I think that's taking it a bit far. CoD will likely always be the run and gun to BF's tactical, but there are some pretty solid improvements. Not the least of which is the updated perk system to reward the non k/d campy bitches.

Last night we posted an image of a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 that a reader had purchased in a Tampa, Florida Kmart. Then it started popping up on eBay and Craigslist. Then videos from the game starting popping up. How was everyone getting copies of a game that wasn't supposed to go on sale until next week? Kmart.

A helpful reader and Kmart employee explains to us what happened and how you may be able to get your very own early copy of the game if you act quickly.
Turns out that the shipments of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sent out to Kmart came in boxes that said to put the game out immediately. Typically when stores get games early they're marked with the date the games are meant to hit shelves. So in this case those boxes should have said to put the games out on Nov. 8.

Our reader tells us that since he's a gamer, and coincidentally has no spending cash right now, he's going to hold his copies until the official release date. But, he adds, if the store in your area has clueless, or cash ready electronics employees there's a good chance that the game will be on the shelves and ready to be purchased.

None of the Kmarts in my area have opened yet, so I haven't been able to see how many are selling the game early. We'll be checking on that later today. It also might be worth checking in with other big retail chains to see if they had the same shipments with the wrong dates on them.

I'd assume that this is going to be rectified very quickly, so if you want a chance at an early copy you might want to go shopping first thing this morning.

We've reached out to Kmart and Activision for comment and will update when we hear back.

A store breaking street date on highly anticipated titles is not a new thing. It’s happened before, and it will happen again. Just the other day, Kmart broke street on Modern Warfare 3. Joystiq reported finding several copies for sale on ebay, but the availability of said games varied based on how quickly ebay was able to take the sale down. There are probably more than a few people who picked up a copy of MW3 and didn’t try to sell it, and those people might be out of luck if Activision and Microsoft find out.

Though there was originally word from Stephen Toulouse, XBL’s director of policy and enforcement, that retail copies, even if they were bought pre-street date, would be fine to play on Xbox Live. Of course, just a few hours later, Toulouse recanted that statement after he checked with Activision. Pre-release Modern Warfare 3 play is not okay, according to the tweet, and players found online with the game early face the chance that their account could be impacted. The penalty could be a light banning from the game and/or Xbox Live, and for diehards that should be reason enough to wait until Monday at midnight to get their Call of Duty on.

If you somehow managed (by hook or by crook) to get a copy of Modern Warfare and are trying to play it online via Xbox Live, you'll be treated to a ban. The game officially launches November 8, but apparently Microsoft has noticed that some Xbox Live users have the game and are trying to play it online. Those people are having their accounts banned.

Director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox Live Stephen Tolouse said via Twitter that playing a legitimately obtained copy of the game online "would be fine," but later backtracked. His first Twitter post on the subject read:

"For those asking about MW3 pre-release play: If your copy is legit and obtained legitly, have fun. It's a great game."

But later he clarified his earlier statement, saying:

"clarification: dblchk'd with Activision. Mw3 pre-release play not authorized. So pls be patient. Playing early may impact your account!"

Yesterday US retailer Kmart broke the "street date" and began selling copies of the game early "due to a shipping error." Videos of the game's campaign have also begun showing up all over the Internet, including a controversial scene that we won't describe here so that we're not accused of spoiling the campaign. Some are calling it the "No Russian" scene of Modern Warfare 3.

I beleive it. EA/DICE have a damn good game with the BF series, but the CoD does seem to be a powerhouse. We'll see though.



War is hell. With the world's two biggest game publishers unleashing their biggest weapons this month, the fight for online dominance will be brutal. Battlefield 3 released on Tuesday, October 25 and already has tough opposition, even though Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is still days away. Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb revealed the Xbox Live weekly activity charts yesterday, with Battlefield 3 making its debut at number 3.

With the major emphasis put on online play (and the amount of praise offered to it by reviewers), Battlefield 3 failing to snag the top spot has to sting a little for EA and DICE. Worse still is the fact that the two games ranking higher than Battlefield 3 are both from the Call of Duty franchise, with Black Ops snagging the top spot and Modern Warfare 2 taking second place. With just one more week of time on the online activity charts before Modern Warfare 3 arrives, it should be interesting to see if EA's shooter can move any further up the rankings with players segueing from single-player and more customers buying Battlefield 3 based on word of mouth.

