Here is a short expo on this great title.

Battlefield 3 is the true successor to Battlefield 2. Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign – all straight out of the box. As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound? All this built with our powerful new game engine Frostbite 2, which you’ll hear and see a lot of in the months leading up to launch. For the full reveal on Battlefield 3, stay tuned for links to our cover stories hitting the gaming press throughout February, starting with Game Informer right now.

the trailer makes one thing exceedingly clear: Battlefield 3 is aimed squarely at Call of Duty players, with an amped-up, all action approach.

Electronic Arts has been vocal about its desire to dominate the first person shooter market. They missed that mark with Medal of Honor (which is nevertheless getting another installment), and as popular as Battlefield Bad Company 2 was, it never came close to reaching Black Ops heights in sales terms.
Battlefield 3 could be the game that finally realizes EA’s ambitions for the FPS genre.

The pre-order version of the game, which is simply going by Battlefield 3 Limited Edition, will come with some free content to build upon the experience in-game. By pre-ordering, you will receive the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand expansion pack at no additional charge – free DLC, the way we like it.

The expansion pack includes four maps from Battlefield 2, fully revamped with the updated Frostbite 2 engine with enhanced physics and visuals. Also in the pack are weapons and vehicles from Battlefield 2, as well as additional achievements, trophies and rewards to unlock.

I'm mildly worried about it being targeted towards the CoD kiddies....hopefully they just mean action instead of "camp, camp, camp, airstrike, attack dogs, camp, stab from 10 feet away, halo jump to prone, napalm, camp."

If they break my Battlefield in order to copy CoD, Imma be pissed.

BF3 and its incredible marketing budget will do what the Bad Company games failed to do: start appealing to players who want to try out something that offers a different type of reward, a change of pace, and a more realistic experience than Call of Duty. The arcade values of the CoD games are certainly what leads to their huge success among hardcore gamers — their gameplay is immediately rewarding and fast paced. Battlefield, though, is much more rewarding to players who want to be part of a team rather than just a gung-ho gamer. It’s fun trying to keep my teammates alive with a defibrillator, throwing out med packs, and being useful. Battlefield isn’t a franchise that is conducive to the kind of player who wants to be the one man who can win a match by player kills alone.

Battlefield 3 has already impressed us with near photo-realistic visuals, but now the game’s executive producer has warned that while the console versions of the game may still be the best gamers have ever seen, there are going to be a few disappointed fans who notice the differences.

“What we’re showing on PC might look better than on console…but what we’ll show on console doesn’t look worse than any other game out there. It’s probably even better than every other game out there on console.
“Most people will be very positive because they might be afraid that it won’t look as good as other games and it will, and some people will of course be disappointed that it doesn’t look like the PC version.”

While speaking with Gamer, a Norwegian game magazine, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach made it clear that Battlefield 3 “will have the largest maps we have ever made”. This is in contrast to Call of Duty’s smaller maps, which are geared toward shorter sessions of play.

Bach also revealed that Battlefield 3‘s multiplayer will only support 64 players on PC, but also feature multiple vehicle types including varying modes of aircraft and armor units.

Even though the console versions will look amazing, the developers at DICE have already confirmed that the PC version will be the best

Well, the favortism I understand, since Battlefield has almost always been pc first. I'm just annoyed that it's a pc feature because pc players "have been clamoring for the return of 64 man matches." If I'd have known that, I'd have been bitching for console as well.

I guess I'm jaded. I loved the huge numbers from PC matches, and don't get to expererience those large scale fights on console.

Battlefield 3 preorder DLC
IGN.com

Today DICE revealed the first bits of info on an expansion pack coming to Battlefield 3 for those who pre-order the limited edition of the game: Back to Karkand.

This multiplayer pack adds four maps from Battlefield 2 as well as classic "weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, [and] new achievements/trophies" to the new game's lineup.

The announced maps in this expansion are:
Strike at Karkand

Gulf of Oman

Sharqi Peninsula

The maps have been "re-mastered using Frostbite 2," Battlefield 3's new engine. There is no word yet on release or pricing details for anyone who wants the map but does not preorder the game.

Check out the Battlefield 3 basics page for more information on this fall's shooter.

Some fans were concerned that in-game items like the “lethal armor-piercing flechette ammo” for the DAO-12 shotgun, available via pre-order deals, would compromise Battlefield 3‘s multiplayer balance.

