

Had a pretty lengthy response on the phone, until my daughter turned it off. Don't ask me how the hell she figured it out, but she did.

Anyway, I can tell you from first hand experience that this is a charity that is absolutely worth every penny they receive. What they do is pure and simply amazing.

I signed up last week when I got an email about it, but as soon as I finish up my profile, I'll be jumping in again.

It's more hunter orange, is a lot lighter in reality. The main shirt is closer to the lettering color, and the letters are bright yellow. Still cool to have.

Top fundraisers also got a set of dice, they're pretty awesome. Had to grab the pic off the net, not sure where mine wandered off to.

This is the goal that you as a member are gonna try to raise by getting sponsors, friend, family, etc. to donate to your cause. If you go with a platinum account, it's $200 min. This is just a goal, nothing happens if you don't make it. If you make the $200, and your platinum, then you get a shirt. The team total is figured by adding all the individual members donations.

To join the team, it's free unless you get the platinum account, which cost you $15.

Thanks man, she's my little hellion. She started her terrible 2's about 6 months early. I'm fairly certain she did it to make up for lost time in the hospital.

The amazing thing is that throughout the whole ordeal, she's been such a happy child.

Well, the thing is..... it's an adult shirt that represents a children's organization. The only people actually getting the shirt will be the ones who pay for premium and raise $200.

That sad, you have to remember that it epitamizes gaming as a whole, and participants will be playing everything from CoD to Madden to Lord of the Rings Online, as well as table-top games, board games, etc. Many participants won't even see a console, much less a shooter.

Little story for you guys.

Had to go to the hospital the other day for one of my daughters annual follow-up visits......make sure her current dosage is okay, she's not in rejection, that sort of joy.

So since we're there pretty much all day, we always go visit the nurses who took care of my daughter. 9 months post transplant, they still know us on the floor. Still remember the crap we were dealing with at the time. And still go out of their way to make my daughter smile.

From top to bottom, this organization is utterly amazing. Its not just the kids you're helping, its entire families who are benefitting from this. And I can tell you from first hand experience, its lifesaving.

She was diagnosed with myocarditis....it's an inflammation of the heart muscle, she was 5

She has had no symptoms now for going on three years and the care she received both in Rhode Island, where my donations are going, and here in NJ have been great. Like I've said before we were lucky to take her home. This event is something that is very important to me and my daughter....can't wait!