PC gamers, prepare for a letdown. You'll be able to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 when it arrives next Tuesday just like your console brethren, but you won't be able to take full advantage of the Call of Duty Elite stat-tracker/social network at launch, Beachhead Studios' Chacko Sonny confirms to Activision's Dan Amrich.

While Sonny confirms that "we're going to re-open Elite for everyone... any day now," with access limited to Black Ops playercards until MW3's launch, the actual functionality won't be integrated into the game's PC release on day one. The problem, according to Sonny, is keeping everyone on even footing.


"We’re as committed as ever to the PC, but the need to ensure a safe PC environment is greater than ever," Sonny said. "It’s really extensive. We need more time to get there, so Elite on PC will not launch on Day 1. We’re working our butts off to make it happen, but we won’t release it until we know that PC gamers can enjoy Elite as it’s meant to be."

"The issue here is that the PC is an insecure platform. Without a central, trusted resource for stats, a lot of our competition features become unfair," he added. "We can’t give away prizes when people can easily cheat their stats. Leaderboards are less fun when a lot of the users are there unfairly."

The competition side of Elite is going to be an important thing to watch. Players tend to get very creative in finding ways to cheat; it's not a huge deal when you're simply boosting your multiplayer level progress, but when those stats ALSO tie in with the possibility of winning a Jeep or an expensive trip, the need for a secure framework becomes very important. Elite is one of the more amibitious new game-related projects out there right now, so it's no surprise to see Beachhead pushing to get things right.

There's no timeframe for the PC launch just yet. The official line for now from Sonny is that "It will be ready when it's ready."

This is a very excusable reason for ELITE's delay on PC. With all the hacking and random acts of glitching that plagues the PC I can see why they'd want to delay it till they feel it absolutely ready.

$1.1 billion, damn. Even with Elite for PC being messed up it's still an amazing amount of money.



According to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, Activision's Modern Warfare 3 will sell ten percent more copies than Call of Duty Black Ops. He estimates that the game will rake in $1.1 billion in its first six weeks on store shelves. Pachter also predicts that the Call of Duty Elite premium service could pull in up to 4 million subscribers by the end of the year. Of course, he probably didn't know at the time that it wouldn't be available for PC users. That may throw a wrench into the gears of his calculation machine.

Call of Duty: Black Ops generated right around $650 million in its first five days of release, while Modern Warfare 2 generated right around $550 million.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases next Tuesday, November 8.

Yeah, I've got to say that CoD has a much more run and gun, easy to be good feel to it. I don't even compare them as competitors because CoD satisfies my need to log on, kill some bitches real quick (and actually compile some decent stats), and then get back to whatever I was doing. BF3 requires a lot more than just that, and it's hard to be good on your own. Plus, on the PC side of things, if you think the BF* titles have had launch issues, I can assure you they were nothing like the the debacle that was the BO PC release. Complete waste of money on my part.

Hey EA, you might want to patch Battlefield 3, because there's apparently a game-breaking exploit. According to YouTube user DarkSydeGeoff, this is it. Using the exploit, detailed in the above video, players can get over 100,000 XP per game.
Here's how the exploit works: Join a "Hardcore" game with a buddy on the same squad. Then, both chose the Engineer, and one of you needs to select the robot. The other uses the repair kit. Either you or your buddy shoots the robot, and then the one with the repair kit fixes, or heals, the robot.
And that's it! In the video, DarkSydeGeoff got 400 XP in under ten seconds with the exploit, which Kotaku has yet to test.
No doubt EA is going to patch this—as EA should. But when?

Its as I feared, COD has officially hit the end for me. The Machinima review was positive but let's be realistic, when is it not for them and COD (Kind of like any IGN/COD review).

Looks like I made a good decision in banking my money to Skyrim. I'll be keeping BF3 as my primary FPS.

Just finished the campaign. Pretty good, all the loose ends get tied up. Some mild dissappointments here and there but overall a hell of a lot better than Battlefield 3's campaign. And that's where the majority of the changes and upgrades lie, in tge MP. But then again, aside from the obvious engine upgrades, you can say the same about BF3.....only without the characters you already love. Fuck Yuri, give me back Soap.