Alan Kertz, Senior Gameplay Designer on Battlefield 3, heard fans’ concerns and took to Twitter to in an attempt to allay any fears gamers might have about the game’s balance. In a series of tweets, Kertz made it clear that he wanted the game “to feel as balanced as humanly possible.”

there was no way to increase a player’s health, lower the damage they take from bullets, or increase the damage done. According to Kertz, the armor piercing ammo will have some material penetration abilities while the regular ammo little have little to none.

New Battlefield 3 News: Co-Op Campaign, Team Deathmatch, Battlefield Battlelog
by Pete Davison June 03, 2011 11:40 AM PT
EA has revealed some further details about the upcoming Battlefield 3, including what it will and won't be showing at E3.

Everything that's been seen of Battlefield 3 so far makes it look pretty spectacular, and a worthy rival to CoD's "best game involving soldiers running around shooting each other" crown. Today, EA has shared a few additional details about the game, including a familiar-sounding "web destination" feature.

The company will be showing off both single player and multiplayer gameplay at E3. The multiplayer map on show is called "Operation Métro" and features both large-scale outdoor conflict and close-quarters combat. EA promises a "physical battlefield" where players can disable vehicles, go prone, mount weapons, lay down suppressive fire "and more."

Not on display at E3 is the cooperative single player campaign or the Team Deathmatch mode.

Also not on display -- but potentially far more interesting -- is this: the Battlefield 3 Battlelog web destination. Stop me when this sounds familiar: players will have access to "powerful social tools, feeds and detailed player stats" and will be able to "manage [their] friends lists, squad up, create platoons, use voice chat and follow your friends' progress in real-time, and more." Hm, sounds a little similar to Call of Duty Elite, doesn't it? Well yes, but for one important difference:
"Battlelog will be available for the monthly fee of (drum roll)... zero dollars," said Karl Magnus Troedsson, General Manager of DICE.

Point to EA and DICE, I feel.

Is it still going to be 4 to a squad? It would be great if we could get chat between the squads somehow?

i asked these questions on twitter during the PS blog live interview about 30 minutes ago but they didn't get to my question. Info I did take away from the interview though:

- No kill streaks. period. They said they want to stay away from that arcade style and don't want just players with the most kills being rewarded. Instead they go with rewarding points by action like headshots, suppressive fire, etc. BFBC2 players should already be familiar with the way they do point rewards

- Collecting dog tags via knifing is for sure making a return

- They borrowed tech from FIFA 12 for character movement. what that means for us is more fluid, realistic movement of characters

- The dev in the interview, whom I don't recall his name but he was the executive something or other of the game, said they strive to make a game that plays and looks equally as well on all platforms so visually we should see little difference in the ps3 version vs. the pc version that all the previews have been based on so far. I would assume the same applies to the 360 version

It would be interesting to see future intentions of which system the majority will go with on this one. I'm VERY interested in this on the PC but I don't want to be the only one. I'm also very willing to go on the PS3 with this as well.

It would be interesting to see future intentions of which system the majority will go with on this one. I'm VERY interested in this on the PC but I don't want to be the only one. I'm also very willing to go on the PS3 with this as well.

Already pre-ordered on 360. Looking forward to this game, hope to see a strong clan presence.

Sorry to get this posted late, but I actually went out into the real world for a while today and didn't check Twitter until about 15 minutes ago. Might want to get your DVRs ready...check this:

Late Night

Last week at E3 was amazing for Battlefield 3, but there was one question that stood out from the rest of the pack: When do we get to see Battlefield 3 on consoles? Well, you may want to pay attention to this next bit...

This Thursday night (June 16), Battlefield 3 will be appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, but more importantly, we’ll be playing the game on the PlayStation 3. That’s right! We’ll be giving you the world premiere of Battlefield 3 on consoles this Thursday night when DICE’s Johan Dohl takes the stage and gives Jimmy the first crack at Battlefield 3 for the PlayStation 3. Be sure to tune in, or set your DVR to record, for the world premiere console gameplay of Battlefield 3 on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this Thursday on NBC at 12:35/11:35C (http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/)!SOURCE:
http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/06/15/late-night.aspx

EDIT FOR ADDITIONAL NOTE:

Looks like BF3 was nominated for no less than 40 awards at E3, and came away with 20. Looking at the list, I see awards for "Best FPS" and "Best Multiplayer". Now THAT'S epic!

See for yourself: http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/blog/e3-awards-nominations-battlefield-3

After much discussion with my Son (he's 14 and lives in Illinois with his mom) we both decided to pre-order BF3 for the PC instead of either console. He's got a 360 and I'm a PS3'r. We wanted to play this one together, and I wasn't going to buy an Xbox or him a PS3. :) Sooo, PC Battlefield 3 it is.

That being said, I will be opening up a dedicated server for BF3 if any other PC players are interested.

Looks like there was going to be a bit of controversy surrounding some pre-order DLC and exclusives. Like a trustworthy brand name should, DICE has addressed the issue:

Physical Warfare Pack available to all Battlefield 3 players later this year

COMMENTS: 215 (http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/06/16/physical-warfare-pack-available-to-all-battlefield-3-players.aspx#comments) (Login Required to Comment) (http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/06/16/physical-warfare-pack-available-to-all-battlefield-3-players.aspx#comments)

A point of clarification for all of our Battlefield fans. We will unlock the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack (http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/05/23/pwp.aspx) to all Battlefield 3 players later this year – for free. Read on for more details on this and Back to Karkand.

So maybe this is stating the obvious, but all of us at DICE are here because of our passion for games and the passion to bring you the games we too love to play. I always knew our pre-order offers for Battlefield 3 (http://www.battlefield.com/) would be open to misunderstandings. This post is an attempt by me to answer any questions you have.

I would like to start by clarifying that the Physical Warfare Pack is a time-based exclusive. If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3 at a retailer carrying the Physical Warfare Pack, don’t worry. We will unlock the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack for free to all Battlefield 3 players later this year.

The Physical Warfare Pack will be available as a pre-order bonus all over the globe. Right now, the UK is the only country where it has been announced, but stay tuned to get constant updates on where you can pick this up in your country. And remember, if you do not pre-order, you will still get access to this content at a later date, free of charge. If you do pre-order, you will get access to it from day one.

For Battlefield: Bad Company 2, many in the Battlefield community were very vocal about wanting additional, new maps to expand the multiplayer experience. With Battlefield 3, we want to make sure we can increase your library of maps quicker than we did for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. We also want to give you something special for pre-ordering, as pre-ordering is basically your way of saying you believe in DICE and Battlefield 3. When we announced that everybody who pre-orders Battlefield 3 would get an entire future expansion pack at no extra charge, I knew we had created a very generous pre-order offer.

Back to Karkand (http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/05/10/Back-to-Karkand.aspx) is a massive, themed expansion pack available a period of time after the base game, developed by a separate team here at DICE -- the same team that brought you Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. If you played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, you have a pretty good idea about the scope and ambition of our expansion packs. This is so much more than just four remixed maps.

If you pre-order Battlefield 3, you will be able to play Back to Karkand at no extra charge as soon as it is released, but it is not day one DLC and it is not on the base game disc. We think it’s a sweet deal, and it’s available to everyone everywhere. If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3, you can still buy Back to Karkand separately and play it as soon as it is released, the very same date as anyone who pre-ordered. In other words, there is no segmentation of the community when we launch the base game.

There are more pre-order offers for Battlefield 3 out there, and in order to try and avoid any confusion we will return within the next couple of weeks to detail all of them as well.

As always, post any questions you have here, in our forums (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-3/), on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/battlefield), or Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/battlefield). We are listening and value your opinion.

Cheers,

There is a rumor circulating that BattleRecorder (similar to CoD: BO Theater Mode) may be included in BF3. It's just a rumor though. See for yourself at this link: http://multi.systemlink.me/2011/06/recording-gameplay-accidentally-reveaed.html

Our U.K. BF3 fans (or Lady herself, as I think she's the only one from the U.K. with us) will be getting a pre-order offer from Play.com with DLC featuring five exclusive dog tags:

http://bf3blog.com/2011/06/yet-another-battlefield-3-pre-order-bonus-time-time-dog-tags/

And finally, for those of you who like to play sniper (booooooo!!), you'll enjoy this note that says you will enjoy the benefit of bipod support:

all well deserved awards too, BF3 blew the lid off E3 this year

even if the rumored battle recorder mode ends up being false I don't think it will matter much since their BattleLog (COD Elite competitor) would probably do the same thing anyways with more features too.

custom dog tags sounds pretty cool for a preorder bonus, it's a nice little treat that isn't grounds for anyone to cry unfair advantage over

Found this via Twitter today. Good info for planning a strategy:

Battlefield 3 will feature 4 man squads like in Bad Company 2, however, according to DICE’s Alan Kertz, who once again confirmed some new info via Twitter (https://twitter.com/#%21/Demize99/status/82788457973428224), squad spawning has changed compared to Bad Company 2.