As for the MP changes themselves.......I like so far. You don't get the tactical teamplay, but the perks are fun, the killstreak rewards are intetesting, and the pre-game ui blows BF3 out of the water. Plus, I can leave in between matches.

Just to point out for fairness, the "hacking" is just as prevalent in BF3. As is the camping and exploitive gameplay. Just ask anyone who's come up against a god-moder. It's just easier to prove and get a player smacked in mw3.

It seems faster, because a lot of the more voted on maps are smaller, and even the larger maps have a lot cover. I've seen snipers used effectively in a couple maps, and very effectively in some of the objective based gametypes.

And the reason there are so many UAV's is because there are so many ways to get them. You're looking for the blind eye and assassin perks.

If there’s one thing people love doing more than playing Call of Duty, it’s finding glitches in the game to help them win. It takes a very devoted person to scour multiplayer maps in hopes of finding the one spot where they can pick off enemies at will without any fear of retaliation. It takes another type of person half that long to do it by exploiting a glitch. Fortunately, when it comes to ratting out offending players online, snitches don’t have to worry about getting stitches, and can report cheaters with ease to Infinity Ward. Such has been the case over the last few weeks, as according to Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling, the developer has banned more than 1600 Modern Warfare 3 cheaters already, with the intention of dropping the hammer on even more.

Of course, reporting someone isn’t just to get one specific player removed from the game. It also helps the developer find the glitches in question so they’re able to apply fixes. Bowling’s Twitter has been a constant stream of updates on the bannings and fixes Infinity Ward is working on, and he assures players that they will “continue to address and update” further patches. It's a glitch. Which makes having it in your clan tag exploiting a glitch.

I never said it was hacking. You don't need to hack to find the spot where you can jump and spin and fall inside a box either. It's a glitch in the systen.

I am just old fashioned, I get off on shooting at other people to gain my XP..........lol. However it doest bother me that they boost like that, its not like its a map glitch where they cant be seen and they can kill you and not be killed in return. I agree, although its no different than buddy shooting in MW2 for a nuke and takes away from players who are actually playing the game the correct way. You think you have a butt kicking round only to find out someone without any kills has out scored you.

u gotta go to that part where it shows u the cards, and then drag the cards u want to the appropriate box and the cards u have to trade to the appropriate box and then click submit or whatever it was to click under those boxes.

They're going to find out if you've been naughty or nice. Infinity Ward, that is. The company is apparently giving away 13.5 YEAR bans for those caught doing something bad in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The bans last 5,000 days, and Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling confirmed that they're serious with these decade-long bans, saying that they're essentially a permanent ban for those caught cheating, boosting, or doing anything malicious, really.

So here's a PSA: be nice whether you're the one getting shot in the head, or shooting someone else in the head. Personally I wouldn't mind giving out some 13.5 year bans for some of the jerks that I've encountered while playing first person shooters online. That hilarious trash talk could get you in to a lot of trouble, you little cheater, you.

Moments ago, X-Play handed out its "Best Multiplayer Game" award for 2011 to Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. During the acceptance speech, Infinity Ward's creative strategist, Robert Bowling, revealed that player-created game modes will soon be added to MW3's multiplayer.

"Since we have such advanced private match options, we've been noticing a lot of user-created game modes, that in the coming weeks, we're going to be adding to the public playlists in multiplayer," Bowling said. "We're going to be adding some in for the holiday, brand new modes that the users created, that we adapted, made more polished, and are putting into the game," he added.

The first is now live. Under community playlist is a game called drop zone. Its basically a king of the hill game type with LOTS of airdrops. If your team holds the spot you get crates and constant xp. I played two of these matches before getting off and I highly advise using blast shield as explosions are non stop. Also your killstreaks are disabled so use whatever weopons/perks that will help you hold it down or kill as many enemies at once as possible. Watch out for falling crates and have fun.

Even the Kuwaitis here are quick scoping like MOFO's. They have taken it to the extreme. I run and gun with a SMG but they run and gun with any sniper rifle and they get one shot off and I am done even when I get a bead on them first.