In Battlefield 3, the squad members can only spawn on the squad leader, while the squad leader can spawn on any squad member. This seems to be the right way to do it, as Kertz points out: “it keeps pace up without tons of spawns”. One of the (minor) problems in Bad Company 2 was that any squad member could spawn on any squad member, meaning, for instance, one player camping behind enemy lines could spawn 3 additional squad mates.

The new system resembles a lot like Battlefield 2, where squad mates could only spawn on the squad leader, while the squad leader had to spawn at the spawn point. on the flip side, this led to a lot of “squad hopping”, whereby a player who died would hop to a squad with a leader closest to the action, and spawn on him. Squad hopping was later fixed in a patch.

God that is the one thing that irritates me about BC2 is the 4 person fireteams... I don't know if it was bad before how the spawning was set up. All you would have to do if find that guy camping and letting his team spawn off him.

Another reason I'm getting this for the PC instead of the PS3, (other than my son getting it on the PC also so we can play together)...

PS3, no dedicated servers. PC, dedicated servers. Servers with the words, "tactical", or "strategic". Server in game messages discouraging people from run n' gun COD style. Encouraging them to Aim, crouch, check their corners, flashbang those rooms before going in, communicate, etc.

BC2 on the PS3 felt to much like a fancy COD to me. Without the dedicated servers, everyone got thrown in a game full of people who ran around like Rambo spraying bullets and not attempting at all to stay alive.

I've no doubt that BF3 will be freaking awesome on the PS3. It's just that I'm going for the tactical gaming experience that I enjoy on the PC with dedicated servers. And yes, I will pony up for my own server when BF3 lands. If anyone else is going the PC route, please keep in touch.

Excellent. Go for the PC version. BF3 is primarily being developed for the PC. Why not get all the game has to offer? Of course I'm a PC gamer primarily so my opinion's a little biased. Yeah, I've already preordered it for the PC. The only problem with running a dedicated server is... It looks like it might be roughly $1.24 a slot... :( Yikes...

Soooo, that being said... Here's my plan...

* 20 to 24 Slot server (instead of the big o' 64 as that will be expensive)
* The server name will have the word "Tactical" included
* Various server rules with side bar messages for visitors playing reflecting a few of these options:
* No Bunny Hopping
* Rockets are NOT a main weapon and are for vehicles only
* No base camping
* Always be thinking Tactical
* Specific game night ideas I'm kicking around such as:
* Semi Auto Tuesdays (No full auto weapons allowed on Tuesdays)
* Pistol Thursdays
* Whatever else I can think of

Anyway, that's the plan. Sooooo... PC Players going for Battlefield 3, be sure to add me to your steam! (tw0sh0t)

I'd be willing to contribute to a decent group. I'm looking for a place to call home for BF3. I googled "Military Gamers" and found this site. Among others, it seems squared away.

I like all of your ideas except for the Tuesday and Thursday idea. But the answer to that would be simple, I just wouldn't participate on those nights. I understand fully where you're going with that... eliminate the running and gunning. But personally I like being able to chose any weapon the game has to offer without worry. Ironically, I use the M1 Garand most of the time. (Semi-automatic of course) I just love that ping of the clip ejecting after 8 rounds!

"Though certain segments of both Call of Duty’s and Battlefield 3’s publishing and development partners have claimed supremacy over the other, some members of the titles’ development teams are approaching the competition with a more levelheaded approach.

Specifically, DICE’s Patrick Bach has said that Battlefield 3 isn’t out to dethrone Modern Warfare 3, but is instead trying to capture its own segment of the FPS market. In Bach’s mind Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield can best be compared to rock groups. Despite working in the same genre, and sharing some similarities, they each will be playing their own songs to try and win over the crowd."

When compared to the Bad Company off-shoot, DICE’s Battlefield 3 is obviously much more gritty and realistic than its tongue-in-cheek, outrageous counterpart. Authenticity in first person shooters nowadays can be a very important factor in creating a much better atmosphere for a player to enjoy. There have been several FPS games in the past few years that focused on creating a realistic simulation while also delivering intense action, but the developers of Battlefield 3 are going about the challenge in a very different way.

Mod community fans will most likely be upset upon hearing the news of Battlefield 3 not including mod tools. Surprising? Maybe, but from all the released footage of the game so far, modding BF3 seems like it would be more than a full time job for all but the most experienced modders. According to the game’s publisher, the technology at work is going to be too much for anyone but the development team to handle

It goes without saying that, if you are planning to give yourself the ultimate Battlefield 3 experience, you’re going to want to pick up the PC version of the game. But, with the game’s release a few months away, there might be some gamers who are wondering if they should give their PC an upgrade in order to even be able to run Battlefield 3.

Thankfully two sets of specs (both minimum and recommended) have been released to give hopeful Battlefield 3 PC players an idea of just how taxing the game might be on their rig.

Despite many players complaining over PunkBuster over the years, it appears that the anti-cheat service will return in Battlefield 3. This is according to Russian Battlefield Community Manager Eugene Olenev, who revealed a few new details in a recent podcast (http://soundcloud.com/kononovigor/bf3comua-interview-with-joe).

According to a translation of the podcast, provided by Battlefieldbc.ru (http://www.battlefieldbc.ru/), in addition to featuring PunkBuster, Olenev also said that hit boxes were “much improved over Bad Company 2″, and that character customizations will be greater than in Bad Company 2. Other than that, not much else was revealed.

We previously mentioned PunkBuster as one of the features we could do without in Battlefield 3 in our “BF3 wish: no PunkBuster (http://bf3blog.com/2011/04/bf3-wish-no-punkbuster/)” article. Now that it’s more or less confirmed, hopefully the anti-cheat software will be better implemented in Battlefield 3 than it was in previous BF games.

This game is going to be great. I am still waiting for the Beta to launch so that my Medal of Honor is served for more than Multiplayer (sad that its multi is BF:BC2 but close quarters) The real Destruction is what makes these games. I love launching a rocket at the house my friend is in and watching it crush him as it falls to the ground. Finally there adding Prone as well. A feature that will help so much in taking cover from being spoted by snipers and tanks.

MAG breaks you down to 8 man squads, so the chatter doesn't get too bad. Now if you get a platoon leader on platoon chat that won't shut up, then it can get annoying..lol!

Well... shit hit the fan so my previous plan of buying a new PC fell through. Life threw me a curve ball and I have to spend roughly 500 bucks to fix my air conditioner... Aint that a kick in the ass? It doesn't appear that getting a new video card that can run BF3 satisfactory and being pushed by a 2.13Ghz Core 2 Duo just is going to cut it. So I've cancelled my PC version pre-order and will be re-pre-ordering for the PS3.

How does a group of people manage to have problems getting people to fit in 100+ man servers?

you haven't played MAG before right?

even though the max total in one match is 256, they still had to add proper grouping or it would have been 256 people running around like mad men or chickens with their heads cut off. They broke the large scale matches down as such:

Company
Platoon
Squad

where each squad had 8 people, each platoon had 4 squads, and each company had 4 platoons, totaling 128 people per team. In the beginning when it came to grouping they allowed you to have up to 8 people in your party (one squad), some say it was limited due to fear of large clans dominating games and discouraging non-clan players from playing. So us being much more than 8 strong at any given time in those days had to use a work around to get more than 8 people in the party. It involved sending out invites to everyone and coordinating via text chat so that all invites were out prior to anyone accepting the invites. It was a little bit of a hassle but it was amazing to have multiple full squads of USMG members. Now they have a clan deploy option so it's no longer an issue

Currently there Isnt one in place but from what Ive read on the battlefield Blog and what devs have posed in forums there will be on on launch maby in the Beta.

Also there is no server brouser, friends list within the game client itself. Everything is handled in the Battlelog.

Battlelog is a very cool way of doing it, you can form a party from your friends list by dragging and dropping them into a "drop zone" then clicking on "join server as group"

Battlelog also tracks your stats allot like http://bfbc2.statsverse.com/stats/ps3/saviger_/ handled BC2 stats.

Good deal!

We recently reported that Battlefield 3 pre-orders in the US had gone live, with Amazon, GameStop, and Best Buy each offering something different. But apparently we forgot there was one more offer: from EA’s Origin service.

The Origin offer not only includes the Back To Karkand expansion pack (like all other pre-orders), but also includes the Physical Warfare pack. But Origin also offers something exclusive that no other retailer has: early access to the Battlefield 3 beta, which kicks off next month, in September.

The beta will also be available to owners of Medal of Honor Limited Edition, who are expected to get early access as well. The beta will go open and will be available to all players, at some point. In order to get early access, you can pre-order Battlefield 3 from Origin here.

http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/08/05/bb.aspx

"Tactical unlocks force you to choose the right loadout for you
That’s the way all of the unlocks and upgrades work. They are specifically designed to be tactical in nature, forcing you to choose loadout based on the map and situation. Do you go for the heavy barrel for your assault rifle? It gives added accuracy for single shots, but at the cost of stronger recoil in burst fire/full auto mode. A standard assault rifle can be modified into a long range accurate weapon or for close quarter, almost SMG-like, combat. For jets, do you go with Maverick ATG missiles to take out tanks or AA missiles to dogfight airborne threats? With your Engineer, do you bring your anti-tank or your anti-air RPG launcher?"

Ohhhh its ganna be sweet!

If'n ya ain't got an Origin account, ya might as well getchya one.

Regardless of how you how you choose to purchase the PC version of Battlefield 3 (http://joystiq.com/game/battlefield-3), it looks like registration to EA's Origin service will be required. The news comes via DICE community manager Daniel Matros, who confirmed a lone gamer's suspicion via Twitter. In other words, all retail and digital copies, regardless of whether they were purchased via Origin or another digital distributor, players must have an origin membership.

It's not too surprising, given EA's recent trends. The company doesn't host its games on Xbox Live or PSN servers, instead requiring players to register for a separate EA account. The company also recently revealed that Battlefield 3 will not be offered via Steam (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/06/battlefield-3-wont-be-sold-on-steam-ea-claims-service-restric/), though it claims this is due to "restrictive terms" on Valve's part.SOURCE: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/12/retail-copies-of-battlefield-3-will-also-require-origin/

In case you can't get enough Battlefield, you'll be able to take it with you.

GamesCom (http://bf3blog.com/tag/gamescom/) will be kicking off very soon, and EA has released a list of games they’ll be showcasing, which of course includes Battlefield 3 — they got a real jet (http://bf3blog.com/2011/08/ea-showing-off-real-jet-at-battlefield-3-gamescom-booth/) for that purpose. But EA, more specifically, EA Mobile, will be showcasing the mobile version of the game. Called Battlefield 3: Aftershock, the mobile version, which will be available on Apple’s iOS based devices, will be shown behind closed doors at GamesCom to selected members of the press.

Back in May, EA officially revealed that a mobile version of Battlefield 3 (http://bf3blog.com/2011/05/battlefield-3-getting-mobile-version/) will be released, and the following month, they confirmed that it was coming to iOS devices (http://bf3blog.com/2011/06/battlefield-3-coming-to-apples-ios-devices/) (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad). We still don’t know anything about the mobile version and how it will look, but hopefully we’ll find out more at GamesCom. Battlefield 3 Aftershock is slated for release during the same time as the regular version, October 25, 2011.

Coop mode confirmed
Ign.com

Need another reason to get excited for Battlefield 3? Co-op mode confirmed. EA announced the addition today at Gamescom with an onstage demo of two players working their way through a dark compound that led into the street. Ground and air vehicles are confirmed for the mode and so is "tight urban warfare." Look for a revival system and some ridiculous cursing and screaming from the in-game characters when the game ships this October.

The part shown during a demo at EA's Gamescom press conference featured two players weaving their way through dense urban streets at night. The use of teamwork to coordinate when to attack seemed to be important to success, as well as using tools like thermal imaging to get a better view of the conflict zone and reviving when necessary.

The co-op mode will include missions that EA claims will tie into the main single-player story, and will be playable online with a friend.

Also shown was what most Battlefield fans have been waiting for, wide-open multiplayer featuring jet combat. The planes streaked through the sky firing missiles at each other as tanks rolled across the terrain of huge maps. When piloting a vehicle, it'll be possible to retreat to safety so the machine automatically replenishes armor. Battlefield 3 will feature nine multiplayer maps and include Rush and Conquest modes, as well as a Team Death Match alternative, and can accommodate up to 24 players in a match on console, 64 on PC.

In simi and with the ACOG/heavy barrel, the M16-A4 had enough accuracy to be used as a light sniper weapon with 3-4 rounds tacking down a target at distance. I had fun with it.

was very useful, you can pick off targets at distance. Switch to Burst/Auto and run in and help take the objective.

Eight pages worth of threads and this game is still a couple of months away from being released. I don't remember the clan being as jacked for a game since MAG was coming out, right about the time the clan was standing up.

There’s no doubt that the upcoming release of Battlefield 3 will be one of the largest this year. Not only will it be sporting some of the most advanced graphics in the industry, but it promises to expand on the series’ already successful gameplay. With so many big releases on their way in the coming months, it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd and in this respect, Electronic Arts are pushing their upcoming title as hard as they can.

This is not to say that the game has not received its share of controversy though. Much of this stems from the required use of EA’s Origin service which will effectively limit players to a single account in-game. In addition to this, there is also the hot topic regarding the differences between Battlefield 3‘s console and PC versions. It looks as if more fuel is about to be added to the aforementioned fire, though this time PC gamers are the ones who will feel the burn.

A lot of movie fanatics will remember the “This is my rifle…” speech from Full Metal Jacket, and it’s true. A soldier is as good as the tools he has and Battlefield 3 will have plenty of weapons, vehicles and gear to compliment each particular soldier’s tastes. Don’t think there’s something for you? You may have to reexamine that stance after reading the very extensive list of confirmed Battlefield 3 weapons, equipment and vehicles below.

There’s no denying that Battlefield 3 is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of the year. Not only has the series remained strong over the years, but the newest iteration promises to push the series even further both in terms of graphics and gameplay. Despite the enormous amount of hype surrounding the upcoming title though, yet another recent move by EA may leave gamers scratching their heads.

While Modern Warfare 3 will likely sell the most first person shooter copies during the upcoming Holiday season, gamers no doubt enjoy picking-apart every Battlefield 3 detail that comes through the pipeline. Whether you’re a Call of Duty die-hard, an ardent supporter of the Battlefield franchise, or just a fan of first person shooters (who doesn’t bother with title wars), there’s no doubt been a lot of information coming out of DICE to discuss.

Now, one week after the developer unveiled the Battlefield 3 pre-order bonuses, DICE has now revealed the rewards and unlocks that will be awarded to players as they climb the online multiplayer ranks. In addition, an early (and unofficial) report suggests that the Battlefield point system will see some substantial tweaks in the third installment.

The previews of Battlefield 3 thus far have been nothing short of impressive. Heavy on detail and environmental features, Battlefield 3’s previews are gorgeous – but the majority of the previews have been PC only.

Anybody still playing this. Picked it back up today after I got a little excited about 3 coming out. Must still be pretty popular since the used copy still cost $30.

are you talking Battlefield 2, the older PC game or do you mean Battlefield: Bad Company 2?

just to clarify, Battlefield 2 =/= Battlefield: Bad Company 2

1385 =/= 1386

lol furthermore, if there may be confusion, the upcoming Battlefield 3 is the sequel to Battlefield 2, not bad company 2. So in theory we could see a Battlefield: Bad Company 3 some time in the future as well that picks up the bad company storyline

Havok and I were on it last night 'til about 3:30 a.m. this morning, and Vet and I were playing just about a half-hour ago. I played one quick round with Jack yesterday as well. It's been fun to revisit and we had a blast.

If you guys see me playing, just shoot a PM and I'll send a squad invite. I'd also appreciate it if anyone wants to play some Onslaught mode as well.

I haven't purchased Onslaught yet, but was going to. I know Lady was asking me about it, so we might be able to get her also.

Hi all! Having just come back from a great gamescom (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/gamescom11/) show in Germany, here’s your chance to learn all about the co-op campaign in Battlefield 3 (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/battlefield-3/) that we showed off on PS3. We designed co-op to be the perfect blend between the strong narrative from single player and the open-ended action from multiplayer. We are fusing the replayability of multiplayer with a pick up-and-play mentality to create a totally new flavor of Battlefield.

Co-op follows the same philosophy as our award-winning multiplayer game mechanics. Teamwork is practically never forced upon you, but working together will make things much easier and — more importantly — lead to victory.

For the most part, the missions in the co-op campaign are asymmetric. This means that one mission can have you piloting a helicopter while your friend is the gunner, for example. Other situations have one player disarming a bomb and the other one defending him. Or (as you could see in our press conference playthrough at gamescom) you can do tandem kills to avoid detection. There are also other mechanics requiring teamwork, such as spotting enemies to make large firefights easier, or the essential concept of reviving one another to avoid ending up at the game over screen.

The co-op missions in Battlefield 3 (http://us.playstation.com/games-and-media/games/battlefield-3-ps3.html) all take place in the same world as the single-player campaign, and follow a unique series of events that lead up to an explosive finish. Players in co-op will take the role of soldiers that are not tied to any one particular branch of the Armed Forces. This is an intentional design decision to allow for a vast variety in gameplay in the different co-op missions.

Extracting Hamid El Zakir

At gamescom 2011, we ran Battlefield 3 (http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3) in co-op for the first time, with the mission Exfiltration on 10 PlayStation 3 stations. During the five days of the show, thousands of fans and journalists got hands-on time with Exfiltration. The mission revolves around a defecting informant, El Zakir, that you and your co-op friend need to escort to safety. The mission starts outside the building where El Zakir resides. You need to move in, remove any opposition, and extract the target. If you can make it that far without raising a single alarm, there’s a little bonus in it for you.

Part two of Exfiltration has you clearing a path for your convoy so you can reach the outskirts of the city, before entering two vehicles and manning the top-mounted machine guns to provide some assistance. There’s much more to the mission, but that gives you an idea of what to expect.

Lend a Helping Hand

To survive through the co-op missions, you’ll need to stay close to your buddy. If he goes down, lend a helping hand with the new co-op “Man down!” mechanic, that lets you revive him in the heat of battle. While being down, you can still use your secondary weapon to defend yourself, while slowly crawling to a safer spot where your friend can help you without getting shot. If both of you go down, it’s game over.

You fight together. You die together. And you score together. After having cleared a co-op mission with your friend, your total combined score will be displayed via Battlelog, our suite of free social features that connect all Battlefield 3 players. Missions are designed to be shorter than single-player missions, so you can easily do multiple rounds in an evening to try and beat your friends’ high score. The best score of your friend will be displayed for each mission, so you know what to aim for.

Expect to encounter high difficulty: We are definitely going for a tough challenge in all missions. Also, since competitive players will likely try each mission several times, all of the co-op missions contain randomized elements to keep every playthrough fresh. Clearing the co-op missions not only gives you scores and bragging rights – it also has benefits for your multiplayer career. There are a number of weapons that you can unlock in co-op and take with you to the regular multiplayer modes. These unlocks are based on your combined scores accumulated throughout the co-op campaign.

We hope you enjoyed this first look at Exfiltration. It was very rewarding meeting our fans at gamescom, and we hope you stay tuned for more blog posts here at the PlayStation.Blog as we move ever closer to launch. And don’t forget there’s an upcoming Open Beta in September!

As revealed a couple months ago, the Physical Warfare pack is the bonus gamers will receive when they pre-order Battlefield 3 at select retailers. The pack contains new weapons and attachments for players to use in the game’s online multiplayer. After watching the trailer, gamers planning on getting Battlefield 3 may wish to consider pre-ordering, as the the Physical Warfare pack will definitely help give players an advantage.

War is never good. In war, terrible things happen to good people and innocent lives are unjustly taken. When it comes to developing an authentic war simulator, how then do you capture that harsh reality… or do you simply avoid it all together?

When playing a video game in the safety and comfort of your home, using digital recreations of real-world weaponry to lay waste to perceived enemies, it becomes easy to do unrealistic things, make unnatural decisions. In Grand Theft Auto, players kill police officers and steal their cars because it’s fun. In first person shooters, if civilians are around, some will shoot them to be “naughty” and this is something DICE does not want to be a part of Battlefield 3

Yea, like the opening mission in MW2, "No Russian" I wasn't a big fan of gunning down innocent civilians in an airport.
